Thread: Who else hates the new way items are categorized?

Here's some constructive suggestions:

Fix the bugs in the game before addressing uneeded changes.

There are some crucial game breaking bugs and many non-crucial bugs that have been allowed to linger for far too long. There's a history of breaks introduced by patch code that are never ever fixed.

Ground based group system messages

Smuggler's tools

Chat channels

Nightsister Armor Bicep R (tusken helms came back, why not these?)

and so on, and so on.

Come on. The person or group responsible for the inventory change could well have been addressing any number of bugs reported by the community. I simply cannot understand why the inventory thing took higher priority.

I like the idea, but perhaps a few more categories need to be added to the list view so you can better sort the inventory for your needs. THere should be one for equipped or not to get all your armor and weapons together. THere also needs to be a way to view the schematic numbers in your datapad for macro purposes. Adding a viewable number would be better than going back to the way it was previously, sorted by an invisible number, since you can find what you want right away. Finally, there probably should be a way to have your new items (crafted and looted) show at the bottom of the inventory so you know what you got or made.

Heya folks,
After the holidays the team will be reevaluating the inventory sort. We totally get that you guys are not happy with some of these changes and we will find a happy resolution. Thank you for your feedback. =) Feel free to continue posting your constructive feedback on the change and we will get the ball in motion after the holidays.

It's nice that the game tries to maintain something... however, the old method, where new items would drop to the bottom of the inventory was very convinent for loot, and crafting items.

Now, when you look in your inventory, everything is (by default) alphabetical, which is not that convienent. Neither is sorting it by icon, or by type.

To Sum it up....

1) Maintaining a user sort is good.

2) There are no sorting options which are are truely viable sorts for any sort of organization.

I really wish we could multiple select, either ctrl+click and then drag all selected into my backpack or something like that.

Not a fan of this update. Should be an option to "opt out" of the new change

The problem with the new change, is that we usually don't want our inventory to be impacted by sort cause we need to see whats been added to it, such as JTL or ground loot, trades, etc.

Otherwise, for backpacks, structure bags, chests, etc., I think the new save sort is a fantastic addition, since the only things that go in these items are items we put in them ourselves. Maybe there should be a box in the tools interface for "Save Sort Options (On/Off)," buthave that apply to everything except personal on-player inventory.

i really dont like it, but the easy fix would be: instead of "you have completely looted..."(even though i do love the suspense of HOPING for a good loot(not likely), just put "you have looted XXX". could help, but id rather see it back the way it was before as i am a loot hunter for the most part

Gladthere is already an active thread on this. I was starting to think I was the only one...

Anyway I'll echo my dislike of the current system and offer what I hope is a simple solution.

Ok basically you have detail view and icon view. In detail view you could alwayssort by name, icon, etc. As long as you stayed in icon view the inventory window stayed more or less static, equipped items on top and new items added as aquired. That's how it was prior to whatever publish changed it.

Now it autosorts in either view and that sort "state" holds across each view, at least after you've manually sorted in detail view. I don't know if the invetory sortchoice holds across sessions (or if that is a client or server side setting but hey, your the Devs ).

OK, so how do you hit that middle and satisfy both? Simple:

  • Don't Autosort the icon view, leave it stagnant until changed via a manual resort in detail view. (as before)

  • Allow "equipped items" to be "always on top" via an option, either in the window itself or in the regular interface options ("on" by default please). (new)

  • When in icon view, simply add new items to the bottom until manually resorted in the detail view. (as before)

I hope that made sense. I don't really know what issue this change was attempting to address. For me personally the biggest gripe is the auto-sort so if nothing else, get rid of that and I'll at least be content.

Sometimes things are easier than we all think.... I hated the new inventory as well....... That was till I found this link.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=csystems&message.id=47902&highlight=inventory#M47902

All it said is this:

Open up your inventory.

Click on "change view".

Click on the "volume" tab. (top of the last column)

Click on "change view" again.

Ta-da! You now have an inventory that behaves exactly like it did before 11.5.

Update: It seems that this works best if you click on "Name" before clicking on "Volume." Also, you usually have to log out after you do this. When you log back in, the backpack will behave 'normally'.

Now here I need to give props to Starcloud, community advisor for the originalpost.

Hopefully this will allow this will help. I know I tried it last night & loved it.

It should be a simple matter....

  1. Worn items should migrate to the top

  2. Inventory should be sortable

I assume that the current way(s) that inventory is/are done is set up because of some programming need, but can you tell us if its that difficult to set up containers with slots that items can be placed in? I assume having these slots would be more memory intensive since the game would have to remember what was in each slot...

Okay, I think I just answered my own question
