I'm a rifleman too, butI can still use traps. This method works well using a laser rifle or T-21. Find a creature and make sure /maskscent or /conceal is turned on. Go to about 40 meters and throw an adhesive mesh and a p-dart. The animal will stop. Run out to 60 meters, go prone and hit it with 4-5mind specials. Assuming it's not dead already, jump up, run to around 40 meters, and hit it again with adhesive mesh and p-dart. Go back out to 60 meters and splash some more mind specials. Repeat until creature is down. Pay close attention to the creature's state. The adhesive mesh will break before the p-dart. If the AM trap breaks, the creature will start coming for you, but very slowly. Before he gets to you, you'll have anough time to throw another AM trap.

Alternatively, you can use a good, sliced spraystick with a max damage/mind cost powerup. The ideal range is 30 m, and the speed is around 2.5 seconds. It won't do as much damage per shot as a T-21 or laser rifle, bit it's speedy and you can hit well from closer in.

Go to Lok and find a party that will hunt Gurks or Kimogilas.

You will be able to master the trapping skill tree very fast.

There is a small village being terrorised by Kimogilas not very far away from the starport area.

If you are on Bloodfin you can find crates of traps in the Bazaar. There are always a few crates for sale there.

Hey thanks everyone for the help. I just got Trapping IV. Here's how I did it.

I grouped with a CH friend of mine and we took Fambaa missions out of Moenia. I made 4 different kinds of traps and a lot of them at that. We used his Graul/2 GSPs to tank for us. I usually got within 20 meters and just started laying into the kritters. I was getting 505 trapping pts per trap that stuck! I would usually get 6-10 traps to stick before the fambaa went down. This was the most effective way that I found.

Thanks again for all your help.

The levels of creatures that you can trap is very strict to your trapping skill. So if you are in the first couple of boxes you will need to be trapping very low level creatures.

Whats the best place to grind trapping?

ive been gettign 21xp from durnis outside coronet is this how u grind it?

SWG in a nutshell
SWG is like a big hill, you spend ages going up it and then find you cannot even go over the top

sadly that's how i pulled it off while i was grinding trap xp for scout (if it wern't for survival xp ranger would have taken less time)

though when i ground out trap xp for ranger i pulled it off in 2 days trapping the crap out of Ghronda Patriarchs.

No. Close but no.

One, don't think of it as grinding. Always use traps, always always always. Trap everything. Then it's not a grind. Sitting in camp making traps gets you double xp, so do that. Carry many many many wire mesh, glowjuice and stink bombs. You can throw 500 wire mess at a creature and they all have a shot at sticking. If said creature can't hurt you, so much the better, toss away.

Get in a group, find someone who wants weapons xp. Tell them all you will be doing is trapping, and will shoot only if you have to. Then you go to a better planet and get higher missions. Like Endor or Dantooine. 400+xp for trapping Gleaming Lantern BIrds. How long will it take for you to level up?

Next, even if you do not want to fight it, trap everything you see. Big creature, trap and run away. If you were maskscented and it was an aggro, you get scout and trap xp.

Explore. There are some places you can stand and trap and not be hit by creatures. hint - POI, Talus. Not a cave. 200+ trap xp per trap, how many mesh can you toss?

I am puzzled why people have problems with trapping. I always maxed trapping first, both Scout and Ranger. Shoot, shoot, trap, shoot, trap, shoot...dead. I used to get more trapping xp than scout xp. I still use traps almost every time I engage a creature - hey, sometimes I run out.

Another trick. Get a droid, group with it if solo. It raises your xp even just standing there.

and another trick, make a macro that throws a trap right before doing a special.

set a trap in a toolbar slot, and create a macro that pushes that toolbar slot, then has a 1 second pause and then the special you want.
