I believe last year not everyone got their gift who was supposed to. So the next day they gave everyone one. Which is why those who did got one had 2.

BTW --

I keep my stance on developers having an ingame celebration of RL holidays for the fun of it.

But concerning the Star Warsy feeling we all ask for... With all the Jedi running around, I think that Star Warsy feeling was lost a long time ago. Or not so much the feeling of the game being SW like but definatly a screwed up timeline. A Christmas gift won't hurt any.

And with CMs and their mind poisons... How Star Warsy is that? In the movies everyone ran around with pistols and carbines, never seen no one throwing any poison.

For those who can not accept a "break" from the SW feeling of the game to enjoy a celebration of a RL holiday on a single day... Sad. Very.

I think we could use some more holiday festivites from the devs, but there is a lot going on to, I realize this.

LOL...

And getting a Christmas tree in UO was VERY Ultima Onlineish... Right?

And towns being decorated for Christmas in Vana'diel and taking part in an Easter egg is VERY Final Fantasyish... Right?

And pumpikin launchers on Earth and Beyond is SOOOO spacey... Right?

And the Santa suited orcs in Everquest was EXTREMELY Everquesty.. Right?

No, it's not.

But you are missing the point, it is fun and enjoyable. It's a little change to the game for one day which everyone can take part in and have fun with.

Nothing wrong with it.

thats right none of that gamish stuff is, you should be playing the game or have your christmas for real.put more effort in the real one... therefore quite yer cryin.

actually enough torturing the dead of brain.
personally dont care if there is a christmas in game or not. why? Its just a game. This is an escapism.
I know where the dividing line is. hence why im dancing all along this here fence.

If the devs wanna give me another tire popper they call art? grand, and thanks.
If not i do not lose sleep over it, nor take it as a personal insult.
If you wanna celebrate it in game, knock yourself out.
If you do not, knock yourself out.
Ultimately, WHO CARES, tis a gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameee.
The sooner you grasp the concept the happier you will be.

If this is your biggest worry in life, congratulations on such a cushy life.
The rest of us have sons and daughters fighting a war, hoping they get a gift that counts and pray they make it back intact.
others have sick family members, some near death that wish they could have them back in full health.and i hope their wish is the gift they get.
Others yet missing arms that would love a shot at playing a game such as this because they are star wars fans and can only dream to be a small part of it. i hope they get their gift to have such an abilty.

I wish the blind to see,
The deaf to hear,
The mute to talk,
Those that cannot stand, to run.
Those with cancer to be healed.
Wives to be with husbands "an vice versa" they aren't sure they will ever see again.
Moms and dads to see their child that was born while they were away.
I do sincerly hope for those that have a day, week, month left to live, that it becomes the best time of their lives, all of you shall be sorely missed.

THAT ^ is infinitly more important, than to worry about a fake present, to some selfcentered moron, in a "game".
Retune your priorites for they are very much, screwed up.

Two (or a dozen) wrongs do not make a right.

Look, it's really simple - real life holidays with real life labels should not be in SWG, because SWG takes place in a world that does not have these same traditions.

Christmas didn't exist a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, and adding a specific holiday to the game that relates to a secular OR religious real life event isn't just in bad taste (as not everyone is of that denomination and assuming that is simply ego-centric) but simply unneccesary and uncreative.

Now, if they want to invent STAR WARS themed holidays, as they have here, to coincide with real life holidays, that's all fine and dandy. I'm not a PC person, far from it, but this is the best soloution for everyone - especially if you truly believe in the "spirit" of the Holidays.

Stop taking this as such an affront to yourself - SOE isn't trying to wipe out Christianity. Religion is a personal thing, and SOE should have nothing to do with promoting it either way. They have added a Holiday at the same time, just actually took the initiative to make it something special on it's own for those people who do not celebrate that specific holiday. It may surprise you - but the majority of the world does NOT celebrate Christmas, and it makes no sense to force it down everyone else's throat. Now with offical releases in Europe and Japan, SWG is no longer an American-centric game (not that all Americans even celebrate secular Christmas, mind you).

You said it's "very sad" that people don't want the offical Christmas holiday in-game, for several reasons (the fact that it simply does not exist in Star Wars, and that not everyone celebrates it); I think it's very sad that you are so attached to a label and your myopic view that you can't see that Life Day is the best of both worlds - a Star Wars event for everyone (not just Christians) to enjoy, which embodies the sprit of the religious holiday without cramming it down everyones throat.

to correct that sig audio
Rpg = to use ones imagination to get away from RL to be that which you are not in RL.
has nothing to do with skill based or twitch based games actually.
RPG= "Role Playing" game.

