Thread: Reports from the FanFest
oh btw i calculated it , i found doing eye changes takes approx 100 hours (at a rate of 2 mins and 15 secs) with a friend is 50 hours and doing stat migrations is approx 111.11 hours. you might get them to listen to you if you beat them up and steal their lunch monies

Ok, this has been the wierdest experience so far. I went to the meet and greet for the FanFest and discover... horror of horrors.. the Developers are geeks exactly like the players.
Example: Rogue-5 was sitting indian style in a little camp circle with another Dev, talking with a group of players about strange SWG experiences, likemale avatarswho figured out how to trick the game into letting themwear things like Exotic Leotard.. or something like that.
I got my registration badge from Runesabre himself. We chatted for a bit, and I tried to work in Image Design. He admitted to me that 62-122-245 hours is a bit long, and actually it was a big relief.. the Developers are really just normal people, after all! Who would have thought that?
So hopeful I'll find NJ62 somewhere around here, and we can get some sort of system going to drag the answers out of the Devs in the Entertainer panel tomorrow!
That is a horrible answer IMO. I wish I could have caught this thread before you went I would have liked it if the devs heard directly bout mah idea

Good job guys...not surprising answers, but at least we had some people there representing the side!
Very cool

What I remember of the motion capture: ballet type dances, gymnastics, juggling, breakdancing, more masculine dances, some stick-ribbony props, more cool tka stuffs, dual weilding pistols, dual weilding lightsabres (interacting with the double sabre thingy no less)

Hmm, then I guess the Acrobat profession that sneaked into the Test database is coming alot later [the gymnastics and juggling come to mind for it].
Well, FanFest is over.
The Live Adventure was fun, even though I wasn't paired up with anyone on my server, and I'm not sure we won anything. Here's a hint for future FanFest Attendees: Bring a list of common creature types, servers, professions, and master of SW trivia. Nerf pistol skills are useful, as is a proficiency at paper, rock, scissors.
The Entertainment Forum was interesting, though not entirely soothing. Runesabre and another developer were there. Lots of questions were asked:
Q: "When will Image Designer recieve additional content, such as hairstyles, tatoos, etc?"
A: It's not in the plans at the moment. Content like Image Designers customization is a large part of the lag many experience in game. They feel that resources for Image Design content is better used on content that other players desire more.
Q(asked by NJ62!): "Are the designers looking into the rather torturously boring progression inflicted on the Image Design Community in the latest revamp?"
A: "We are continuing to look into that."
Q: "Are the Developers aware that the Force Sensitivity System, as presented thus far, includes absolutely no bonuses for Entertainers?"
A: "We'll look into that when we get back." *took notes*
Q: "A large part of the problem all Entertainer professions face is that they derive no personal benefit to their abilities, e.g. ID's cannot Migrate themselves, Dancers and Musicians cannot buff themselves. Has there been any thought at perhaps giving Master ID's the ability to Migrate themselves, or permanently self buff all Master Dancers or Musicians?"
A: They expressed that the Development Team is concerned that doing something like this could cause the Entertainer professions to change in a negative way, and that until they are convinced otherwise this is not likely to happen.
The only other thing of note was an annoying Jedi player at the Entertainment forum. He kept getting called on and would ask questions about the new Jedi path that were answered in the 'Path of the Jedi' Forum earlier, and on the boards here. They had nothing to do with Entertainment, but the Dev's were more than happy to answer him at length. *sigh* I suppose I'm just so impatient to get things answered, but he got called on twice.
After that, I went to the Art session. There was a very cool demo of how they create the SWG enviroment, and you got to see the new Dual Wielding and some new dances and combat animation actually being motion captured. It was very cool to watch! So yes, people will dual wield weapons.. and as soon as possible, it looks like, though that's probably after JtLS.
After that I went to the Politician, Merchant and the Economy session. This session was interesting mostly because it was full of players, but empty of Dev's. A lot of people went looking for one, but there was nary a one in sight. So... um... there wasn't a lot of Politician questions answered, and none for Merchants sad to say. Sorry!
After that was the dinner and award ceremony. Note to future FanFest attendees: If you plan on seconds at this kind of buffet, get two plates when you go up the first time. The table will be gone before you finish the first one. Also, the buffet is free, but the drinks are $3-6. I passed, and went with water. It was good food, though!
Overall, I enjoyed the experience, and I think my money was well spent. If I was in it just for JtLS, though, it would have been a waste. It was cool to see so many players... and despite what you might think of the playerbase of SWG, it's mostly people 30+ from what I saw. I figure it's because of the age most people were at when the original trilogy came out.
Oh, yeah.. the Fan Films they showed were the best! And I loved the Jump to Lightspeed demo. I think a lot of people will come to SWG based solely on this expansion. I just hope in all the excitement that the Devs don't forget the promises they made...
Hope you enjoyed reading!
Good news on the motion captures, especially those that relate to dancing and entertaining. Bad news on the buffing situation. ![]()
I still don't quite understand why they think this would be so negative, especially considering everything else that goes on.
