This xp cap was added way back in beta to prevent people indulging themselves in apasstime known as bottomfeeding.
While not as disgusting as it sounds, it was predominantly used by combat classes. You may have noticed that as you get more skills, the xp you get from the lower level critters decreases. Back in beta people would kill theses mobs for the increased xp with zero risk, until they had the xp for an entire branch, sometimes even an entire novice profession.
While i personally don't enjoy the cap, i can understand why its there.
Most skills cap at 2x the xp needed for your current most expensive box, or 2x the xp needed for your next most expensive box to gain. There are a few which have different multipliers, and even some caps which are still bugged (the spice crafting xp at pure novice smuggler is one which is bugged that i know of).

I just died...huge battle..no BH...bad lag...I cloned...no xp Loss.

im on the terms
but i dont feel like hiding for 3 week so im wondering how much xp loss i get if i get a bh friend to kill me and a doc to res me?

it depends how many boxes u have completed in jedi i lost 230k xp for a db i didnt clone and im 0042 ls..
if your higher level u will lose more.

Anywhere between 60 to 90K for the DB...

why does everyone and his mother say it will take them 3 weeks to get off the BH terms??
It takes 3 weeks for FULL visabillity to go down.
Perhaps you only have 1% above the requiremts to ge on the boards?.
Keep on grinding - but do it even safer then before. Close to home. Have a peace macro ready, food, drugs and FD at hands
If a BH come you will loose as much as if your friend had killed you. (read above - playing safe also includes knowing you have a doc somewhere with in a 5 mins reach)

anyone know what the system is for xp loss is? what is it for plain old death and for when a bh kills you. i know it changes with how many skill points just whats the formula we got here

In brief;
To a BOUNTY HUNTER:
You will loose double what your mission is worth.. If you are on the terminals for 100k you will loose 200k xp. Your mission is based on visability gained and skillpoints invested in jedi skills.
CLONING:
Every time you clone you will loose xp.. This changes with the skill points you invest. DO NOT CLONE anymore because it's going to make you loose xp
- Get a doc to res you or do the hero quest.
