Thread: Christmas Gift from SOE

After playing EQ2 and WoW... SWG is the only MMORPG on the market that appeals to me in terms of game-play.

I enjoy the game but there are many things that are not perfect which is why I come onto these forums and voice my opinion. If I do not post my opinion on the game for the developers to see, how can I be upset about it?

People who do not vote in elections have no right to get upset. When I agree or disagree with something I will voice my opinion so I then know I done all in my power.

If I dislike SWG I wouldn't take the time to voice my opinion as I wouldn't care then. But the fact is I do care as I enjoy the game.

After last years unimaginitive Christmas gift I was really looking forward to a real one. Knowing that a real Christmas gift or even a New Years gift won't be happening, I will be sure to let those interested know my concern.

BTW -- I really dislike people like you who believe that making suggestions and voicing a disagreement with the developers means they can not possible enjoy the game at all. If people didn't make suggestions or show their disagreements nothing would get done. Why do you think business pay people to take surveys? I even got a survey in the mail from SWG asking my opinion which would enter my name into a raffle. But even without the raffle, which I don't put too much hope on (lol), I would fill out the survey as I enjoy SWG and want to see it better cater to my standard to keep me enjoyed. And UO has set my standards for MMORPGs.

I mean, even surveys that I get paid for... I don't do them if I don't care for the product. At the mall I get asked to take surveys all the time for money but I never do because I don't care for the product. Same with focus groups. Only focus group I been to was one for Sim City, got paid $100 and able to voice my opinion on the game. And I went because I enjoy the game and wanted to let them know what I would like to see done in the future.

Last year... the developers gave us an item that has been ingame and reachable by everyone as a "present." That was there fault. In fact, holocrons shouldn't have been ingame from the start.

And look at UO... There is no trouble with their economy there because they give people snowballs to throw at each other. Also, UO gives rewards to players for buying expansion and pre orders that are tradable, so people can use them or sell them. As where with SWG everything is non-tradeable, which is stupid. If I knew the goggles were gonna be non-tradeable I never would've bought the CE.

And no, this is not overreacting. The developers barely acknowledging Christmas this year would mean an even less acknowledgement next year. It is enough they do not acknowledge Easter or Halloween or any other RL holiday that could bring an extra level of enjoyment to the game for that special occasion which every other MMORPG does.

Well IMO they were already busy with JTL and the JEDI revamp and didnt have time to do those holidays. When the CB comes out and the new staff fixes the small annoying bugs and the large bad bugs are gone then I beleve they will do more holiday events and gifts. To be blunt they have more to do ATM then make little decorationsand holiday gifts. Life day was fun and something different (although if you ever say the holiday special you might not be so ond of life day )

Ternel: BTW -- I hope you are right.

FFXI is stabilized so they have time to go through all the holiday celebrations year round. But UO did it and so did EB with an agenda to fulfill. But seeing how the developers for SWG are a bit slow and uncreative, to the point where they have to bring in MORE developers, that reason could very well be why.

Well, hoping next year isn't a disappointment! Granted there is a next year, everything is riding on that combat rebalance.

Well, I'm sorry you dislike me. Too bad you don't know me. Seems like such an insignificant thing to dislike a person over. However, it seems that you like to make mountains out of mole hills, so this doesn't surprise me.

For the record, I never said you can't voice your opinion. Go back to the first page of this thread, and guess what? You'll find a post where you see that I tell people that they should continue to voice their opinions. So, before you go accusing me of supressing your right to voice your opinion, perhaps you should get your facts straight.

I find it interesting that you say that WoW and other games don't interest you, when those are the games you are considering leaving this for. You seem to be a MMORPG game fan first and a Star Wars fan second.

Hey, great, you like holiday events. Thats wonderful. I like them too. However, the fact that the Devs choose not to do much for them really doesn't color my opinion about the rest of the game. You seem to think it speaks volumes about the 20 new people they hired and the ability of the game to be fun in the future. Seems like two different topics to me.

As far as the whole saying Christmas thing in game goes, I'd imagine what the devs did was prohibit us from saying "Christ" so that people wouldn't be using the name in vain and offending Christians, such as myself. Just so happens, this means we can't say Christmas. You know what, big deal. I can still say Happy Holidays, and I can say Merry X-Mas if really want to. In fact, if I do say Merry @#$%&mas to someone, chances are they know what I am saying. Somehow, this doesn't ruin the fun for me.

In closing: this topic bores me. Feel free to respond, but I'm done.

There is a Christmas gift from the developers, it just requires a half an hour of gametime to get instead of sitting on your ass. This does a few things. One, it gives you a story beyond yay there's a popular holiday coming up so I get free stuff and two, all the characters that stopped playing but aren't purged yet don't get a few extra things to clog the database. I mean you guys do know about the lifeday paintings/robe/orb...right? I mean there are a few posts about them just about everywhere.

Well what if I got an orb but still got mine from last christmas. Would that be equal to getting coal in my stocking?

Several gifts are possible, and the devs said that you can always trade these gifts. Like, If you were on Corbantis, i'd happily trade my Chewy painting for your second Life Day Orb. Besides, it's a gift. say thanbk you and then later try to return it quietly...How would you like giving someone a gift, only to have them yell at you that this is NOT what you want, right in front of them? Thats just Grinchy...

___________________________________________________________________

...Last year we all got holos plus the wookiee life day gifts.

We all got holos automatically (i think to avoid all thefake holos that were being sold as real ones at the time. On a rebel quest, an ornamental non-functional Holocron was being farmed...and soldas functional ones!),and the Life Day orbs were given to PA halls to give out as gifts.

Problem number one (and not the devs fault)...most people are greedy! A lot of people hoarded the orbs or sold them for outragous prices...for what was to be a free gift! As I recall, many devs worked overtime to feed the demands of "I didnt get an Orb yet!!!", and still people hoarded the orbs. I myself never got one last year as well.

But, This new Wookiee Life Day is very good and well thought out. It's Star Warsy and it fair. Everyone that has been in SWG for 30 days gets a random gift. One gift isnt better than another.

And what about people who haven't been in SWG for more than 30 days? Well, YOU have two orbs...how about, in the spirit of Life Day, giving someone a gift?

It's about giving...not taking...listen to the wookiees...

LOL, I could only stand so much too! And i really really tried!

For those of you who cant understand the horor of the Star Wars Holiday special, heres the highlights:

The good:

- Seeing Harrison Ford seriously act like Han. He didnt dumb it down.

- Chewbacca, the man is a thespian of high reguard! He did win an MTV lifetime award...

- the Imperials!

- the 20 minute Star Wars cartoon, with the real actors voices, and for the first time anywhere, Boba Fett!!!

- Life Day

Thats maybe 29 minutes of this two hour monstrosity...

The Bad:

- loads.

- Bea Arthur as a cantina owner, and she sings...

- The Jefferson Starship with dayglow guitars, and they sing...

- Art Carney having the biggest role...seriously

- Princess Leia sing to the wookiees on Life Day...SINGING!

- Mark Hammil wearing tons of makeup, looking almost like a drag queen...no song for him

- Harvey Kormon...doing anything

- most of Chewies embarassing family

- lots of 70's clothes and singing...lots of singing...

At least, it gave us Life Day.

Happy Life Day everyone!
