Thread: Who else hates the new way items are categorized?

The new sorting process is a tremendous advance over the old method, thank you. I hated having to constantly switch to the detailed view, sort by name, then sort by type (to giveme name-within-type) and then switching back to the icon view just to keep things in the icon view organized. It seems to me that mostly all you have done is to finally make the selected sort order stick.

If you will, however, be revisiting this UI capability in the near future may I suggest the following (re-stating here some good thinking from earlier messages and adding a new "Automatic" option as discussed below).

Sort Inventory by:

[ ] Name

[ ] Name Within Type

[ ] No Sorting, leave as placed (allows for player drag-and-drop organization, new things automatically go at the end)

Toggled Options:

[ ] Equipped Items at Top (basically make them a "special type" that sorts them to the top)

[ ] Automatically re-sort new items (as opposed to leaving them at the end)

This last option (which I think is actually an original idea) would require the existance of a "Re-sort" keystroke combination which the player could use to invoke their selected sorting method. I think this would be the best option in that it would allow us to combine the best of these various sorting methods. For the type "A" playerthat want everything to be ordered at all times (raises own hand) the "Automatic" sorting could be checked. As things come into the inventory they are put into there rightful place. For those that like to see what loot, resources, and traded items have just been received, without the "Automatic" sorting option checked the items would go to the bottom of the inventory. When things get a bit messy a quick keystroke will clean them up again.

the whole inventory system is bad... cant multiple select items... cant categorize as you see fit... when lagging, cant do anything at all...

wholesale changes needed.....

How about a simple suggestion to Management to STOP SQUANDERING RESOURCES on NONESSENTIAL UPDATES/IMPROVEMENTS until the CORE GAME IS FIXED AND FUNCTIONING PROPERLY!

Equipped items at top - most recent items at bottom - ordered the way we place them for inbetween which would be good by type - AND - not re-arranging themselves when we travel or log in and out!!!!

Thats my constructive suggestion for inventory.

My most constructive one would be to try and fix all the broken things first

Some are still there from beta.

I'm sure they are,You have to consider that there is a break down there, just like any other big game company. With a game like this you would have to expect this. You may have a few programmers that handle combat, They know everything about it. And they are the ones working on that, i.e. combat revamp, etc. Then, you may have another person that works on the User Interface, which is where you get updates like this one. You can't very will expect any one person to know every bit of code for the entire game. It just isn't possible. So you see little updates come out all the time that have nothing to do with the "major issues" This is quite normal.

Is the inventory sort an all or none type thing? Would it be possible to have the sort only apply to current inventory items?, i.e. looted/newly added inventoryitems stay at the bottom of the inventory list until you choose a sort option again. Seems to me that would be the best of both worlds....

What has been NORMAL since beta is thePERSISTENCEof GAMEBREAKING BUGS. Instead of annoying 95% of the customer base by COMPLETELY CHANGINGTHE CODEof the basic ITEM INTERFACE, when most of these features were ALREADY AVAILABLE WITH CHANGE VIEW,

...HOW ABOUT ADDRESSING THE GIMPED GROUND GAME AND NONEXISTENT GCW.

THIS IS HORRIFIC MISMANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES.

PERIOD.

Asking a coder who is responsible for coding the user interface to code GCW content is like asking an auto mechanic to build you a house. Period. It is not mismanagement of anything.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Suggestions:

1) Give us a paper doll view for our characters and let us drag/drop items on the equippable slots. The paper doll model would apparently have to be different per species. It would be the most convenient way of dealing with equipment on our characters and it would be cool if typical features such as colorization of items was used to indicate that you can't wear a backpack and a belt (or was it bandolier? .. doesn't matter you get the point)at the same time. You could include an option to either use the paper doll or the old view or a combo of both (i.e. you would see the highlighted items in your inventory and the paper doll at the same time .. which would be my personal top choice).

2) Make the inventory a grid of 60 slots so that we can arrange our items any way we like. Why do we need to have any way of auto-sorting at all? It's our inventory so let us deal with it. Feel free to include auto-sort options for maximum convenience but default should be that we can arrange stuff any way we like. Slots would make this most convenient. The current free-form inventory has never really appealed to me and it's pretty uncommon in games, esp (MMO)RPGs.
