Thread: As a male ID...

The guy Ava is seeing is a Zabrak Jedi with a penchant for pink - pink clothes, pink horns. I was dancing in the cantina the other day and got a request to buff a couple of players, both male. Apparently one of them read my bio and said "You're with Geen?" When I said yes, he said "I didn't think he liked girls..." >.< In this game, if you do anything out of the norm - profession wise or anything else - you run the risk of being labeled. Guys who play entertainer characters (or wear anything but black 24/7) are labeled as homosexuals. Hot female 'toons are labeled as Todds (Tarquinas speak for guy playing a girl). It drives me up the wall. I don't like labels.

I also, just on principle, report ANYONE I see who uses the word 'f*ggot'.

It seems to me that it is the immature players that are so obsessed with this that they feel a need to harass other players... and I do NOT necessarily mean the 12 to 16-year-olds (though the majority of immature players do seem to fall into that age category). As far as I'm concerned, it is no one else's business whether you play characters that are the same sex you are or not and for anyone to ask such a stupid question is the height of rudeness. Personally, I don't play mmog games to "date" other people's characters and don't understand why anyone else would. That being the case, I see no reason why anyone (regardless of their sexual preference) can't play any character of any race, sex or profession... and WITHOUT being harassed for their choice!

Yeah, it is amazing how many adults can sink into a childish stupidity because they can hide behind a computer screen.

I don't play the game for this purpose either; be that as it may, the game was designed with this function and it's a lot of fun for roleplay purposes, if it doesn't get out of hand. Both my main characters are either married or seeing someone. Fuschia is married to another woman, which works out perfectly for both of us because we're both taken IRL and it gives us something to tell the random prepubescent kids that hit on us. (Of course, most of them are like 'omg lesbians, hawt lolz'.) Ava just recently met Geen - he's a Jedi and a big-name player on the server (I call him Mr. Tarquinas). He, too, is taken IRL, and our relationship is totally easy and makes my playtime SO MUCH more fun.

So, there's why I do it.

I beleive that a RPG's allow me to escape reality only to the extent that nobody knows who I am in RL. Other than that, what SWG allows goes.

It seems to me that all of you who find something that others do 'offensive' have a problem, not the people committing these actions. You have an /addignore command at your disposal. It's almost a capitalist tool. If everyone you know ignores that person, they can't do much more than play a single-player RPG without things like ID, custom orders or social interaction.

Further, remember that things are extremely relative. Many homosexuals call themselves '**edit**', just like 'blacks' or 'African-Americans' call themselves 'niggers'. If you find things like this offensive, or if SOE banned me from typing certain phrases, I might say that you've violated the first amendment. But then I remember that this is private property that being allowed to enjoy. So I guess you guys are smart in trying to get SOE to make the game play you're way, but from a people perspective, you have no specific right to control how others play. You can tell them. You can ignore them. You can do as I do and interact with them.

I've got some combat skills, but not much seeing that I'm MID and MTailor. However, I have challenged almost every rude person that I have ever encountered. I might lose some PvP rankings. It might cost me a few minutes to recover. But I stand up for myself. I solve my own problems. Occassionally friends will help me. But why call the police (CSR) when you can handle these things yourself. You're just asking for a police state, some sort of CSR martial law, that is unecessary and just shows how spineless you are.

I won't talk to you like this in the game, but for RL, take a reality check. It's a game. You get to decide how to deal with problems. I see that crying to your parents is the choice that you've made. I hope that it can be otherwise.

Nice.

In regards to insults from the rest of the player community, I've had a really great time since my server's last big player event RPing with folks. I met a few and we've talked off and on and it's quite cool, so I'm more in character now. The other day, I had a Trandoshand character in full composite with his caps lock on tell me to give him brandy and canape and when I said no he called me a **edit**. Now, I understand this isn't as personally derogatory as some of the other things discussed here, but there is this point --

After he called me a **edit**, I made a slur against his being a Trandoshan and went on my way. He did too, off to beg from someone else. Probably he didn't understand the RP defense, but he didn't press it, it didn't become harassment, and I catalogued it as RP in my mind which let me shrug it off. If he'd kept it up I would have reported him for harassment, and this is where I think the difference comes in.

