I guess it can be acceptable if you use your imagination however it still doesn't make much sense, this will only cause more lag me thinks. They should have just added loads of new template features or say some kind of face paint that wears off to give the IDers more business. More hair styles and colours would have been your best bet though. My main complaint isn't on the idea of these floating thingys, but on the fact that as CJadefire pointed out it's just more eye candy trying to make us forget about the real problems like doing something about makeing the new droids more useful or the many other bugs that would make us twice as happy. I say no more new flashy content untill you fix the exsisting problems. There are a lot of things in this game that really make it feel like Star Wars, and make you think 'wow, that would be awesome!' but then you have to remind yourself 'oh wait that doesn'twork does it'

The problem with IDers is that people don't want their appearence changed every couple of days, it's not like our hair grows or we put on weight or anything, the only way I think you could get round it would be if you added loads of new features for apearence. True these thingys might be the answer but it's not really changing ones appearence that much, just some weird acessories to float above the head. A lot of the races look kind of stupid and/or gaumless, perhaps giving them some looks that doesn't restrict them to one or two hairstyles. I chose Twi'lek because I wouldn't be able to cope looking like a zombie (human or zabrak)Twi'lek, Mon Cals andRodians have loads of colouring options available. All other races suffera lotfrom image problems, there's no choice thus no originality, that's where they need to focustheir image enhancements. And as it has been said allready, make 'em good! because it won't help if they don't look cool. (I suggest more spikey hair!)

I just dont want to have my beautifull swg landscape destroyed. Im sure the first week or so every other person you see will have this huge Projection over their head... running around spamming it eveywhere.

Imagine Stepping outside the starport at Theed and all you see is these people spamming holo-emotes on top of the spammed sales pitches you always see blocking your view.

I dunno, I dont really know what to think about these new additions... In TH's post I kinda wanna think that he was trying to say that the emotes wont look that drastic.. I hope there will be things that are a little more meaningfull. Like he said... A tear (a single tear appear for a split second) A quick glimpse of a sad face (again, very quick and meaningfull) This wouldnt be AS bad, but I would like the option to filter them out. I just hope you dont see the kittens and things like that.

Also, Im not flaming anyone, cause this is all personal opinion... so dont take this the wrong way... but..... You say you want chirping birds over your head if your incaped??? What the heck??? This aint Looney Tunes... They got a Starwars based cartoon on Cartoon network and they still dont do stuff like that...

In contrast, I agree that just because something wasnt in the movies doesnt mean it cant be in the game.... But... Could it have been in the movies??? If you cant imagine it being in the moves... if it would have been completely out of place, then it shouldnt be in the game..

Just my two cents..

By the way: In responce to the person that commented on the personal light source... Thats a clientside user interface enhancement... no one else sees that but you... just like your waypoints... If you argue that the personal light source should be removed you should also argue that yourwaypoints are removed...

I applaud the devs none the less, more content is good... I could overlook the useless, bandwidth robbing, nonstarwarsy, vision hindering emotes if there was a way to filter it out...

5 credits say that modelling and texturing that new Skull hologram from scratch would have taken longer than tweaking a few new hairstyles from existing ones. =)

Pay up

Believe me, if we could have accomplished that, we certainly would have. We looked at adding streaks, making new styles, adding tattoos and the whole gamut of player requests. Even adding the glittery effect is pretty complicated in this engine. These holo-emotes are the first step to glittery effects and when we can add new hairstyles and such, we certainly will.

Well, you are getting your wish - they are taking Stat Migration ability away from everyone, except IDs that is. How is that for "a seriouse profession, not some silly joke"?

They ARE NOT taking away stat migration from people. They took away the ability for anyone to use the ID station to make their stat migration take 10 minutes. Your stats will still migrate normally. The only advantage an ID will have is that they can do it in 10 minutes.

It's a wonder more people don't die reading these forums, they read somethign and they explode about it and they arent even reading it right.

A) If you think that was an 'explosion', you don't know what the word means.

B) The patch note isseems a little vague as to what "functionality" is being revoked from the "general player base". I was not alone in that interpretation.

C) Got a link to where the devs give a more explicit statement about what they mean?

