I've a question. Where do you SEE what your current rank is? I don't see it anywhere on the Character sheet.

Only place I've been able to view my rank is when talking to the recruiter. They will always refer to you by rank when you talk to them

So, exactly what do faction ranks do?

I've heard faction purchases are cheaper if you're higher rank, but is that all it does?

If that's the case, I think they need to add more of an incentive to gain ranks, like combat mods. Maybe a +5 general range mod every three ranks, or something. I would imagine being a Colonel means your combat skills would have to be better than those of a Staff Sergeant.

This is what I know:

1. Joining a faction allows you to have "faction perks" for accumulating Faction Points (FP). Things like AT-STs, Armor, Faction buildings, and etc.

2. Lets say I wanted a Faction building. That building costs me 20k Faction Points. Well here I am a Private in my Faction and now I have to save up for that building. Each Rank has a FP Max that you can collect based on your rank. A private's max is somewhere near 1k. Well, guess what, If I want to earn more faction points, I need to advance in higher rank. The purposeto having rank is for being able to have great perks. As a Rebel, I hope to one day have Marine Armor. For all the pieces it costs somewhere near 10k. I need to advance my level as high as I need it to go and then buy my Faction Perks.

So you see my friend in order to keep some form of realism, a private or even a lieutenant should not be able to control a large Faction Base. It just isn't right. We need to advance our rank in order to build and be in charge of Bases and have other perks.

Unfortunately there is no combat perk to that. I doknow that who is to saya Colonel can out shoot a Sergeant? I know Iwas able toout shoot my former Commanding Officer in any competition we had in Real Life.

The Devs have taken an interesting approach to the Rank structure and what it means. I do like that nothing is so harsh that I have to listen to everything that some Captain tells me what to do. The only thing that I would like to see is the amount of hired help grow. As a Lieutenant I would want to have 1 or 2 more personnel then a Sergeant would have.

I hope this answers your question.

Perfect response! I was also wondering what the purpose of "ranking up" was for. Indeed, it does allow you to have a greater "pool" of faction points to attain higher perks.

But can you explain why a staff corporal outranks a staff sergeant, when a sergeant outranks a corporal?

Having such an overblown sense of pride or self preservation that one actually manages to PULL OFF actions equal to one's overblown sense of one's capabilities is closer, but still doesn't count as a super power." -Madame Parker

I wish I knew what the Devs were thinking on that one. My guess:

The basic US Military Rank structure is the following (Marines, Army, and Air Force only. The Navy is on their own program)

Private, Private first Class, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant and so on. (Each service has different ranks )

What I think is that they made sub divisions so that they can increase the amount of times you would have to get another Rank.

I have no clue honestly why they made a Corporal outrank a Sergeant.

I'm sorry I couldnt be of more help. Maybe its "the star wars world" and we need to get out of "the real world =)"

Sorry, I couldnt better explain

Faction purchases are not cheaper at any given rank.

Currently Ranks allow you to store more FP, as well as give a better conversion rate if you give faction ppints to another person.
