This game has some of the strangest graphical glitches I've ever seen in a game (stars showing through the moons anyone?), and I'd love to wring the neck of whoever designed some of the art. I'm a bit of an artist myself, so when I see blatant disregard for perspective I gag.

I don't think they are hoping for submissions to the Louvre' when they create the paintings.

I dont give a rip if the texture quality went down a notch, if it makes the game more playable. I am used to having to turn down all the graphics features anyway too get acceptable performance.
Yes it is nice to see the lil fishies swimming in the lakes but I dont spend huge amounts of time starting at them. I also dont want to die as a Overt player coming into CNet, dropping down to 2 FPS just so the place can look pretty.
Nor am I going to drop 500 bucks on the uber nuclear powered volcano 256mb DDR 8x SLI monster vid card just so I can see the scales on the fishies.
hate to say it but theres a LOT more people running stuff like 32 MB Geforce 2s than there are running 256MB 6800 vid cardsI totally agree with you, but as I do have the uber nuclear powered nuclear volcano nuclear blah blah 12345 LOL, I don't like having my awesome graphics stolen out from under me, you know? I would be completely satisfied if it were an OPTION, so you can play your way, and I can play my way. I don't PVP, my frame rate is never below 20, but I explore, I do play to see the sights and what not. I just think to downgrade something to fix it (by lowering the quality no less), instead of upgrading (by adding an option to do so yourself) is a crappy way to fix it.If the thought was "Hey, no one will notice it, and we can make alot of people happy with increased FPS!", well, there are a few people here who noticed it, and have not noticed an FPS increase. Have you noticed an FPS increase? I doubt it.The fact of the matter is, they did not give us the choice. That's my gripe.Speaking of which, gripes are getting hard to come by lately, so don't get me wrong devs, think you guys have made a total 180 on the team there! Alot of new additions and changes that I really enjoy. Now just look at HOW you made this change, fix it, and keep up the good work!
Another thing to keep in mind, is that this might not have been intended. It could be a bug resulting from the optimizations.

And it makes nothing better....I had lag today and yesterday, even in space........

You're right, I knew there was something that looked wrong that I couldn't quite put my finger on, and this sounds like exactly what I was seeing.
I upgraded my graphics card and RAM just before Christmas, and bearing in mind that I play SWG more than anything else I do on my main PC, it does feel like I'm being cheated of the graphics I should be getting.
On another note, this thread might be slightly more visible if you moved it to the "Core Systems" board, that sounds like a better match to me than having it in Game Guides.

As an unofficial guild photographer, I noticed this pretty much the second I logged in after Pub 13. Suddenly I was seeing blocky terrain textures, not the beautiful stuff I'd come to expect from SWG.
Glad to see I'm not just crazy from staring at my monitor all these years.
It's funny too....I haven't noticed a single improvement in my FPS. In fact, lag seems heavier, and today I got erratic lag spikes on Ahazi until I CTDed again.
So I add my voice to this angry mob:
Devs! Give us a checkbox, an option, anything. But let us choose if we want our terrain to look great or....well, bad. Some of us like our un-optimized game.

I've always loved the beautiful views on Dantooine and Naboo. They really shouldn't do this.

Yeah ever since Publish 13 my games been really choppy when moving around. It's really been detractingfrom my gaming experience. This kind of reminds me when they tried to improve game performance early on in the game. People and NPCs started using the low pixel models that are used for characters that are far away when using LOD management. They looked UUUUUUUGLY!!!! Like something out of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. Anyway, I hope they amend this latest change like they did that one.

I'll have to agree, the terrain looks ugly now
I've not noticed any performance increase either.

I 2 just built a uber PC gaming machine to enjoy SWG. Wow, I can't believe how much this is bothering me. Please fix SOE, and I promise not to sleep with your mom anymore (for a week at least.)

What the hell? So now they're downgrading the graphics? How does that make any sense?!

You guys just don't know how happy I am to see this is not my computer only *whew!* I spent 4 hours tweaking settings, thinking myself crazy. Here is to hoping this thread stays afloat and someone sees it. Would this be considered a bug for a bug report? Maybe we could post under the recent Publish issues thread
Myself and two others already have
. I must say the silent treatment from all the devs is making me feel a bit uneasy though. *Starts thinking of conspiracy theories*
