Thread: Tuesday Tips May 24th Stopping Shot
I’m going to have to wholeheartedly agree that root by not breaking upon attacks presents some serious combat balance issues by allowing the user to prevent (or at least severely inhibit) their opponent from being able to attack back.
The worst case of this issue occurs when used in a ranged vs. melee battle. The ranged combatant through the use of a root ability is able to keep the melee combatant out of range and score “free damage.” Further it is possible with certain templates and combinations of abilities for one person to keep someone rooted for lengthy periods of time, unable to attack back.
How can it be possible that the combat upgrade, which was supposed to balance combat, can support such an ability that can completely inhibit a melee fighter’s ability to attack back? The root ability should break upon damage and be used to momentarily stop the opponent in order for the ranged fighter to better position them self, not be used as an “I win” button.
After a month of having this new type of system in place and we're still in the 'nothing definitive yet' phase? Come on. Stop leaning on the fence and start working on getting this meager CU to the solid finished product that we know it can be. Heck, we're still getting item conversion issues barely fixed.

Shouldn't there be a timer on this to prevent repeat/chain attempts?

This is the case for knockdown (a timer), and that's a state that can at least be recovered from.
Once rooted, we should be immune from +root+ a for a certain amount of time.
There have been discussions about giving the root a chance to break on damage, but nothing definitive yet.
Sure do. We've raised the issue internally. We can'tget instant information regarding a resolution, but we can surely let you know when there is.
lol whatever..hypocrit 101.

Kurt,
Any word about the +ROOT+ that are being exploited? Or is it working as intended that players can use them to keep others perma rooted? I was also reading that damage should break a root? Is this true?
Stopping Shot does not break when damage is done.
Although you shouldn't be able to "perma-root" someone one on one. There is a timer to prevent that, though there are combinations that can makerecovering from the rootdifficult.

Unless they are a jedi and another friend is not allowed to attack, but five bounty hunters is just fine ....
You see the problem?
*looks around rapidly then hides saber behind back* i see no problem with it... "its working as attended! you got a problem with it, theres the door, don't let it hit you on the way out"

Well how abouts you turn off xp loss for Jedi when its clear that you have now just detailed the way for 2 or 3 BH to 100% hand them there asses?
The stupidity of the dev team is only out done by the shine of the sun and even then its a close call

TH - While you are in here can you tell us when they are going to update the BLOGS and give us status on things to come? Sometimes an entire day goes by with not even a "hello" from a dev. It would go great lengths to improve the relationship with the players during these perilous times. Thanks.

As I recall J Smedley said over a month ago that it would take a few weeks but responses from the comunity would be looked into and progress would be made in turning this game into what we were all promised how can there still be nothing.
If you need a solution how about turning Visability off perminently, this removes the 5 man bounty hunter gank squads and allows Jedi to adventure with their friends. As of today you have just advised all bounty hunters to take root and get in squads of five and grief Jedi till they quit nice going its good to know where the devs stand in respects to Jedi.
