Thread: ID Enhancements...

Without other players, an ID would have nothing to do at all. so IDs do in fact depend greatly on other professions.

So why is it that every other profession in the game now depend on ID, while ID depends on none?
Depending on otherplayers is not quite the same as depending onother specific professions.Everyone now HAS to go to an ID every timetheyneed to migrate stats (new armor, profession, whatever),an ID doesn't HAVE to interact with anyone except the customer in order to do her/his job.
Anyhow, this was not agood way to goabout it, there are plenty of ways to enhance ID without nerfingeveryone else.
Hot-wired ID cards...
Here's an idea for an enhancement that promotes interdependence among two of the 'neglected' professions, Image Designer and Smuggler:
-- Allow Smuggler's to create ID cards with fake identities
-- After presenting this card to an Image Designer, the Image Designer temporarily alters your appearance to match the image on the card
-- Benefits of using the ID card could bechanging from Overt to Covert quicker, decrease chances of being scanned or having contraband found, temporarily change your faction rating with other factions (getting in to Jabba's cantina for example).
-- The more skilled the Smuggler and the Image Designer, the more effective the result.
What do you think?

Sounds good....
"....decrease chances of being scanned or having contraband ..."
The Empire is too weak to be of any real concern in SWG(ie. Storm troopers arevery easy to kill, no AT-ST, no AT-AT, no real sense that the Empire is strong, menancing,or oppressive... nor that it is controlled by the DarkLord Darth Vader.) Just a few very weak and dumb storm troopers spawn once in a blue moon.. and then they're gone a few minutes later. .![]()

The stat-changes are a big issue, and we did not announce them beforehand. We chose not to announce because we anticipated a large, initial backlash, but ultimately felt that it was the best thing for the game. Runesabre's vision of your profession includes one absolutely critical interdependence with all other professions. Most people do not do frequent changes. We don't think you will be overloaded with requests. And you will provide a very valuable service far faster than it could have been done before!

I am not an ID ...
Allow the ID's to do it faster ... but taking away the ability to do it yourself is one of the worst ideas you guys have every promoted.
It's bad enough trying to find somebody to 'train' you in something, at least there are NPC's to do that ... but hunting down an ID when you want your stats changed?
You talk about wanting to listen to the community yet right here ... in black and white you say you "don't want" to listen to the community.
You just went down a notch Dev team ...you just ruined your rep ... you admit to not telling the community before hand cause you just didn't want to hear it. Shame on you Devs.
Oops, first try went awry.

I'm going to try and answer, I'm notsaying I agree or disagreewith them just what I think their reasoning was
Why???? ( not in any order )
- Because it was easy
Worst possible reason to make a change.
- The most bang for the dev time buck (16 items that ALL species can use)
Understandable reasoning even though those 16 itemsdon't seem to be liked by many people
- The Art team really wanted to use particle effects
Bully for them. Perhaps they could've used those effects on something the community actually wanted?
- Repeat bussiness for IDers
Not if most people hate the holo-emotes. It's been said before and I agree, these emotes will be used for maybe a week then forgotten (and loathed)
- to give IDer more to do
With themselves?
- Fun to use and see
Once, maybe twice?
- Will not be used often enough to be emersion breaking or too non-SW to hurt
Then why even waste time on adding them? It seems rather silly to me for the Devs to spend a lot of time on something hardly anyone will use.
- Can't add the efect to droids at this time because they just got a major 3 part revamp and other profession would be pissed if they got more
Can't argue with this one.
- To test market Particle effect on a small number of playersprofession first
Couldn't they have simply done this on Test Center instead of wasting you IDs' time?

