Single person Star Destroyers are never going to happen. It takes a crew of at least 1300 to just get it to move, let alone survive in combat.

One thing that I would love would be a sepperate pilot profession that would require a completely different type of skill point set. Keep the regular 250 skill points (or perhaps a little more) for ground-based skills, and add in a new skill point set completely set aside for space based professions. There could be a few seperate new professions that deal completely and exclusively with space. One could be a base prof of generic Pilot, with two offshoots into specialized professions (like we have now) of Freighter Pilot and Fighter Pilot. Another could be Spaceship Mechanic, this profession would be able to repair ships during flight, and while docked (Think Han Solo and Chewbacca) with an advanced prof of Spaceship Engeneer which would have a part in building the spaceships (which shouldn't be able to be built by hand, they should require a new type of factory that Archetects could build)

It's nice to be wanted, even if it is 'Dead or Alive'

"Facing an opponent armed with ranged weapons, high-level abilities enable him or her to evade blaster fire and close in quickly, bringing his or her enemy swiftly to the ground."

Heh, it's nice to see people agreeing that star destroyers would be way to big. This ideas are great! I think at one point they said there would be a few new professions based on ships. (no idea where I heard this now ) So here's the ideas I picked up while reading this thread just as a summary:

Big ships!

Guild owned ships.

A lot of people want Star Destroyers.

A lot of people have said that Star Destroyers would be impossible for players (including me)

PEOPLE WANT TO WALK AROUND THEIR SHIPS DOCK AND IN-FLIGHT!

Customizing ships is another big issue.

I think this has only beened mentioned once and in a sentence advertising another point but: Docking in space!

Dockable space stations w/ bazaars, vendors, and whatever methog we will have as an option for repairing our ships.

I'm very tired right now and this post was made mainly in the hopes that if a Dev comes by they'll have a place to look. Please feel free to corret me/add to the list.

I think it would be really cool to see some Imperial docks, I.E. Emperor's Retreat they have that one ship, they should have bases that have ship docks, where you can get on a Tie fighter, or transport ship, and take it to a Star Destroyer, going on a Star Destroyer would be sweet!! i also think it would be cool (obviously not right now where the game is heading) but when the time comes, to be able to go to the Death Star. Adding this aspect would be so sweet.

Star Destroyers should basically be Imperial "bases" ... holding position over a planet and allowing imps to dock and use it as a home away from home ... perhaps using faction points to get quarters on board the star destroyer.

although since they are so big, you'd have to use "security clearance" as an excuse not to build the entire interior.

of course a fleet of rebel transports and fighters should be allowed to attack it and destroy it and all within it.

This would mean you'd have to pay insurance on your quarters to get money back if the ship is destroyed .. or perhaps when the replacement Star Destroyer comes, it could have the same room assigned to you but with some decay or resource loss on the contents.

I have to agree that one person should not be able to own a stardestroyer, however some of the medium-large guilds should be able to pony up the faction points to get one. ditto for the rebel guilds if we start working together. while we would like this game to be as starwarsy as possible we have to remember it is a game, that said i could easily see a guild buying, running and fighting with a stardestroyer.

For an example of how it could be done look at battlefield 1942, a battleship has a crew in the thousands but if you devide the work up and have some of the weapons tied together then a small number could run it. one person controling direction, speed and the foward guns, another running the port antifighter weapons, starboard antifighter, for and afte capitol weapons, and another running the npc controlled fighters would all be feasible. add in a few engineers repairing the damage done and it can be done.

of course sd's should not be a dime a dozen, making them incredibly expensive and unrepairable (similiar to at-st's i believe), or expensive to repairwould keep their numbers in check.

someone said that the rebs were flying imperial x-wings, that is only partialy correct the design team was originaly designing it for the empire but several key members defected to the rebelion taking the plans with them and tainting the design in the eyes of the empire. the design team members who remained then attempted to make ammends with the howlrunner design wich was no where near as succesful.

keep posting the devs will take note of this thread and while our voices may not be listened to atleast the ideas are outhere in the light for all to see

Some of the more mentioned items, in no particular order.

1) The ability to walk around on the ships and customize the interior as though it were like a house in space. Travel between planets could take time (between 5-8 minutes, something within reason, depending on the class of hyperdrive) and people could relax and interact while waiting to arrive, possibly playing games like Sabacc and Holochess.

2) Space outposts and space stations that have no association to any planet, but where you can dock and resupply.

3) CUSTOMIZABILITY!!!- possibly the most mentioned item, we want to be able to customize our ships. In a nutshell, we want the ships to be like stock cars. You take the basic model of a ship, and you buy better components to replace the stock ones. Things like hull shields, energy shields, maneuvering jets (for handling), subspace engines, hyperdrives, and weapons should all be upgradeable.

4) Larger ships should be able to hold more people. Freighters like the YT-1300 and the YT-2400 should be able to carry passengers. Also, certain large ships should require a crew in order to operate.

5) A new, piloting-based proffession.

Joystick support should be included. (I didn't put this above, because it is my personal stance, not a majority oppinion)

SMUGGLERS!!!

Common devs, you know this is where the smuggler proffession could (and should) really shine. There are some great posts on the Smuggler boards with ideas on things you can do.

Hey everybody, I started a thread on ideas for the space expansion, and I wanted everyone here to post what you wanted to see for the Smuggler profession when it comes out.

The thread is:

now what i am hoping for is that the SE will help out droid enigeers. we need some loving from the devs. give us things that are need in the making of ships so when i can sell things and not be broke anymore.
