Thread: ID State of the Profession

1.New art content - If you're going to ask when ID's will get new content, I doubt you will see it anytime soon, but if you want to ask, go ahead cause I would like to know when a real revamp will occur.

2.Timer issues- only issue is getting the stat migration timer on the person instead of the IDer.

4.Exp progression issues - a. b. and c. are good ideas, but add what has already been suggested or combine it with a.to get more xp as you have higher skill

5.User Interface issues - all are good and this is definately a top 5 issue

6.Stat migration issues - all the problems can be solved if people can migrate themselves again at the slow rate. IDs as an optionand what I already stated for #2. This is more of a top 5 issue to me and I don't see #3 as an issue that will be addressed anytime soon.

8.Ability to ID Merchant Vendors - hopefully this will occur even though it doesn't seem likely, it's a pain to get the vendor you want (took me 50 tries to get a female twi'lek that wasn't fat or ugly or both).

11.Rework of skill distribution - my suggestion is to give the +1 abilities in master to the lower trees so specialists can have business besides expert hairstylists and masters (novices can still migrate). The removal of the timer is enough for masters.

12.More temporary abilities - I hate temporary things, butbody paint and better make upwould be great, especially if they are permanent and are part of the markings/face lines.

15.The ability to craft - tailors want dye packs too, but I don't think that is likely to happen, and neither will this. But females not being able to buy makeup and have to be novice entertains to change their makeup is just silly.

16.Image Designer Missions - while it would be a better alternative to making money than stat migrations, it's not likely to happen, the devs would have done this with entertainer missions and they really don't want to move IDers out of the salons.

18.Force sensitivity enhancements - beyond making the timer faster, there aren't many other choices.

One more thing to add about XP...

ID 3 = 10000 XP

ID 4 = 15000 XP

noviceID = 10000 XP

any level 1 skill = 10000 XP

any level 2 skill = 20000 XP

the trees really need some work...

I'm hesitant about any increased Master perks in terms of the timer. I don't even like the pending one for that matter. Master ID already gets some of the most desired body type changes and the "full palettes". Self-Stat Mig would harm the non-master ID minimally, as the only potentially customers they lose are the master IDs.

Given that people still only seeking Stat Migration perfer to go to a Master ID for no readily apparant reason [maybe they want us to try to sell them on some bodywork?], I even doubt a skill redistribution [ie, taking some of the more valuable Master ID changes out of Master] would significantly improve the situation.

I just see those two goals as a bit conflicting to me, and the later goal seems a bit more important to me in keeping the profession viable.

I am of a mind with Sir Voor and Reiella on their issues.

The mechanics of what we do could be a lot more fun.

The distribution of our skills needs revision and/or a system needs to be put into place which allows for adiquate competition.

This not only holds true for ID, but all other directly competitive professions as well.

Unforunately, that list includes some items that have already been nixed by LucasArts/LucasFilms. It'd also push any such changes as far back as "After JtL" due to numerous New Art requests . It's a bit frustrating when we can't integrate requests too well because of art team time constraints.

I know. It was just an illustration of an old proposal to make NIDs less gimped.

Take it as a given that Master ID's will have no timers in tents. That is where they will be in competition with Novices (who are there for the reduced timers) and not as much outside the tents. All that said, I'd rather we focus on how we can enhance Novice ID's so they are more desirable than on how to gimp or limit Master ID's so they are less. We should have a brainstorm discussion on that and see what comes of it. All that said though nothing drastic is likely to happen for us forquite a while, we just got a lot of love and at this point I only expect tweaking and the content that has been mentioned here and there as coming one day (player city tents, tattoos, vendor ID'ing for example) though anything can change

For the majority of the top 20items I used votesto place everything. If I were to have made up the list on my own it would look quite different

State of the Profession Rough Draft - V 2

Lastly, there are onlythree types of experience now, with the step upsgranted at ID II (body modification = 150exp or 300exp) and Novice ID (stat migration = 2000 exp after Publish 9). There is no expincrease as skill increases, as is true for other professions. But exp requiredincrease at the same rate other profesions, thus making it much harder to get upper level boxs. Edit* Try getting pistol 4 using only a D18 pistol and novice skills

Stat migration

Public city tents are currently the only place stat migrations can take place. Some ID's are not doing stat migration because the tents are inconvenient to access (sayon a different planet than their residence) or because their playtime is limited and they spend a great deal of time involved in crafting or combat (in locations other than public cities).Requests to alleviate this issue include player-city-placeable tents, private-home-placeable terminals, and droidmodules.

Players are having difficulties finding ID's to migrate their stats. While the above suggestions would help, another would be to add planet registration to both public and player city tents, and also to terminals or droids if ever granted.

Otherreasons some ID's are avoiding stat migrationare the ten minute timer attached to it and the negative reactions of some customers at having to pay for the service. There have been several reports of ID's being verbally harassed when informing a player they charge for the service, or when informing a player of what that charge is. Many players while not verbally abusive have no interest in socializing with the ID migrating their stats and go afk or chat with friends leaving the ID to sit alone for ten minutes. Ten minutes is too big of a time sink. And unlike the comparable case of a starport wait, the ID has no choice but to stay put in the tent for the entirety of the wait. One way to alleviate this would be to lower the stat migration timerand put the rest of the time on the customer side.

Many IDers support the return of the old stat migration system to run long with the current ID one. This would let players fine tune their own stats (via the old system)and give them a quick way to do a major stat change (via using an IDers). Also it would put prices for stat migration under control. Plus it would great help the negativeity issues IDers now have.

Might it also be worth pointing out there that normally the player will only have to make the wait (which is probably less than 10minutes) twice in a row at most, whereas IDs dealing with customers could potentially be doing in the whole time they're in the ID tent?

Incorporated the two above suggestions, except for old stat migration coming back. I'm not convinced a majority of ID's want that to happen, I'll start a discussion. Even so, ID'ers who do not post in this forum are much more likely to speak positively about the recent changes, including stat migration

This is just a wording issue but I'm thinking we should say "declare house as salon" instead of "terminal". I feel that we want more just to be able to place ugly terminal into a house and fear the devs may take it to mean that. By saying "declare house as salon" I feel that they are more likely to understead we mainly want a place on the globel map and a ID salon sign not just stat migration.

I would definitely hash out the finer details with the devs should we ever be granted such a thing

PS. Hey, I like the pink terminals
