Maybe because I dont want to play a completely mindless game? And because this isnt MMORPG xyz, its called Star Wars, in case you missed that!

IF the devs need to put something in that in absolutely no way fits, the least to do is give an intelligent reason for it.. which would be what in this case? 'coz the skull looks so kewl!' ? Sorry thats just mindless..

I love reading the IDs replies to this thread. Has anyone else noticed that they added TERMINALS for image design. That means you DON'T NEED A PLAYER. Now if you want image design you just go to a terminal. That's a bad thing for ID players. lol. SOE is going backwards now.

omg.. lol

I'm an image designer. And I can tell you that my profession has NEVER been useless. Aside from the constant requests for a new look from friends and new people alike, I use it to constantly change my look. And as a master dancer who performs often, this skill is invaluble.

I looked at these new holo-emotes.....and I can tell you that this is NOT what I've been asking for. They look neat, but they have no place in the star wars universe. I see myself getting very tired, very quickly of seeing these, until they finaly stop being used except by people who either want to annoy others, or are just too lazy to have them changed.

I was waiting for new hair styles.....new colors...things that make image design look like a seriouse profession, not some silly joke.

Well, you are getting your wish - they are taking Stat Migration ability away from everyone, except IDs that is. How is that for "a seriouse profession, not some silly joke"?

They ARE NOT taking away stat migration from people. They took away the ability for anyone to use the ID station to make their stat migration take 10 minutes. Your stats will still migrate normally. The only advantage an ID will have is that they can do it in 10 minutes.

It's a wonder more people don't die reading these forums, they read somethign and they explode about it and they arent even reading it right.

/agree

Players would have been better off with more hairstyles, more tattoos, etc.

I really wish they'd add braided hairstyles, pony tales, and crewcuts for Wookiees (as well as be able to wear sungards)... and tattoos for humans and Zabraks.... etc. etc.... not the ghost of Porky Pig flying over our heads because "it looks cool."

I actually just checked my own settings on this, since I don't ever remember receiving a newsletter. My email address is entered correctly, and I have the box checked to "receive SWG newsletter". But I have never once received a newsletter. I have had the form filled out for several months.

Can you check into this TH? I think something's broke.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news LadyLeala, but everything on this end is functioning correctly. Are you using a hotmail type of service? Some types of free email systems screen out the email as part of their anti-spam systems.

To remedy this, we'll have the newsletter archive for you.

I have the same problem. I have *never* received the newsletter either. My email is correct, it is not a freebie account, thereare no filters, no firewalls, no anti-virus blocking it. It's busted and has never worked.

If you want to make the image designer profession useful, Make player characters' features decay just like vehicle and droid customization. For example, hair will become longer and/or messier looking, or skin tone becomes pale, etc. Then the image designers can have their tents filled with customers who need hair cuts or tanning booths treatments!

This isan excellentdescriptionof how Holo emotes could be used. They aresingle useand only exist for a brief moment.

Looks to me someone's been taking inspiration from FFXI, except shimmery magic butterfly wings in FFXI make a little bit more sense than do cat faces, bubbles, and skulls in Star Wars. And it's not just the lack of Star Warsy that bugs many. It's the fact that they're not particularly aesthetically pleasing and have more than a little bit of cheese to them.

Andare yousure you want to suggest that somethingbearing resemblance to wacky anime andPoke-you-know is "an excellent description" of a possible use of "holo emotes" in a Star Wars game?Hurr? I'm not sure how gaudy glowing models that jar a player from being immersed in Star Wars is especially "excellent", regardless of how expressive or neat for the sake of neat it might be.

We do want to add more tatoos, hairstyles, etc in the future. They can't be done currently because its a huge amount of modelling work. Every hairstyle has to have scalability for all appropriate races and tatoos are even more tricky since they are images that could be applied to any and every possible avatar configuration.

Welcome to game development, TH. Most everything: coding, artwork, modelling, is "tricky" to the masses and to someone who's unfamiliar with the process. Yet these sorts of things are a staple and done on a daily basis in the industry. Making sure a bitmap maps properly onto a model, and that the texture coordinates are assigned tomodel verticesin a similar fashion, regardless of race, build, height, and size, isn't altogether an arcane artform. This *is* what you pay your artists and codersfor, and one of their primary skill sets that they're supposed to excercise day in and day out.

And scaleable hairstyles aren't so overwhelmingly difficult, since there already exists a plethora of them... and any of them could be tweaked to produce new styles-- not to mention that there are only *two* races with hair: Zabrak and Human. And *none* of the current styles are shared between the two.

5 credits say that modelling and texturing that new Skull hologram from scratch would have taken longer than tweaking a few new hairstyles from existing ones. =)
