As someone that loves to play solo I understand your frustration. The idea was to make things more balanced, but the level system is a bit limiting the way they calculate them.

Anything 10 levels below you is a waste of time to fight, unless you are after the loot it drops, faction points it rewards, or you need to fight it to complete a quest.

Anything just a couple levels above you can easily take you out unless you are grouped or very competent in combat.

So, since this is the Tuesday Tip's thread;

If you wish to play solo limit the poi's you engage in combat to those equal to you in levelor no more than 9 levels below you. And practice your solo combat skills, try deferent combinations of actions, stims, and skill enhancements (weapon power ups, food, skill tapes, etc) so that if you come across a poi that is a couple levels above you it isn't insta-death for you.

Solo combat is challenging and can be fun, but there is great risk too.

I do that currently, but I'm going to start spreading one or two to other starports as Theed starport got bugged on TC so I can't access my ships.

On the off-chance such a bug slips through (and I don't think it ever would) it can be safer to keep one ship at a starport you don't normally use, preferably on the starter worlds so it is cheaper to get tickets to pick it up.

Ooo, another tip:

Using the "Luxury Yacht" to travel sometimes causes all your other ships to travel with you.

I remember taking the Yacht once, launching from Corellia and landing on Yavin, and being very surprised to see my z-95 and my Y-wing at the Mining outpost as well.

It's a simple thing, but I always buy round-trip tickets from my home city when going to the starport city where I fly in and out of. This way, whenever I get back, I don't have to run into the starport terminal area to get a ticket; as soon as I land from my trip, I can turn to the ticket collector droid and shuttle back home quickly.

I also do that for a different reason. Buying a round-trip ticket from your own city costs the same as buying it from a Starport. But if you buy it from your home city, your city gets a cut of the ticket price. So you're helping your city's budget without any effort.

What about some of your "in-game common sense" tips?

For instance, I keep my bank safety deposit box at the starport that I travel through the most. Since I still travel through Coronet a lot, I keep my safety deposit box there because its handy to have close by.

I also park my extra ships at a central starport so I can always get to the quickly.

What do you do to streamline your game play?

Typing /note brings up a notepad. When looking for resources for crafting, I edit the file (found in the profiles folders, note.txt) and copy and paste the names of what I want to find from SWGcraft.com, making it easy to remember that mile long tridechafizzipoofootiestis metal name I need. Just type /note ingame, and you'll see it right there, without tabbing in and out of the game.

No I don't have a freakin sig. Just make something up and pretend it's here man. woman. umm...Whatever.

Ok how about this one...

Often when traveling players encounter lag from all of the information being stored on their computer. This command will dump all the information saved on your computerthat you do not need in your current location. Enjoy!

/flushGraphicsResources fullReset

(Command is case and space sensitive)

When used it will sometimes cause a small freeze of your screen and will release after 1-2 seconds.

Also you can type // in your command browser and it will bring up a list that you can use for macros in the game.

Tip - learn to abbreviate the names of stuff you craft. I buy crates of food and stack them in my inventory. Many of the crates are identical, so a concise description surebeats something like "Chef Commander's Awesome VasarianBoosterSauce - WP Dant 1234 1234, PST GoogleMuffin for Special Orders". YIKES! Make it something like "VB 200/200/50 9.5". Makes it easier for us combat types (We don't like to read)

Combat Levels in Groups

While in a group, the combat system effectively sets you at the same level as the highest member in the group. All bonuses based on the difference between the group level and the target level apply.

For example, if the combat levels of a group are: 61, 54, 45, and 80, every member of this group will be considered to be Combat Level 80 for the duration of the group. This does not make the maximum damage of weapons or abilities increase, but it makes everyone have similar level-based bonuses compared to the enemies that the group is fighting.

Hey, groovy cool tip TH.

So, if some veteran players, out of the kindness of their heart, decide to take some new folk under their wing and get them out in the wild to learn about huntin' and shootin' and fishin' and stuff...

Why do the low level players get no XP??

A "For Example"... Am CL65, took a CK5 friend out to hunt. Me, I'm getting shedloads of XP, the other guy is benefitting from the increase in level, so taking little to no damage and really getting into that melee stuff.... We drop the critter, no weposn /combat XP for him, we harvest the critter, no scout XP for him,but hey, _I_ get a bonus for being grouped.

This has been reported and /bugged both on Test Centre and on Live servers, as well as being listed as an 'issue' by the Scout corry.

So, my tip for NEW players, keep well away from those grizzly old timers, they'll kill your XP deader than a dodo.

One thing it doesn't do, though, is give you the non-aggro bonus of the group level. If you're a level 30 in a group with a level 80, a level 30 (well lower actually, whatever normally cons green or above to you) or higher critter will still aggro on you just as if you were by yourself. At least some creatures definitely do this, like the beetles near the entry of the Myydril cavern. They didn't bother me when I was level 80, but with a level 30 they sure did even though I was grouped with a level 80 and they were gray to me. Then there are the snakes in the dead forest that do it too, though they aggroed on me even with level 80.

Tired of double clicking on stuff, when you're crafting or just want to attack something? If you have a halfway-decent mouse, do the following:

1. Open up your mouse software (usually found in Control Panel in Windows).
2. Assign your middle-mouse button (scroll wheel usually) to perform a double-click when you press it in.
3. Enjoy your new found lack of RSI in your index finger!

Ya know, Alari, I've done this, and SWG always seems to disable my center button double-click whenever the game is running. I have a Logitech mouse, and I have th center button assigned to double-click, but it never works in the game, and if I alt-tab out, it still won't work on the desktop. As soon as I close the game and it unloads, the center button starts working again. Is there anything else special you have to do to make it work? I've always wondered...

That's not 100% correct u don't get the xp bonuses a lower level in a group of 80's doesn't get the same experience as that of a level for killing a level 80mob would achieve, also health does not increase to 3000 of a level 80.