ID's... let's talk about your mini-publish...
I saw some amazing things on TC today, and the new system still is a bit buggy (just a bit ;-)). A dude was running around with punk blue hair. There were some hot-pink dancers. Inferno turned into a beautiful, rich,two-toned red Twilek (well, she was always beautiful). Some of the changes you will be able to make on players are radical, and I think you are going to be very pleased with the varieties that you can accomplish.
Whats wrong with punk blue hair? I hope you keep that in.. we in real life can do that NOW...
Alot of dev time went into the secure transaction UI, where you and your customer can observe your work and agree on a price. (And be sure to get paid!). I think this, coupled with the ranges of changes (heh) that you will be able to make, will transform your profession dramatically for the better.
Good, ID has always needed a secure payment system.. some people wont trust someone not to run off with their money and wont want to pay up front.. ID's then get crappy tips afterwards.
Inderdependance is not garnered by FORCING people to interact. When you FORCE people, with NO options, they make their own options.. usually to the detrement of the overall goal... I see people swearing they will never use an ID again as a result of this slap in the face.
We don't think you will be overloaded with requests.
And we ALL know how well you predicted what would happen with the Holocron system, right?
And you will provide a very valuable service far faster than it could have been done before!
THAT is how you should think of it.. providing an EXPRESS service. Leave the old system in, heck DOUBLE the time it takes, but give me the CHOICE to choose first class express or coach quality speed. CHOICE. You cannot legislate fun.. forcing people, against their wills, will NOT improve the gameplay, and will only make things worse.. especially as you now have established a precedant in your minds that its allright to do things "for our own good" irregardless of our desires.
Why cant you just let us have fun?
I think the emotes will be fun in certain situations as well. (C'mon... a kitty!!) Tatoos and scars, as you are aware, fell outside of our tech budget for this round.
Um, yeah.. floating skull above my head and pink kitties.. I suppose there can be reasons.. I also understand the timeframe to develop tattoos, scars, etc can be prohibative.. but the removal of choice is like slapping us in the face and saying "ooooh pretty shiny thing over here, ignore us while we cut off one of your arms..."
The dev process with regards to professions works like this: We ask what you would like, mix it with what we as dev's think is right and good for the game, adjust things to meet resource availability and schedules, monitor the boards for strong ideas, garner feedback on areas we are ambiguous about, and ultimately put out the best that we can.
If you garner feedback, which in this case you are doing AFTER the fact, why dont you LISTEN to that feedback? So far out of all the posts I have read in several threads on this topic I have seen a whole two that are in favor of it as the intended implementation sits..
Fine, if this is how you guys play the game I want you to take away lightsabers from Jedi so that the bounty hunters get an improvement.. its only fair.. heck.. take armor away from everyone so that the combat classes are improved.. take colorization of clothing away because I wear white clothes.. and dont look snazzy compared to those hot pink pants some wear...
Generate fun by ADDING things, not by taking them away..
Bottom line is this... we work with your coorespondents closely (Thanks SO MUCH Kwee!!!) to best meet all our design and development goals. We have our long-term vision of the game as well that we believe is the right thing, and we want to mix that as much as we can with what you
Why dont you outline this mythical long-term vision to us? Maybe we can get used to an idea ahead of time.. when you suckerpunch us like this, KNOWING that it will not be well accepted you are just saying that you dont really care about our views, just our money.. we are nothing but a paycheck to you..
Well I hate to tell you this, but when the person who gives me MY paycheck tells me to do something, I tend to do it.. otherwise I STOP getting that paycheck..
We think you will be happy too. You have alot of proponents in our studio, and at Lucas, and we have put some love into your profession. I ask that you try out the changes, and evaluate for yourself.
All I can do at this point is shake my head in disgust and disbelief at this. The few good things we got from the revamp do not make up for the utter disregard of our wants and lack of communication on the part of the development team. This is one of the saddest days of my long time Image Design career.

BIG FRICKEN UNDERSTAMENT THERE, YA JERKY!!!!!!!!

I don't see the issue with stat migration. I mean honestly, how often do people change their stats? On top of that, why wouldn't it be an ID related function?
It's not "fun". It's just one more "pain in the butt" thing you have to do.
It's also a time sink ... I don't change my stats very often .. generally only after new armour to be able to put back into stats something I took out to wear the armour unbuffed.
Now after getting the armour (or throwing away X pieces of effectiveness sliced armour) I got to go find an ID to move my stats up? Yea right.
They put this in and I will boycott ID services all together.
And it's the sneaky "psuedo stealth-nerf" way they went about it that really grates.
I don't think they can ever honestly say they care about what the community wants / thinks after making the statment: "We didn't tel anybody before hand cause we knew it would cause a backlash" ... or whatever the exact words were. That statement is almost worse then the actual change.
At least the Dev's are honest about their disregard for the community. I used to stand up for the Dev's ... sorry ... No more.
