Remember, there are TWO new interfaces. One of them is typical MMOG (wasd) the other is SWG.

You don't have to hit enter to chat in the new SWG version of the interface either.

Glad to hear your not removing what we've grown used to. This interface took some time to learn, but i wouldn't trade it out for anything (well, understanding that I havent seen the new interface yet). I'm used to the ALT keys, I've got my macros keymapped to what I like, and I don't have to hit <ENTER> for chat as it is (except in space). But as for the ALT modes, I am very comfortable using BOTH modes. and I FREQUENTLY swap between them, using the mouse-look to move around and the other (free mouse mode, for lack of the right term) to click around the screen and access things. It's become second nature, and I love the interface, dispite the arguments of those that haven't yet learned how to get the most out of it.

I'll give this new thing a try..... but I just don't see myself going through a whole new learning curve to replace something I'm already comfortable with.

This sounds good to me. Personally I have always just pressed Alt once everytime I logged in an just played it that way the whole session. I use the number keys to rotate my camera an the arrow keys to navigate my characters movement. I also make heavy use of Numlock for Auto-Run. Which reminds me to ask do you have an ETA for the fix to the bug causing Num-Lock to make numbers in chat? I could remap Auto-Run to a different key I suppose but I dont wanna!!!

I would be satisfied if you could just fix my numpad keys showing up in the chatline. It's really annoying.

(Before anyone asks, this Friday Feature was going to be about the new weapons for CU, but a lot of the art didn't get approved in time. We'll post that one as soon as the art is approved. Hopefully in a week or two!)

First of all, thank you for being upfront about it.

Second of all, boohoo.

Wow, after trying this out for a few minutes each way, I have to say that the default SWG format works really well for me as long as I can remap Change Mouse Mode to another key. (like the Windows key)

Do EQ2 players really have to hold both mouse buttons to move around with the mouse or do they all rely on w-a-s-d (FPS) keymapping?

I didn't like the third person mouse moving much when I firs picked up SWG, but it's really grown on me and seems the best control for me for an RPG game. I can't get into the habit of using FPS controls for an RPG-style game.

Anyway, great job giving people more options, but moreso - great job on the initial SWG control layout. I love it.

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

I have been using the "FPS" setting with some slight re-maps for a long time now. I love the WASD setup so much better.

I don't see how this "new" version is much different from that existing option.

I love the alt modes as I use mouse pointer mode in battle to click my specials on toolbar, while I run around using the keyboard.

I am getting a little suspicious here... properly just some paranoid part of be, but first the Num Lock for autorun in broken in the normal SWG interface, and then that announce a New SWG interface... What are the odds that Num Lock was broken when some of the code to get the new system to work was put in?

I use both actually. Sometimes I use WASD, sometimes I use both mouse buttons... or when I'm running distances I use my side mouse button (4 I think it is) to auto-run... so I can run without holding anything down... then if I want to swing the camera around, I use the left button and I can see behind me while I continue running. In all honesty, this is a great setup that EQ2 uses. I think once people give it a try they will realize just how good it is. I was like a lot of people though. I thought SWG interface was the one and only interface... and now that I've played EQ2 since it came out and have just now come back to this game, I realize the error in my ways. It may not be for everyone... but if you give it a shot, you may find out you like it better... then again, maybe not. Either way, this gives those who wanted a change... the change they've been asking for, and those who hate change or like what they currently have... can in fact keep it that way. Everyone wins!

I like the current SWG interface quite well. I picked it up naturally. As far as the other new interfaces, I'll try the Alt-less SWG. If I wanted WASD, I would be playing Quake or Unreal, or Halo. And BTW I do use First person view. I play for immesrion. Not to see my toon. Only time I use the 3r person view is to take screeshots.

And what if we DONT want to change it at all? I have everything set up perfectly, and this would cause me to unlearn all my mappings, and re-customize an interface that I never wanted to change in the first place. If this gets in, PLEASE make it so we can keep it how it is if we desire.

The old interfaces are not being removed. You don't have to use these if you don't want to. I will say that after getting a chance to try out the new ones, I can't imagine ever playing the game any other way again. But nobody is being forced to use them.

I agree with you on that. I thought before EQ2 came out that it _HAD_ to have the SWG interface or it would be awful (I went so far as to complain about it on the EQ2 forums before I had even played it and before the game had even come out). Well, after playing EQ2 since the day it came out and now coming back to SWG (thanks to the addition in the Station Access), I can honestly say the EQ2 interface is a MILLION times better. Yay!!! Glad you are adding this. Can't wait to get rid of the horrid interface that is currently in place!!

Yup. It's not so much about "wasd" as it is about getting rid of the "modes" that the alt-key creates. You can still play the game using the SWG key set (instead of the EQ2-like version), just without having to use the alt-key to keep switching modes.

Of course, if someone really likes that setup, we won't make them change it. The alt-key interface isn't going away, we're just giving people an option that many have been asking for, for a long time. Again, even if you really like the current set-up, I'd recommend checking out the new interfaces on Test Center. You might be surprised.

Just make sure you give us the option of using the existing interface. I have used both the SWG and the EQ2 interface and I by far like the current SWG interface better. Really like that your giving people options on the interface, just make sure the current one is an option.

Thanks

Better get a tin foil hat. This was coded in the last week.

P.S. I didn't know about that bug and will have it looked into, when did it first happen?

Numlock works as it always have for me.

However "-" (next to right shift, i believe its "/" on us/english keyboards) sometime this past week finally starter working as /comm, has never worked for me before... now it stopped working again.

Using a danish keyboard.

Cant wait to try out the new interface, sounds interesting.

It is on TC now, though the New SWG version has at least one problem I saw tonight.