I have to say: I really like the "revamp".

The new menu is very nice and the 2 minutes wait time ist perfect to stop grinders That's the part I mostly like

And if SOE says we get more hairstyles/colors/etc. later, than I be satified. What now is done is really nice.

I just hope the "Change hairstyle and then wrong color" bug is fixed, too.

I actually just checked my own settings on this, since I don't ever remember receiving a newsletter. My email address is entered correctly, and I have the box checked to "receive SWG newsletter". But I have never once received a newsletter. I have had the form filled out for several months.

Can you check into this TH? I think something's broke.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news LadyLeala, but everything on this end is functioning correctly. Are you using a hotmail type of service? Some types of free email systems screen out the email as part of their anti-spam systems.

To remedy this, we'll have the newsletter archive for you.

I have the newsletter sent to my university email. It has never gone through. It's not being spam-filtered (university uses PureMessage which does not delete suspected spam, it only inserts a line into headers so I can filter it client-side), it's just not going through at all.

Also I never received any email notification when I was banned from the forums for "trolling", but when I applied for EQ2 beta those emails came through fine.

That reminds me... I'd better grind out ID on live quick while I have a chance.

Seriously,I'll be very interested to see how many people manage to make master ID after this publish. I tried IDing out for a little while and after a couple months I hadn't made it past the second box in the entertainer line. Can't even imagine what it would be like to actually master the profession the legitimate way; I just gave up on it rather than resorting to grinding. Maybe having the tents as a place to congregate will make it easier to find people to practice on, though...

Thunderheart stated that these holo-emotes are the first step towards bringing us the glittery effects and hairstyles we want. I think he completely missed the point. The holo-emotes should never have been a step at all. It's just a way of trying to appease the majority of players who are happy just to see the devs accomplish anything. Rather wasting thier time on this, they should devote it to something good....like giving us those new hair styels they claim are so difficult. Imagine how much sooner it could be done had you not let yourselves be side tracked.

You are my new hero, Frelyss. =) Sidetrack is a perfect description. I DO like the stuff shown in the pics here, but they ARE just a distraction. And we as a profession have been SUPER easy to gaslight & shunt away from demanding meaningful stuff with LASTING value for the profession. All of which I predicted in the first place, all of which is now being incontrovertably proven.

And hey...let's get a straight answer for once: can you or CAN'T you migrate stats on your own? Do ID'ers just make is faster, or are we gonna be THE ONLY way? And ANY wishy-washiness about giving a clear yes or no answer quicklywill be taken by all who have a brain as, "yes, you WILL need an ID'er, but we are hiding from the backlash of that decision."

Stat Migration- We need some clarification here.

  • Stat Migration: Image Designers now have the sole ability to migrate player stats faster than the previous default migration rates. The process will take 10 minutes and requires the Image Modification Booth located inside the ID tents. This functionality has been revoked from the general player base and now requires an Image Designer.

  • "Image Designers now have the sole ability to migrate player stats faster than the previous default migration rates."

You mean that I can still do it the old way, correct? Only the new improved faster way is done through and ID.

"This functionality has been revoked from the general player base and now requires an Image Designer. "

?Or do you meanthat I need an ID to do anything in regards to stat-migration?

I think it would be awesome to do the 10 minute change if I am running off to do some PvP and switch 'er back for PvE. If the only way to do this is through ID though,I don't think many will be very pleased considering that it can be very difficult to locate an ID and not to mention that it may create some static between the non-ID player base towards the ID's for taking away and integral part of the game and pawning it off as another time-sink/expense. I understand the need for time-sinks in MMOs but not ones where I sit around doing nothing searching and searching for an ID to no avail.

Given all the above and let's say that ID's are the onlyfacet forStat migration. I have come to the conclusion that this is a form of renewable income for our struggling ID's out there. This is great! I must pose one question though, why are these not player city buildings and why are these not terminals placed by ID's that actually generate money for the ID without having to be there?

The holo-motes are neat, but I cannot say that they they help my Star Wars Immersion. I want IDs to get more content but this is sort of a bone throw. Not to mention one hell of a killer on my immersion as someone spams the skull in my face as I am waiting for shuttle. Just my opinion.
