This is typical of many players' attitudes towards theentertainer professions. It's based on a complete misunderstanding of how commerce works. If I find an originalPicasso in my attic, do I say to myself "well, that cost me nothing so I'll sell it for$1 at a garage sale" or do I say "Hmmm. An original Picasso. I could sell this at auction and make millions"?

The cost of producing something has absolutely nothing to do with the selling price. The selling price is determined purely by the laws ofsupply and demand. In other words the market determines the price. The only difference between our service and that of a Droid Engineer is that a DE's overhead forces him to stop selling his goods if the market price for his finished product drops under his raw materials cost. Anyone who thinks that a DE (or any other profession that involves an overhead)should make more than an Image Designer simply because an ID has no costs has no clue about economics.

I think some players need to learn the basics of capitalism.

What gets me is that these same people think nothing of charging 10 cpu to 100 cpu for meat/hides/bones etc... stuff that has no real cost to harvest, just the right skills, time and effort... or they charge similar prices for high quality mined resources and as little as 2 cpu or 3 cpu for low quality mined resources even though it costs no more to harvest quality stuff than low quality stuff.

"Human Male: I like it.... so since you like it.... if I tack on another 10k would you do me here in the tent?"

Oh my God! Hehe, I tooplay a female character in the game. If that happened to me I'd be sorely tempted to say:

"Okay. Actually I'm sitting here stark nakedin front of my computer, big boy. Still want to do me?"

/pause 10 (for effect);

"You dorealise I'm a guy in real life, right?"

Probably wouldn't actually say it. It probably violates Sony ToS or something, and it could backfire if the guy was bisexual or something, but I'd be tempted.

Client: Can I have a stats migration?

Me: [Being in the tent with my title on] Sure. My prices for my ID things are in my profile.

Couple minute pause - Are they reading it?

Client: Ok

Stats migration ensues

Me: Okay, make sure you set your stats to how you want them to change (Ctrl C), and make sure to keep the window open for the entire time. The stats migration will take 10 minutes, k?

Client: Ok

2 minutes later

Client: Why is this taking so long??

Me: It takes 10 minutes. I know it seems like a long time.

Client: Can you make it go faster? I have things to do.

Me: I wish [Thinking: "Oh geez..this is going to be a longggg 10 minutes."

20 seconds remaining. Window suddenly closes.

Me: Nooooooo.

Client: Oops I closed the box.

Me: I told you not to.

Client: I forgot. Migrate me again.

OR

I'll be with a customer doing ID changes (not a stats migration..actual changes..yay) and some other person will come in the tent wanting stuff too and will send me a tell.

Them: Can you ID me?

Me: Yes, Im with a customer witha moment, I'll be with you after I finish.

45 seconds pass

Them: How much longer???

Me: I don't know. Until I finish the ID session with this customer.

Them: Can you give me a time amount??

Me: [Thinking: "Ugh..why do people ask this? Am I psychic?"] No. Im done when the customer says Im done. Probably in a couple minutes.

Them: Oh.

2 minutes pass

Them: Can you hurry??

#@(*#@ Like Im purposely being slow when I have a line?

OR

If someone knows about my alternate character andI'm currently playing on my non-ID character, luckily this is rare:

Them: Can you sign on your other character and stats migrate me?

And so many things said above I completely agree with. There are just so many things you hate to hear Customers say hehe.

Very true. I once askedsomeone who didn't want to payif they would charge me if I asked them to help me kill something (for a theme park or whatever). They say 'yes, of course'. Sorry, but how is that any different?

Okay, this one is kind of an egg on my face story…. I logged my Smuggler/Commando toon last night and got a tell from a friend asking if I could whip up some Injury/Wound Treatment clothing for him. Since he was the one who provided me all my tissues (free of charge, I might add) and he's generally a nice guy, I said sure and logged over. One custom fitting later, another friend asks if I can do something about his face, as he's "been hit by the ugly shuttle." A few facial tweaks later I'm getting a tell from an old customer who'd like a fur change; here's where the hate to hear/egg on my face comes in.

Customer: Can you fix my fur? [I had, at his request, made him a pink and black Wookiee, with wardrobe to (mostly) match] For some reason I'm just not comfortable with pink fur.

Me: Sure. I'm in [my player city] cantina. Swing by and I'll fix you up.

Last time I had helped him he asked to see all the patterns…twice. So I'm already groaning to myself over what he'd put me through this time. We looked at a couple colorations, then he asked for a pattern change, and again asked to see them all. This time I pointed him to Pani's wonderful site and he happilly toddled off to take a look. He returns:

Customer: Can I see the one with the dot over the eye?

Me: Got a number?

Customer: Just a second.

The Image Design session has been cancelled by the client.

Me: Ack! /image [change colorations back to how they were right before he cancelled]

He comes back and we settle on that pattern. We flip-flop the coloration and tweak his eye color and he seems to be happy.

Me: Is there anything else I can help you with?

Customer: Can you make my eyes a little bit bigger?

Me: Like that?

Customer Yes, that's great.

Me: Commit?

Customer: Just a minute.

At this point I'm thinking "Okay, he hasn't been a bad customer so far…but it's midnight, I'm tired, and what does he want now?!"

It turns out that he wanted to put the payment amount in the window. You see, I work based on tips, so I never state a price…he just wanted to make sure he paid me before I committed. /blush (I think it helps that I'm getting a rep for not doing migrations, at all, ever—I never get requests for them, only "real" Image Design…and I'm always tipped relatively well, for TestCenter.)

Aori, I also HATE being told to hurry! The first ID client who ever got on my bad side made this mistake, and learned the hard way that if you piss off one ID, you're much less likely to be able to find ANYONE who's willing to work on you. He was still sending me emails and tells a month or two later. LOL

I have the link to Pani's site in my bio. It's a huge timesaver. Of course, I also have "If I'm not wearing my title, don't ask me for ID... and if I'm not wearing my title, and you still ask me for work, it's not gonna be pretty." And no one pays a bit of attention to that. *shrug*

hehe I have her site in my bio.... I also have the following:

Stat Migration 10k

Holoemotes 5k for all 16

Single Changes by Tips

Attitude Adjustment 1k for each offense

I have your Black List bookmarked, but so far every name on it is from Bloodfin and I don't play on that server. Looking at it, it also occurred to me that, if it takes off the way it should, you might want to make a seperate page for each server and just link to the server pages from your main page.

The only ID's that have responded so far are from Bloodfin. If other servers do pick up on it I will make a page per server.

Oh that's simply too funny. I'll wager most of my customers wouldn't even know what it meant, though.

Thewt

Some do and some don't... the ones that don't seem to ask....and I gladly tell them.

For each and every stupid, rude, and vulgar thing they say to me, another ID, or another customer I will tack on 1k. Some ask if I'm serious and I tell them I'm as serious as a heart attack. I'm sick of the bull**edit**. I do not like being groped, talked down to, etc... and either they will act civilized or they won't get ID work from me or any other ID I know. The ones on Bloodfin have banned together and we are /addignoring every person who commits the previously mentioned offenses.

Granted, it seems to be worse on Bloodfin than a lot of servers. This is due to it being the "unofficial pvp server". You get a lot of the idiots and kids there. If you read my Black List Site you can see just a few of the things that have happened. It's pathetic.
