What we know......

The SE will be:

* Twitch

* "Point and shoot"

* "Arcade action-like"

* Joystick compatible

* No atmospheric flight

--------------------

The devs said there will likely be a separate pool of skill points that can only be used for the new professions. In my opinion, we should always be stuck on 250, but it's not my baby.

The video is on the SWG Stratics website (Video Gallery - Celebrations Video - SE footage is about 10 minutes into it)

As of now if WILL be released in 2004, past that, it's anyone's guess. And, one thing I'd like to bring up is concerning how we will get our ships. First off, it's a player profession, bad idea... Think about it, you got one profession controlling the market, look at weaponsmiths and armorsmiths at launch. Everything was ungodly expensive at the time, and they are still multi-millionaires. I know that SWG has prided itself on being a cmopletely player driven economy, but it might be time to rethink that for spacecraft. The last thing I want to do is spend $30-50 on an expansion pack (I have two accounts btw, mulitply that by two) then come home and pay somwe schmuck 6 million credits for a Headhunter just so I can utilize the 60 bucks I just spent. Definately not something I look forward to when I think of SE.

Best idea I've seen is on this thread bygiving the crafting professions schematics of PARTS of ships. I don't know, maybe have an NPC assemble those parts. But having to rely on one class to be able to use the money I just spent does not really get me going about SE. I don't know though, I'm not a dev or an economist, I don't do this for a living so I could be wrong, but I see people charging INSANE amounts for spacecraft.

Perhaps when you buy SE, you get a very slow, very weak ship, like the goggles with the Special Edition SWG. From there you can upgrade, but you wouldn't be DEPENDANT upon other players to use Space Expansion.

Either way, it's something I've thought and worried about in the past, having to pay money for SE then having to pay a good deal of credits to a player. Makes me nervous. And I twitch.

We definately need to be able to walk around our ships, as well as customize them. I think PC owned Star Destroyers are a bit extreme, maybe a Carrack Cruiser for Imperials, Blockade Runners for Rebels, and Nebulon Frigates for all sides. Perhaps Star Destroyers and MC80s would function as starbases, likeinFreelancer.

I would definately like to see ship crews, even if they're only NPCs (there are a lot of anti-social people in SWG, and for those people, gunners and co-pilots would be hard to come by). I agree that simpler space vehicles should be sold by NPC vendors, or be easier to produce (remember, Luke bought his X-34 for 2400 credits, and in SWG they go for about 10,000.). A pilot class would be needed to fly more advanced ships, and a new Vehicle Engineer elite class should be added.

Just my 2 cents.

I hope its going to take more then one profession to craft a ship.

Like one to make the different types of engines and hyperdrives,

One to make the different types of weapons,

One to make the different types of armor and shieldings, and

One to make the different types of hulls and piece it all together.

That to me would provide players a reason to work together making stuff and not allow a single person to be able to craft the whole ship by his/her self.

I hope the combat system is more like the ground based system except you move automatically. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge fan of X-Wing, I even own the original copy. But for the issue of lag difference between players, you might be shooting at something that no longer there. Althought I would love the complexity of space flight to be realistic so to speak. Like taking a couple of minute to punch the hyperdrive coordinate and calculating vectors, and while in hyperspace take some time to chill with your friends. And while in subspace, using the nav computer to auto-pilot new courses, adjusting shield, engine and weapon power, sending docking clearance, sending codes to Imperial capital ships to be able to pass, doing the occasoinal in space repairs, getting the ship fueled, engage the orbital thrusters. And for take off, i would like to send takeoff cleareance, engange the thrusters, do the cool liftoff spin and then engage the main thruster. Even though I would love to decorate my ship in my own space fairing apartment, what would happen if it was destroyed in space. Ships shouldnt be player built, since players would over-charge, they should off teh shelf at npc vendors but players should craft upgrades to them. New hyperdrives, subspace engines, entertainment, communications, stolen clearance codes(which would expire), new weapons, cloaking devices(only for large ships), new shields, new armor, new power supply, fuel, new sensors, customization kits.

please oh please don't let there be 100's of millenium falcons or outriders flying about, that would ruin everything.

Ship customization - a name registry, just like the player naming rules. no one can name there ship Slave I or the millenium falcon etc. colors would be cool, but realistic colors, i would also cry if i saw a pink Star destroyer. a sigil or icon on the side of my ship would be kewl. players could create a guild or company logo, i think that would be sweet. the only space flight game i've played on PC was freelancer the controls are very excellent in that game.

Walking within a ship would be sweet, picking up cargo and stuff, would be killer.

Ship building - Should involve architects, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths and DE's.

i hope that with teh expansion pack we get to choose like a basic ship ie, simple combat class, simple cargo class, etc like that. just until crafters make the better ships. who would wanna get SE and then have to wait to buy a ship which im sure will be disgustingly pricey.

i know the devs are working hard to balance the combat systems and everything but i wish they would release some info about SE. ever since vehicles its been a growing topic.

This is all great stuff, and i think that the idea of putting logos on the ships has a lot of potential. It would make customability to the infinite level.

The one thing i strongly agree with is that we start out with a basic ship when we buy the SE, because I want to buy the SE but in the game I wouldn't be able to buy one because i'm a poor guy with only 18k in the bank. What's the use of buying the SE if you can't use it?

This said, they need to release this kind of vital information soon, so people like me no wether we should buy it when it comes out or if we should wait until we save up enough money.

from what i've read the se is supposed to include new races and planets, odds are there will be a few other goodies as well so they will probably make us buy the ships ingame.

as for the "things we know" how often have the things we know turned out false? if the devs read this it is important that they know exactly what we want, otherwise we may very well end up with a horribly borring system of space combat *cough*hologrinding*cough*

plz everyone, we all have opinions so try not to nock ppl for saying theirs they have as much right as you do.

very good stuff from everyone hopefuly we arent getting our hopes up to much lol

AFrontier: Elite II style space trading system would be good. I've not given it much thought, but atm I don't see away for the goods that get traded to be player goods. A step in the right direction would be Transportation Tax on stacks of goods of over 1000units, effective as soon as the SE launches. In order to transport large amounts of resources, with paying alot,a player would need to use their own ship.
