Thread: MY Fan Fest notes!
That is pretty much how I remember it!
Another note about the name change. A good point the Dev's brought up was the use of name change by bad players and griefers to hide there pasts and continue to work mischief. Its a valid point. reputation, whether good or bad, is linked to your name in game and any change in it can have a great effect.

Thanks for the great notes![]()
I was hoping to do you proud. I think the devs just kinda cringed every time I had my hand up. Except that I had cool questions.
I was talking about griefing when doing stat migrations (2 hour wait, sitting in the tent for hours) when this little turd started harrassing us badly. He eventually threatened my life.
As I said, "Once I had my life threatened in game"
Dev - "Only once?"
Crowd and devs cracked up.
Yep. PWND by the dev panel. But honestly, they were totally concerned about this sort of thing and changing the perception of all the entertainer professions.
I arrived back to the East coast REALLY REALLY late last night and I'm still working on trying to get all the information and photos online. I got a lot of great information from the entertainer/ID profession forums, plus was able to attend other forums of professions who want to *work* with the IDs. I got a lot of great answers to things and just the knowing why they can/can't do something or why it is very challenging, made a huge difference.
They key things:
1. Salons will most likely not be player owned. I picked up that information in the player cities forums, which I felt was a better place for the question. The reason is that they don't want NPC cities to be ghost towns. They want player cities and NPC cities to have some things which are unique. (This makes complete sense actually) That being said, being able to /register at a cantina will happen. They'll also look into the possibility of /register at our own house. OH, and we will definitely be able to register at the Salons.
2. The swimming bug has been /bumped!! I described it in great detail and it went down on a couple of notepads. I mentioned it as it ties in to item #1, because no one wants to have ID done on Lok, so registering at my cantina is pointless. I have to fly off planet anyway.
3. I told them about the brown hair bug thingy again and that is already being worked on.
4. Accessories. Wookiee braids and the like. Actually, in many panels, accessories of all kinds was a big request and it is something they would like to implement. Most of the issues with that are the time to make it happen, as it's mostly in the hands of the art department. They LIKE the idea of wookiee braids. The sparky hair and stuff is more of a problem. They did say it was easier to do for clothing and will look into that.
5. Which brings us to scars/tatooing. The problem is in the rendering. To do this, you have to add another "layer" to the player. This in turn, creates issue in rendering. If you think lag is bad now, adding a layer to *every* toon out there will make things much worse. When we ID, we're simply changing what is already there. To add this new element, a new layer would have to be added. I for one would rather have more content than scars/tatooing myself. They haven't said it won't happen, it's just that it is a HYOOGE undertaking.
6. Working with other professions. In both the ID and Smuggler discussions, there was talk of having the two professions work together to "hide" a person, even for a temporary time. So, the Smugglers are pushing for us.
7. ID'ing VENDORS. The crowd went wild when this was brought up and the devs think it's good idea. they kinda chatted among themselves and there was a lot of nodding and note-taking. It will be difficult, but I feel we'll see it eventually. Mostly because the vendor "toon" isn't really an NPC, it's just another "skin" as it were, on a vendor.
8. The name change thing. There is a lot of good back and forth and mostly this is a Lucas Arts thing. If you had an ID who could turn all his guild into "suckmy___" or something, it would be bad. yah, there are a lot of bad things out there. Also, it would potentially cause issue with all the stuff at character creation, making it harder to to give newbies unique names that aren't a jumble of letters. If people can change their name at will, then you can imagine how that would be. Plus, the griefing aspect. HOWEVER, it was suggested they could add it to the "proposal" radial or such. You can have the option of changing your last name when you accept unity. The divorce aspect of that is more tricky, but the devs seemed to be much more open to it done that way. Hey, it's all in the way you approach it.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head for ID. Feel free to ask a question and I'll see if I remember an answer. Or clarify something I posted. I might not have been all that clear.
Well, I don't want to turn this thread into a name-change-discussion, so just a quick note about that: The problems and issues simply outweight the gain for the game here and that's why it will most likely not happen anytime soon, if ever. The devs will not start to display any kind of serial numbers visible in game, since it could be used for alot of bad things, too. So that's not an option either. In game the name of the player is the way how we identify each other and that will not change.
But I'm happy to hear that Sti-Fi did a great job at the Fan Fest and it's good the devs got something to chew on directly from the comunity, too. ![]()

You are so very correct.
I agree. Out of all the panelsI attendedit seemed that the Entertainer/ID one was the most positive. The Dev's really made clear their commitment to non-combat professions is sincere. They realize it is one of the ways this game is unique. Having the Lead Producer of Lucas Arts being an Entertainer cannot hurt.
The atmosphere of the forum was much more positive and the brainstorming was very good. Hopefully we will see some of these ideas become reality.

You are so very correct. And thank you! I was pleased as punch to find that the lead producer from Lucas Arts plays a MID. He understood our issues which was sooo totally cool.

. I just wonder when and under which "system" he mastered ID
I can't be sure...but I *think* the pre-publish 8.

Hey there gothywench. I remember having a good time at the entertainer forums. I walked away from both of them feeling very positive about the future of my character and SWG in general.
Out of all the forums, ours had the best dev/player ratio.
It was more like a conversation with the devs than a formal Q&A session.
EDIT: Oh and thank you very much for the notes.Message Edited by TomtheBitx on 06-07-2005 12:53 PM
Hey there! I felt the same way about it. I'm glad you enjoyed the notes and hope the compare to what you heard, too.
