Thread: MY Fan Fest notes!
Hey there gothywench. I remember having a good time at the entertainer forums. I walked away from both of them feeling very positive about the future of my character and SWG in general.
Out of all the forums, ours had the best dev/player ratio.
It was more like a conversation with the devs than a formal Q&A session.

As i said: for the devs the issues and potential problems with such an option/ability most likely outweights the gain for the comunity by far. Yes, the Customer Support folks CAN change names of players (since they need to handle bad/inproper names), but that's allways a difficult thing for them and as far as I know they really hate to do it because of all the problems that usually arise.
That is exactly how the explained it at the Fan Fest. It is possible that in the future something associated with the marriage thing *might* happen, but I don't think it will. They did not sound like they wanted to take that on.
Me? I'd trade name change for CONTENT any day.

TechnoCan, I have one further question about the name change. Would it be possible to list in a characters bio something along the lines of "formerly known as Joe Public" or something. So folks will know by looking who this person used to be. Would help cut out the griefing. I know the name changing is a long shot, but hey we can throw ideas around
The problem about the bio is, that many bios are very big... and if you get ganked or harrassed by someone you don't usually examine that person to see if he got such an entry in his bio.
and it would probably end up like this:
"Formerly known as pinkpanther, formerly known as jackrabbit, formerly known as lukethesonofvader, formerly known as Ihateyouall, formerly known as...."
Well you got the idea I think.
And there is one more point why the devs will most probably never allow for a name change: There is basically only a limited number of character names, that actually look/sound like names. If players start changing their names the number of "free" names would shrink drastically leaving not much room for newcomers. And you have to lock down previously used names of renamed folks to lower potential issues and griefings.

Very true about the bios. In fact one of mycharacters bio is bugged so it never even loads. I think it may be due to the number of badges he has. But if that same bugs exists on a player who is less then honest any information linked to the bio could not be seen.
Sounds like I would have enjoyed being there... especially the smaller forums.
Let's hope that the promises of focusing on all facets of gameplay will come true.
Combined with the Star Wars nature of this game... the focus on so many different facets of gaming was the greatest thing it had going for it and it is also was what I thought was so special about this game.

Yes, adding a bunch of new "skins" for items, as opposed to adding a new layer.
Spec Ops backpacks are a good example...
One character might like a bright, shiny, perfectly polished looking spec ops backpack...
While another character takes pride in his rusted, chipped, weather-worn and well-traveled back pack.
Same for armors, vehicles and so on...
I think that would be a cool addition to the IDers services... they are kind of a link between the in-game world and the customizing mechanics of the video-game itself. That's the same reasoning behind the call for scars and dirt and such... it's non-immersive, but it makes video-game sense. At least this wouldn't cause lag. Just over-time for the art department.
Obviously we're talking abour a lot of artwork (doubling or tripling for all included items), but that's what we do... ask for them to do work in areas we'd find fun.
Not like we're asking them to do it for free...
And more importantly, it's okay for us to make these suggestions... it's up to them to turn them down.

May the force be with you.
I suppose the whole issue with an additional layer being needed for scars and tatoos would be the same reason why they wouldn't want to make Cloaks be able to be worn over jackets, vests, armors, etc.
While I would love to see an additional clothing layer added (An outercloak/jacket layer that goes over the regular jacket layer) I would imagine the main issue behind that is the same as what they stated about scars and tatoos...
Did you happen to see anything such as this mentioned at all?
Perhaps I should check the tailor forums, hehe.
So much to look up and find out, while still trying to get through my CU noobness...
Thanks again.
May the force be with you.

Screw the name change - I'm stoked over the idea that they were looking into allowing y'all to ID the vendors! My alt is a Master Merchant and I've sat for near hours creating and deleting vendors while trying to get them similar.
That'd be a great addition for Image Designers!

We agree! We'd love to be able to fix up the vendors! It would be great, so you wouldn't have to drop/pull up/drop/pull up the vendors to try to find the look you want.

Going back to the name change issue. I dont know if this has already been suggested, but couldnt you have a name history like e-bay username history. Make it part of the character Bio, so it is searchable.
Not sure how difficult this would be to implement. Restrictions could be.
-Name change after first 3 (or 1) months of play. To allow for the n00bs who call themselves things like -D-A-R-K-J-E-D-I-K-N-I-G-H-T-
-Name change available every 6 (or 3) months after that.
-Name history stored in bio (maybe as alias or AKA)

-/tell and /banktip etc will work for the old name for a few days/weeks (Not Likely or necessary but nice to have)
Again. They have said it repeatedly. They're NOT planning on adding name change as an ID feature. If you think it should be something added in the game, you are in the wrong forum for it. IF and only IF they decide to let people get their names changed, it won't be something that Image Designers can do.
