Here's a hint. To aleviate the pressure of being guilted into lowering your prices, don't set a price. I can tell you this much, I make money more by saying "I don't set a price, you give however much you feel is fair without going beyond your budget." This makes people feel that your are looking out for them and not just trying to be nice. After all, as an ID, what are you losing out on? You spend nothing to master the profession except time. If you have a house, you can make the monthly maintenance in an hour. So to me, setting a price is showing greed and most people won't remember you unless you were really good at giving them exactly what they were looking for when they didn't even know what they wanted. Also, it's ok to have a bit of an attitude, as long as you don't go too far. Unless they push you, people will play on this and have fun with it and you'll get bigger tips. This works for me real well.

I do the same Fuschia. And if any of you guys ever make a toon on Starsider, I'll give you a free makeover and make you a few outfits to get you stylin' right away

Just the fact that the player wants to earn their own way in the game is enough to evoke my generosity.

I agree with FushiaD and Kwee about the tips and a fixed price for stat migration. There is nothing wrong with lowering the price for those who are poor, but not begging. I do that pretty often since I seem to have the luck to be mostly spared by freebee-hunters and lazy beggars.

I tried this when I made Sepia into an ID... and got crap for payment. I had one customer come for a stat migration so he could wear his composite armor who paid me 500 credits for 2 sessions, another who paid 1k per session, and several who paid nothing at all... of all the stat migrations I did, only one paid me the 10k that is my set fee for stat migrations when Iam doing ID work with Ssumidra or Dar'yia. The funny thing is, I ask people to pay what they think it's worth for real ID work and have gotten anywhere from 500 credits for a set of holoemotes to 150k for an eye-color change... but if I say the same about stat migrations I don't get paidenough to make it worth my while.

Well, it sure does bring the in the dough!
I'm considering getting my guy an ID on Flurry <I have no fear! ahhhhh!!!> to support him as a fencer...

While I agree with most of the sentiments on this post, I only have two true complaints with stat migrations. One is that I can't do it outside of salons. Before the ID revamp, I liked sitting in cantinas to do my work. A crowd of dancers makes for good conversation during downtimes, and would certainly help when my customer is the "strong silent" type. This is really rather minor though. My big complaint, on Valcyn anyway, is that there seem to be too few IDers for customers. I've had people tell me they've been searching for an IDer for days, and lines of 10 people or so. I would direct them to the "Find Image Designers" post, but most are so happy to finally have found one, they're willing to wait an hour or so for their turn. I guess I just feel bad that something that was once so simple can be a big hassle for some players.
...As for newbies playing the guilt card, I either remind them that they had a chance when they created their character to instantly migrate, or tell them that most low level enemies are easy enough no matter how borked your stats are (I speak from experience). Unless they really have a good story... one guy was on his way over to me, and /punched an Imperial officer, not knowing that NPCs react to that, and wassubsequently killed and had his moneytaken. He offered to pay by showing me his ugly head (he was a rather ugly rodian)... the whole situation had me laughing, so I told him just pay whenever.
Overall, I like it. It gives consistent income, gives me a service I can easily defend when I charge, and if I get tired of them, just go to a town without a salon for business.

If anyone tries to pull a guilt trip on me for being a new, penniless player, they're outta there. But if someone says "Oh, I don't have that much, lemme run some missions and I'll be back", I'll do it for free. Just the fact that the player wants to earn their own way in the game is enough to evoke my generosity.

I think it's a valid criticism to say that if stat migration is limited to salons then there should be more salons about, but I've been thinking it through. If ID salons could be added to player cities it could end up being a big problem with image designers scattered all over the planet getting very little custom as no one knows where to find them, and customers lost for choice and getting even more annoyed at never being able to track down an ID.
For something like that to work there would have to be some kind of communication system set up in game to enable ID's and customers to be in the same place at the same time. If it were only so simple as picking up the phone and calling the salon for an appointment...

Why more salons. Now people know where to get statmigrations. And when it comes to price. Price is not a problem the way I see it. Charge 10-20k and most people are happy.
I would say.. give the new ones statmigration for free. There are not many however new players who ask for statmigration as they dont understand it nor have enough knowledge to do it right. For the veteran ones or those who have been around a for a few weeks. 10-20k is nothing.

Trouble is proving someone is a newbie.
And just for example, not a FRS Jedi in disguise.

I guess it only works for some. I never have a set fee and for a stat migration, I generate on average 20k per stat migrate. I guess it all depends on the server. I do this on Corbantis. So, either it's the server, the location to where I do my work, or I don't know what, but I'm really interested now to see why there's such a difference. If you all don't do this, try it and tell me what the results are. I'd like to know what server, species, gender, location, and average amount paid.

It depends largely on luck on the draw [of the clients] really.
I charge 30k for Stat Migration, I often get 50k instead from the same people when I'm still asking a fixed price.
Today, I've asked for no price because I was quite frankly bored, got 0 cred, and 1000 credit.

There are two solutions to this, one player-side, one developer-side.
Player-side: create a custom chat channel on your server called ID. Publicize it. Have other IDs join it. When someone needs ID services they can join the channel and find their nearest ID.
Developer-side: let us ^$&%ing register! Has it occurred to anyone else that even now that we have a structure we still can't register?!
