Great post Kwee! I'm glad to see you are the correspondant now. I retired from Image Designer a couple months ago but mainly it was because I wanted to use the skill points to try out other professions. I hope you guys get all these features!

Too bad Lucasarts turned down species change. I'm so sick of being human but at the same time I don't want delete my character and lose my act 1 and 2 badges. I've started characters on other servers but its not the same playing without my friends . . .Now I'm rambling.

EDIT: Oh, this is Vincen Anders from Starsider, former MID (non-Holo, of course)

One idea that I wasAMAZED didn't go in at launch is the ability for Image Designers to make someone covert by giving them a temporary makeover (of appearance, not name), avoiding the 1 hour timer, or perhaps shortening it quite a bit. There would be problems with griefing if not done right, but I think this would be a popular skill for many non-griefing purposes.

Great write up!

I was master image designer for a day, you all know why...lol Anyway I was thinking it would be nice to for the ID to be able to add temp skill mods to players. Some thing like being able to get better jobs for 15mins or maybe less agro vs NPCs. We all know you have to dress for sucess...lol Stuff like that would make alot more interesting.

As for the Devs not want to add another buffing class, you just did a complete redign on chef now it buffs more than ever. I would think adding skill mod buffing for image design would fit into a trend with dancer/musician and chef. More over I think the Players would actualy enjoy this kind of thing.

I think it would a whole another level of enjoy ment the game. I think there is a big need for make each profession needed and 'useable' by the Player pop.

If this has already been said then please ignore this post. How about tieing it into the crackdown at some point. Perhaps if players changed their looks they could recieve a bonus to avoiding detection as akin to a novice smuggler. Perhaps another way could be to increase the rate of detection as the Imperials begin to recognize long time offender's faces. So each time you get caught it increases the chance of it happening again. This could be corrected by altering your appearence witht eh help of a Image Designer.

They should have put the colorization of vehicles with Image designer. Also customizing pet colors should be put with image designers

House decorations craftables ---> IMage designer

Paintings ---> Image designer

etc etc

just a thought, but alot of people really want to change there character type. like wookie to human. so, why not make a few items craftable by a master BE and a item crafted by a master image designer, using rare ingredients that could combine to change a chacters race?

I know its drastic, but

1. ID's would get lots of cash for this service.
2 BE's would get a high level item to sell to ID's

basically think about it.

its human genetic minupulation and zabrack and wookie etc.

What do u all think.

Image design should have a way to

/maskfaction - this would be a crafted item that is atimed based enhancement based on the ID's skill in the profession. It it a covert or nutral enhancment only (does not work on overt players) It should also has a save vs detection much like mask scent would. It can make you appear nutral imperial or rebel. NPC's would see the rank of the person as the rank the player isin their actual faction. IE a rebal LT would seem to be an imperial LT. Recruters however would automaticly break the mask if conversed with.

*edit*

Risk VS Rewards:

/maskfaction effectivly would make you a spy, when mask is broken by an opposing factionit is an automatic TEF. Nutrals would not get TEF since there is no opposing faction.

Masking nutral would be fairly easy to maintain with little risks of mask breaking.

Masking as an opposing faction member would be more difficult and should only be attempted by using high quality kits and or having an ID placethe mask on you.

*ID mask bonus* If the mask is manually applied by a ID the duration and effectivness of the mask would be increased.

People should get fat from eating, and age or lose weight/muscle from too much spice (ever see a young looking, athletic junkie? Not often...lol) Another option would be dirt. People get dirty, an go to an ID for a bath. I know this one will cause some crude jokes, but I'm familiar with game engines somewhat, and doing hair messing up, etc would be rather complicated to impliment, and would require dozens of models for each hairdo. SO, best option would be a dirty texture. Also, some alterations (makeup) should be termporary. ANYONE should be allowed tohave eyeshadow and lip color, male or female (and not just for the drag queens, what about punks and goths?) but it should be removed from character creation, and should require an ID to set it, it would last fora fewdays or whatever, then would need to be touched up. One big problem solved. after all folks aren't born with lipstick on, or eyeshadow, and it does fade over time.

No I don't have a freakin sig. Just make something up and pretend it's here man. woman. umm...Whatever.

I've always wanted people to not only get wounded from combat, but get scars to go along with those wounds.

Scars that an image designer could then remove.

From a broader post I made a few days ago:

Give IDs the ability to do name changes:
Yes, I understand that this would be a way to avoid harrassment, but I think you could put enough safeguards in to avoid it. And I think the removal of permadeath will mean that Jedis will need to be able to change their names along with their looks every once in a while. My suggested limitations would be that a name change doesn’t take effect until 48 hours after the ‘surgery’ is done and that it can only be done for a given character once every 30 days.

The name Image Designer had such MARVELOUS potential and all they got to be was an extension of the avatar creation system. I know that players have been begging for this ability in MMOs for years, but it isn’t enough to base a profession on. A person’s “image” is SO much more than their looks (ask some of the less attractive movie stars and politicians). An Image Designer could be anything from a master publicist to someone that helps you become just another face in the crowd and disappear for a while. The most obvious implication would be buffers, but there are already enough professions that buff much better than what was supposed to be the primary buffing profession: chefs.

So, I strongly suggest putting some thought into how you can make this a more fun and useful profession, preferably by extending it beyond superficial looks. In the meantime, name changes is a good start. The idea of forcing someone into ugliness just so that you can make a profession usefulness will do nothing but enrage the vast majority of your userbase. Give IDs something that is needed in the game to do, don't break something in the game just to justify the existence of a poorly thought-out profession.

The name change while not a bad idea could not be a perm thing. It should also be implimented as part of the ID /maskfaction option of another one /maskidentity. It would need checks and chances of becoming unmasked. But this would only really be usefull for jedi.

SWG-Runesabre,

Thanks for taking the time to post, I would recommend that you read the responces to

Thunderheart's "Image Designers: 10 Answers" post.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=image_designer&message.id=8638

I'm very happy to hear you say "I would like to not simply turn you into yet another buff or crafting class". Increasing the non-character creation content is IDers main wish, follow by an PC city building for IDers. Tempary ID are high on the wish list, rether they be wild hair dos and body paintsfor parties, or disguises with a faction hiding function.

On crafting for IDers your right IDers would not like to become a full crafting class, a little simple crafting would be very nice. Little stuff that would act like little ads to being in customers.

All should be temporary and have 12-20 uses (bonus uses base on quality of one of theresouces)

for theladies

lipstick

eyeshadow

Hair ribbons (for female wookies and bothans, because they can't uselipstick and eyeshadow )

for theguys

Face Paint in three styles(football/sport, indain war paint, and combat camouflage) < rename to be more star warish)

Again thanks for your time.

Very nice State of the Profession write-up, Kwee.

The idea someone posted about eating and using spices causing alterations to one's current look is an interestingidea for creating demand for your servicesif applied in a way so as not to be too obtrusive.

Although I'm not crazy about the idea on junkies being our main customer base, I would suggest that skin and hair color could turn increasingly grey with the use of spice and IDers would have an color reset skill. and IF you wanted to add function to it have stormtroopers be more likely to bother toons with the junky look.

*edit* Also to cut down on the tons of tells we would get from this, as part of an ID building if we got hot-tubs or steam-rooms that player could use to reset their wieght or to detoxify from spice use I may like the idea.
