I actually use macros and map them since I can make buttons do different things in different situations...
I play a melee with some medic skills so I use
Mouse Wheel: /mount;/dismount;/loot;/harvest hide
This will mount my vehicle if I have it targeted, dismount if I'm riding, and loot/harvest if I have a corpse targeted. Oh, and the loot button is made for peaceful soloing purposes, if you use it to loot ninja in a group evil gnomes will fill your mouse with fishguts while you sleep.
Right Mouse Button: /stopfollow;/follow
This will follow my target if I've got something targeted and stopfollow if I click it with nothing targeted
Thumb Button (I have a few extra buttons on my mouse): /ui clearcombatqueue;/healdamage self
Clears my combat queue and heals my self. Not 100% sure I got the commands there right.
Now, if anybody can think of any options thatI could add onto my buttons to make them even more useful, I'd appreciate that Tesday tip!
Oh, and I also used to use some key combinations (Ctrl+Right Mouse Button for Mind Hit 3, Ctrl+Left Mouse Button for Lunge, etc) but I stopped using those for some reason.

I remember reading about this tip way back in the beta forums. It was the very first thing I did on my character. It is so much more handy than the alt key

I love this tip!!! :-) I did this a while back, now it's one of my greatest frustrations whenever I start up on a new server (like test center) One of the first things I do is set my mouse scroll wheel to act as the alt key. Brilliant!!!

First thing I do when I create a new character is switch to EQ style, so i'm already set with this. Personaly I don't see how people can play with the SWG keymapping.

i dont think that mapping alt to the mouse wheel is more advantagous than having the wheel double click for me...
i wish tehre was a way to set it so the game never went into that alt mode in the first place.

I have also used this since original beta, but can't get it to work in SE beta on the ground. Says the mouse wheel can't be remapped.
Has anyone else noticed this or found a way around it? I'm lost without the wheel toggle.

That's nice, but I use MY mouse-wheel button as a double-click thanks to Microsoft's Intellimouse software. Makes looting and crafting soooooo much easier. Down-side is I end up asking people to trade often when they get between me and the ticket droid.

Or you can just use the EQ interface and not worry about these different "modes" at all. No alt keys to worry about, and the movement is much more natural for me.

Agreed. This something I always do too - I have about 6 remaps I must do to play on any computer. Mouse wheel click, chat copy/paste (I can't handle my macros not being cut n' pastable), and, since I hit doc, I've gotta have3 keys mapped to /clearCombatQueue and then healdamage, /healstate, and /firstaid.
Another good time I got from a vet doc was to map the number keys to your party, such that numpad 1 is the first player, up through 9, and then map 0 to yourself. Makes it extremely easy to keep that party alive.
My other minor tip for melee types - I assumed everyone did this, but apparently not - I have a macro in my F1 slot on all my combat bars that reads: /follow;/macro CoB (my center of being macro),/BestAttack (whatever your current best attack is). It's invaluable for quick hunting - tab, f1, wait, tab, f1, wait. Makes it horribly easy to chase down ranged attackers too - even if you can't see them, if you can tab them, you'll find them. I had a warcry included too, but I use it against local targets too, so that didn't seem to work.

I have an Intellipoint (or whatever you call it) optical mouse from MS. There's a left thumb button that I remapped the Alt key to, so all I have to do is click that and it swtiches back and forth. I do like the idea of using the mouse wheel for clearing the combat qeue and healing self, I'll have to use that one