If I'd had to /addignore him to get away from hateful remarks, that's uncool and should be reported. If he went off to go be an idjit somewhere else, then there's really nothing to report harassment for. The guy who was an idjit to me went on my /notepad list of customers I will never work on.

But. If you want to get back at people in game -- make friends with the other ID's in your tent and on your server. Make a list of them. If someone is a real jackass to you, ask your friends to stick up for you and not give the person service until he's learned some manners. That's a decent enough way for the little irritants who aren't really harassments to be frustrated back, and maybe learn some manners. A lot of ID's are willing to show support for their fellow IDers.

Heh... I suppose that makes sense in a weird way. Mind, I have nothing against other people "dating" in the game, I just won't do it myself. Of course, the majority of the people I've met in game have been younger than I am in RL, so I suppose it might be an age thing as to why I don't understand it.

Get real! Harassment is NEVER acceptible... in game or out! And it doesn't matter what someone calls THEMSELVES, for a NON-FRIEND to call a person names is never acceptible... and as Mawie said, there are words that are never acceptible under ANY circumstances. Game or not, there is such a thing as MANNERS. It's not like we are being offended by other people's oppinions or lifestyles, we are offended by harassment.

Ooh! Ooh!

Use EmptyCase's tactics and say, "Heh. Yeah. I'm a guy, and look at all the hot chicks who come to me looking for boob jobs. Aww, yeah." Note: this should be used only when the other ID's in the tent understand there's more to you being an ID than pixellated boobies, and this should probably be used against only the clearly sexually frustrated clients.

I'minnocent.

Im a female ID and the rest of my proffessions are combat. Anywyas, Yes their are alot of immature 12-16 year olds on this game. There are mature ones, but not that many in that age group on this game. Anyways, I am a twilek and I've been called wh*re, slave, b1tch, and many other names if I dont ID someone when they want to, I always end up kicking their butt though , Some of the other comments around here are a little disturbing that people would actually say those things to other players. They only do it because they are behind the screen. In real life they would get their a*s kicked. Eh like you all said, its just a bunch of immature kids. I also dont see why males cant be dancers in the game. True..when they do the exotic dance is looks VERY femenine, SOE needs to masculinize(is that a word? ) the exotic dances for males. But what these little kids have to learn is that, this is not jabbas palace from the movies . When you go into a cantina, there arent just going to be skimpy little female slaves dancing away for a big slug. There will be both genders of all kinds of species dancing away. Get over it.

Janae, you say it is whining, but the problem is that arguing (or even dueling)in this gamereally doesn't solve any problems. I mean, you saw my story above, and I'm a master of 2 combat profs right now. Arguing back with those people would have only frustrated me, and had I challenged them to duel me they would have complained about how it isn't far since they are "just" entertainers. I think some of the worst discrimination I have gotten in this game has been by OTHER IDs or OTHER dancers... NOT the general public.

And I fail to understand your logic of telling those who find other people's actions offensive that the problem is on OUR end. I might be missing something, but I have NEVER thought the word "c.unt" have been appropriate in any context. There is no group of humans from the isle of vag who call themselves that. You can't even compare black culture using the n-word to that phrase. It is truly like compairing apples and oranges. There are words in this language that are purely offensive and never used in a friendly way.

And that handy /addignore feature only goes so far. My list is currently full. But in the case above, I ignored them and they still continued to speak in a derogative manor about me. What have I solved then? Just because I cannot hear them doesn't mean they aren't saying terrible things about me; infact, I was told it only got worse. How did I win in that situation?

Sorry you live by the sticks and stones philosophy of life. However, some of us are not as thick skinned.

(I was going to add this as an edit to the above post, but I thought it deemed its own...)

OMG, LOL I just realized that you (Janae) are the person who basically called me and Fuschia idiots in an other thread because we called you grinding ID (despite being a master) to max out your exp so you can get FS, *gasp* GRINDING. Haha. *begins throwing grains of salt everywhere*

Some people need to learn how to speak to others before they begin a posting career. SHEESH.

Haha, a few of us just unwittingly fed a troll!

I'm all about having in game relations. I feel something missing if I do not have the attention. What can I say I need to feel loved.

My only fault is I tend to alwaaaays be the dominant leadin the relationship.. which really is not me in real life. I usually get fed up waiting for a direction to go in so I just go and get teste if not followed.