I role play in a twitch based game quite often.

Off topic, but it's just not true.

In GAMING terms, RPG means a skill-based system, plain and simple. Always has. Pen and paper, or video game, it's a system based on skills and dice rolls (virtual or real). Paper Mario - RPG. Mario 64 - twitch based. See why one is an RPG and one isn't?

It's just a term to describe a type of game, not the behavior you engage in while playing it. Role-talking (i.e. inventing things that aren't there, "pretending") is another concept entirely. In other connotations that can be refered to as "role playing", but video games are never directed at pretending - otherwise what's the point of doing anything beyond a chat room if it's all about pretend?

It's funny, but people seem to think I'm anti-role talking. I'm not. It's blissfully easy in SWG- just don't talk about RL in spatial, or if you do, talk about it in context of the Star Wars universe. I think it's quite fun. However, people tend to use it as an excuse for game systems not working or as a replacement for in-game mechanics which just isn't valid to people that are here to play a game first and foremost. I've said it 100 times...if I was just looking to chat and pretend I'd be over at Yahoo! chat - it's free!

I think the best christmas present anyone here can ask fo if you guys chase down that pesky CTD problem that has been around as of late.

Thanks - I thought everyone should know and the reality is that everyone is doing things like you describe - - very insightful of you!

Last year if i remember correctly everyone was given a holocron, which was one of the major reasons the economy went to downunder for lack of a better word, Is that one of the reasons were not going to get a similar gift?

Gee, ya think?

Once burned, twice shy... holocrons were an experiment with some nasty side effects, and just giving away life day orbs last year led to a lot of mayors just selling them (so totally not cool). So the team put this together, so you can do something, which isn't all that hard to do, and get a gift, which is actually pretty cool.

I doubt they'll ever give something away as a gift that has potentially game-changing effects ever again; they learned that lesson the hard, ugly way.

That's VERY true. And for those of us (like myself) who last year were either not part of a city or part of a small outpost. Well, we were overlooked in the grand sceme of things. Granted, I loved the idea of the mayors having gifts to pass out and all, and MANY did what they were supposed to do with them. Non-the-less, I got the short end of the lightsaber on that deal last year and many, many others did as well.

Kudos to the dev team for giving us a Life Day gift that we have to activle participate in the game's content to earn! Anyone can do it, but not everyone will.

Considering the number of SWG accounts that will be expiring on or about 25-Dec-2004, they're probably not very jolly in Jollyville, so you can see whythe whim (and it was a whim) of Xmas presents didn't manifest itself this year.

Still, it's yet another example (as if we needed one) of Verant/SOE getting the little things wrong, even as they post deja-vu press releases promising to get more and more big things right this year, by golly.

Star Wars takes place in a distant galaxy, but SWG is played (and paid for) in this one, by regular humans who do celebrate the holidays. A holiday gift of some kind would just be smart player relations. Database worries are easily addressed by making it a /claim item so that only active redpills, er, I mean logged-in players, create an object.

They made it a quest this year because, let's face it, they're Quest Obsessed these days. I'm waiting for the Housing Revamp where you have to do a Quest to open the door of your house when you want to sit down and put your feet up.

Still, as long as Life Day lives, the SW Holiday Special lives - and that's worth it!! LOL

One final note - beware of"athiests" who can't spell the word!

I think people are drawing the wrong conclusion from last year's free Holocrons. We didn't get them out of holiday generosity, they were given out to deflate the madness a little when half the galaxy population was camping Dantooine with their graul maulers.

We also got art. This year, talk to some Wookiees and you get art! Personally I like that this year it didn't just magically appear in my inventory. Thanks devs!

And yes the quest wasn't much: /coverse with four NPCs and get your prize. But it's your own fault if you just went there, got your lewt, and left. You have a steady stream of player traffic to two remote spots on Yavin and Endor. This has kicked up the spawn rates like crazy. The hunting has been great, there are pickup groups clearing out dangerous creatures around the huts, and I must have dropped 80 stormtroopers the other day while constantly hiding from non-Rebels who might be overt. Hello, stuff's going on.
