Yep, spot on, that is exactly the problem I was talking about, perfect example.
Anyone had any feedback from the devs whats going on?

The graphics in Beta were even better. I remember some pre-release screenshots that would make you drool. But that just wont run well on todays PC's.
I don't know what the graphics were like in beta, but there is no justification for messing up the perfectly fine graphics almost 2 years after release and then trying to pass it off as a performance improvement. If the graphics are going to be degraded to this degree I would expect one heck of an FPS jump, and I don't think my FPS has increased at all.

I sent SOETyrant (the dev who announced the team's efforts to increase performance every publish) a PM but I haven't gotten a reply so far.

ya, I think there should be an option as I loved just walking around taking awesome pics of the good graphics....with these new textiles taking pics just for the the sights isnt worth it. Good eye!

I noticed this today on Dathomir, all of the grass on the hills seems to have a tiled appearance...I was thinking to myself, "huh...never noticed it to be that ugly before.." But I just shruged and went on my way.
Now that I saw this post, I realized I only noticed it today most likely because it was only implimented recently, as I spend 95% of my waking time on Dathomir. I also notice NO increase in performance, in fact, today was particularly bad. I would appreciate the option to choose whether I want this "performance enhancing change" or not, as I just recently spent three grand getting a super-gaming system just for SWG...and don't like to have it look like it used to on my laptop!

I dont give a rip if the texture quality went down a notch, if it makes the game more playable. I am used to having to turn down all the graphics features anyway too get acceptable performance.
Yes it is nice to see the lil fishies swimming in the lakes but I dont spend huge amounts of time starting at them. I also dont want to die as a Overt player coming into CNet, dropping down to 2 FPS just so the place can look pretty.
Nor am I going to drop 500 bucks on the uber nuclear powered volcano 256mb DDR 8x SLI monster vid card just so I can see the scales on the fishies.
hate to say it but theres a LOT more people running stuff like 32 MB Geforce 2s than there are running 256MB 6800 vid cards

I totally agree with you, but as I do have the uber nuclear powered nuclear volcano nuclear blah blah 12345LOL, I don't like having my awesome graphics stolen out from under me, you know? I would be completely satisfied if it were an OPTION, so you can play your way, and I can play my way. I don't PVP, my frame rate is never below 20, but I explore, I do play to see the sights and what not. I just think to downgrade something to fix it (by lowering the quality no less), instead of upgrading (by adding an option to do so yourself) is a crappy way to fix it.
If the thought was "Hey, no one will notice it, and we can make alot of people happy with increased FPS!", well, there are a few people here who noticed it, and have not noticed an FPS increase. Have you noticed an FPS increase? I doubt it.
The fact of the matter is, they did not give us the choice. That's my gripe.
Speaking of which, gripes are getting hard to come by lately, so don't get me wrong devs, think you guys have made a total 180 on the team there! Alot of new additions and changes that I really enjoy. Now just look at HOW you made this change, fix it, and keep up the good work!

I've been noticing this since patch 12. Logged in one day and everything looked like it had been cut from construction paper by a three-year old. Manipulating the graphics settings does nothing. I have a high-end PC so I always run on optimal settings. Was beginning to think it might be my dirvers (ATI Catalyst), but now I'm not so sure.

I was noticing some odd effects with non-collideable flora lately... weird "flat" bushes and mushrooms and such.
I haven't noticed any frame rate increase, and I'm not on a very high-end system. Shouldn't making the game uglier to increase performance be a client-side option?
They might have accidentally disabled some detail functions while making actual improvements to the terrain code...
