Thread: ID exploits

It doesn't matter whether everyone is affected. All that matters is that you're a) abusing the game mechanics in a way that was not intended and b) gain something by using the exploit which other people can not gain in any legitimate way. That's the 'advantage' you gain. Advantage does not have to refer to xp or money.

Anybody else notice that 90% of trolls don't tell you what server they play on or their in-game name?

I agree Xixxix..hope I got that right...I too don't think ppl should use it just because it is available..but you and I both know that no matter how we feel..ppl are going to use it. I am simply saying that I just laugh it off becase 1) there is nothing more i can do to stop it then to report it and not use it and 2) eventually it will be fixed. So instead of this taking away from the fun of the game...i just laugh it off...especially when I see a wookiee walking around in a afro or Lekku's.

Altared...and if stating my opinion on the matter is considered a troll to you...well oh well..guess I am a troll. Some choose not to post there name for one reason or another..that is their business.

Perfect example of ppl using something out of context..so eager to yell troll when one is simply stating an opinion...that to me is hardly a troll.

For all the rest of you I am hoping they fix this soon as it shouldn't ruin the game for you..it is a game...meant to be fun (not abused). Just have fun and smile

I don't see the problem with interspecies/intergender changes. It's my character and I can do with it what I want. There are things others do with their characters that I don't appreciate, like a human female running around in a bone armor chest plate, bone armor boots and her white granny panties.....now that's just tacky, but not my character so what can I do? Nothing, her game, she bought it, she pays for it monthly and she has to spend all her time looking at herself so I roll my eyes and let it go. I don't berate her for it, I don't say a word. Dancers dancing with a combat staff, looks ridiculous and is annoying but I understand why they do it and I keep my mouth shut. I myself dance with a dagger to keep from falling during mind buffs because I have to flourish so much. So dislike it, refuse to do it, disagree with it and explain to those that ask for it why you do but stop trying to tell me and anybody else that wants to that we can't put on a wig of some sort if we want to. You fuss and carry on about exploits and using the command line options to make changes that the ui doesn't allow but didn't I see another post by Kwee saying she found a workaround in command line for twi'lek eyebrows? What's the difference in a workaround and an exploit....if it's not in the ui you should be staunch and NOT do it! Hair...horns....or eyebrows!

Noone is saying the commands should not be used. We are saying they should not be used in a way not intended. I use text commands to modify eyebrows because I qualify for eyebrow changing, and I use them on a species that was given eyebrows by SOE. The commands being used by exploiters are listed along with all of the other text commands in the game provided for macroing.

It is not the commands that are the exploit, but the way in whichcertain people use them.

Yes SOE is a game and should be fun, but it is also a massively multi player game and as such you need to think about how you affect others. Exploiters having access to Image Design modifications takes business from Image Designers. I see you are also a tailor as well, how would you feel if through a text command anyone, even non-Tailors could have access to every schematic, all the way through Master Tailor?

If you feel the need to get me somewhere, get me on using the bald workaround. It's using the game mechanics in a way not intended. I justify it in thinking that baldness, like Twi'lek eyebrows, is an ability the devs intend for us to have. I sometimes think I may be wrong in thinking it is justified,and I'll freely admit it.

Interspecies hairstyles are another story altogether, we know for a fact that the devs do not intend for that to happen, and so if we make it happen we are carrying out an exploit.

I want to try it on myself, just once, to see what I can do. I can't help it, I'm naturally curious about this and I've never had to deal with it on my server.

So if there are any master ID's on Tarquinas who know what the heck this is about, get in touch with me! I'm dying to know!

And just to add fuel to the fire, I tend to think that this is more of a bug than an exploit. Just my opinion

These are NOT exploits ppl. Don't you know exploit from bug? or bad program design?

Exploit=Interrupting others game play

Bug=Bad program design

Incorrect.

Bug = bad program implementation.

Exploit = Taking advantage of a bug. Period. Has nothing to do with whether or not it affects anyone else.

So if people are so confident this is not an exploit why haven't they posted the commands?? I mean seriously if you are so sure SOE feels this is just a bug they will fix, then put it out there and lets see what they do to your account. TIme to put up or shut up on this topic.

I think some of you are taking this game far too seriously.

Well, I've been reporting people who ask me for the exploit code (I don't even know it) and I've been telling people who may not know any better, ie: someone who isn't an image designer, that it's an exploit. A couple people have freaked out, and one just didn't seem to care. People are watching, be careful what you do, you might be suspended or banned if SOE sees fit.

I don't like exploiters whether it's involing a creature handler or a credit duper, or a twi'lek running around with horns. It's not fair, andit's NOT meant to be in the game.

I agree with you, and i really hope more follow your example and start reporting people who know this is an exploit and seek to do it anyway and the ID'ers who perform these exploits as well.

I am so glad this has been fixed. I have been asked countless times from others to do this for them and I refused. Besides it looks stupid.

I am truly amazed by some of the comments on this board. Think about it, some of you are getting insulting over whether or not a character's hair can be changed in a video game. This is suppose to be mostly a helpful and friendly community, it's not like we are some of the other professions that are constantly squabbling, e.g. pistoleer. We are suppose to help each other and not attack other people if their views are different.
Kwee, I see what you are saying in regards to the bug or exploit or whatever term people care to refer to it by. However, I respectfully disagree. I've stated my case earlier on this thread, but I would like to interject something else. The changing of interspecies hair and the forcible change of body characteristics are being lumped together in this topic, they are two entirely different things. Giving someone a different hairstyle from a different race because they request it is one thing, maliciously changing someone's appearance is another. One way helps people enjoy their gaming experience, the other ruins it for the gamer. Many individuals on this thread seem to be under the impression that if you do one, you are by default going to do the other. I have never, nor will I ever force a change on anyone in this game. I am part of this profession because it makes other people enjoy that gaming experience more and makes them happier in general with their character, which inturn provides a generally good feeling to me because I've helped someone.
People also keep tauting the exploit in which novice id's can do master changes through the command line and saying anyone who does the coding changes probably did that as well. Some people probably did, but some people will make the worst out of every situation. I grinded my experience with no macro or anything except some moun gold for nearly a month to become a master at this profession, and I do not appreciate the generalizations.
The developers have been unusually quiet on this issue; if they choose to take it out of our hands to do these changes, then I am perfectly fine with that. However, barring having missed something, I have not seen a this is wrong and immoral post from them. This will undoubtedly cause other people who are reading this to laundry list other exploits that have not been responded to, but there is a difference with this. This is not something that is damaging the game in anyway, or hurting any character (I am referring to hair modifications). This is something being done to make other people happier who have grown tired of how they look.
To answer the question of "Why don't you just post the code...put up or shut up." (you'll have to forgive me if I don't remember who posted that), the answer to that is simple. I do not tell anyone the code for anything. This is not a selfish thing, but rather something that took me time to learn, it was not told to me or given to me, and I am not simply willing to hand it out to everyone who just started iding who feels they have a right to know.
