Thread: I've heard a terrible rumor...

"Hmm... I hope I get you right that with 'leets' you mean powergamers and the like? In that case I can still not agree that they actually 'hate' us. It's with many things between humans: They fear what they don't understand."

Well, neither of us know for sure whether it's fear or hatred. But it's a fact thatfear and misunderstanding lead to hatred. I've seen too many vitriolic posts and got too much disrespect in the game from leets to pass it off as merely fear and misunderstanding. If these guys don't hate us, they're doing a pretty good job of faking it.

Look at the other MMOs on the market. Most, if not all, are almost pure combat, that's what they are about. Slay the dragon, fight the demon, etc etc. SWG came out with a new perspective: that crafting and socializing are valid playstyles, right along with combat. Obviously they had to include combat, it wouldn't be starwars without conflict, but they also realized ther ewas room for more than just that in the SW world. Some players, mostly longtime players of other games as well, have some trouble adapting to this realization, that SW is not just about combat.

If I can draw an analogy, imagine what your grandparents or great-grandparents would think about jobs today involving computers. Most involve someone sitting around, with little physical activity, giving no immediately tangible benefit to the world around them. A farmer is easy to understand, they grow food so that people can eat. A doctor is easy to understand, they take care of people's health problems. A firefighter, a carpenter, a construction worker, all of these are easy to understand, as their tangible impact on the world is easily seen. I think this is the same mindset that a lot of players look at the entertaining professions with. They don't kill anything, they don't make anything, and they are saddled to buildings in main cities so I can't even use the few services I need from them without taking a special trip. This causes animosity, because they still don't even understand why these people are there, and not farming, or building, or killing. It's a new playstyle, and will take time to gain acceptance from those who dislike change.

For that matter, what would your grandparents think about all the time you spend on this game?

Leet and powergamer are not one in the same. Leets are a specific cultural subset of powergamers, far more given to griefing, ganking, and other antisocial behaviorsthan other powergamers. The term powergamer simply implies a vast quantity of time playing—I am, technically, a powergamer. I am not, however, a leet.

I think we are speaking of the same folks then... a matter of definition, that's why I asked... I personally don't see ppl that try to play effectivly or try to get the most out of a character or even a template or that simply put much time into playing as powergamers. For me powergamers are those folks that were here discribed as 'leet'. Good we settled this

(Isn't communication great? )

Well, whatever it is, however we might call it. It is a fact that some players really need to realize, that they are not playing against anyone, but actually WITH others players of flesh and blood... Sometimes I really wonder they they would behave like this in this strange universe called Reality... I bet, most won't. They feel sooooo strong in this virutal environment behind this wall of the internet and the mask of their avatar.

I think this applies to A LOTof people who play this game, whether they're willing to admit it or not. I will be the first to admit that I am far, far more opinionated in this game and on these boards than I would have the nerve to be in real life. I know this will come as a gigantic shock to most of you... but I am very, very soft-spoken and nonconfrontational in real life. LOL

just to put my .02$ in here....

i gotta agree with most people.... why spend time to redo a profession, giving us places to do out profession and such, only to remove it. Honestly, if they removed ID from the game, that would probably be it for me.... ID and Tailor is my money maker.... i enjoy both very much, most days the ID more the tailor, simply cause i love to change myself!!

All I hope is this is false... i am gonna believe Kwee... (crosses fingers)

It's just never going to happen. It would affect the entire Entertainer tree as well as ID. They would have to figure out another way to force players to get stats done by another profession. It's just too complex. The developers just don't get that complex without spending 6 months talking about it first, and then it would take another year to implement.

This is just a silly rumour, probably spread by some leetwho doesn't like the fact thathe has to pay to migrate stats.

But the jedi have already dictated the course of our profession, everyone of them became a hologrinder (because it was the only way to be a jedi) and everyone of them changed the way we play EVERY profession. The jedi class ruined our economy, our community and our professions, its no wonder they are hunted so ferverishly now Please note I am not targeting the players who play jedi, but the jedi class as a profession in the game.

Fact, hologrinding has nearly sunk this game into the toilet and the added attention to jedi with 2 patches is making alot of people's mouths' sour. Solution: Make jedi a playable profession without having to earn it. It's not like it would be a continuity breech considering 75% of the game breaks it already. If players were able to make jedi from the start I bet you jedi would be rare this day had they kept perma-death.

I don't really think the devs forsaw teh impact the old jedi system would have on the game. Fact: Not everyone would want to be a jedi if they kept the perma-death system. The system would remain organic because only the true achievers would be master jedi. The devs have always had a soft spot for whiners, which goes beyond logical reason. I am no astromech stat droid but I bet you at least 65% of those whiners who changed thegame and gotthier way have cancelled thier accounts and left us with thier destruction.

This has been a source of my anger in the past months, and anger not meant to be directed at you the Image Design Community, but the jedi class and the hologrind that came with it. Even to this day, there is talk of changing the ID xp progression, when it is fine the way it is. Our xp never went up a ramp, and the xp per box has been "almost" the same since launch. The timer simulates what past veterans went through (A combination of missions, sitting/waiting for mind pool and lack of clientele in the way beginning). With a timer, ID's suffer no mind pool loss and use les mind per design. This mimics a veteran ID who would do 1-3 big designs and have to wait 3-5 minutes to start a new session (god forbid you didnt mitigate your mind pool properly, some could not even do ONE higher end design without a full mind pool).

As I am sure you are aware, that is a matter of opinion, and you are one of the few who holds that opinion. Please don't bring up that old argument.

You only make it a matter of opinion so no one can tell you that you are wrong... Why do you always feel the need to begin a fight with me? The only people who support your ideals are a hand ful of masters in this community (who want to be heros to the "downtrodden" I suppose), and an army of people afraid to do a little work for thier title.

Do you want people to master our profession in under 2 weeks? Is that fun? Is that achievment? To go through game content in 2 weeks? You wonder why SWG has plummeting subscriptions? Its because most of them went through game content in under 3 months and found themselves bored to death. All professions need a slow down in Xp progress not just image designers. So to be frank, it's NOT an OPINION that XP progress is fine, it's a FACT. This is your first MMO, isnt it?

Jedi thought perma-death and XP loss wasnt fun. They whined and cried and now look at them. They are the most powerful players in the galaxy and run around without fear or a care in the world. Sure that may be fun for them but it breaks my continuity and hope that I have for this game. I unlocked my jedi slot and never made one because of the jedi community and it's ease of dub-downed play now.

Keep up your crusade Fuschia, I'll still be around to fix the mess if the devs actually entertain the Xp progress.
