Thread: Space Expansion
After reading some of the pages (no way i'm reading them all) I see most agree that you would choose a planet and then get a load screen. That's exactly what I don't want to see (but I know this is what will happen). I want to be able to land my ship (and take off)myself. I'm tired of loadscreens then seeing your ship on the launch pad (even transition screens are anoying). Am i a pilot or not? If there is going to bea load screen, then let us land after loading. That's all I ask. The landing system (and take off) in X-Wing Alliance worked pretty good for my taste. I was just happy to sort of be able to land and take off myself.
BTW I know this will never happen. Just wishfull thinking. After all, if i'm not mistaken the question was "post what you would like to see" or something along those lines.

i think im pritty sure how landings/takeoffs aregoing to be (seeing video footage at E3 last year and stuff).
okay u get on ur ship andu wanna take off. it flys up about one hundred feet (automated) thenit loads for a minute. then u appear as the ship is leaving the atmosphere. while in space (it is free mode (devs said requires joystick) ) u can fly around and go to space stations and stuff (loads after docking in that case). u can go to hyperspace and when u come out where u want (it probably will be real time, so u have to sit and play holo chess
) and when u come out of hyper space u can fly around until u enter a planets atmosphere. as ur ship automaticaly desends into the atomosphere, u can choose a city. then it loads and comes out of loading with ur ship about 100 feet above the ground and it automatically sits down. and then it is a static object like a harvestor (untill u take off).
rinse, repeat.
Yes, I would like to see spaceships being landed wherever you wanted on a planet, but I was stating what I think wil happen, not what should happen.
Sorry if I worded it wrongly...
Soal the developers never said it requires a joystick to pilot a ship. I think what they said was that the joystick option might be available. Can anyone else back me up on this.
MBlast on the Tie Flight Suit is in SWG the game, that suit is exactly what the Imp Pilots were wearing in Star Wars A New Hope. Remember when Vader was getting ready to get into his Tie to try to take out the rest of the Rebels who were attacking the Death Star, I think he said something like- you two come w/ me. Then the camera switched to two guys in Tie Flight suits. Yeah Im sure there might be different flight suits for the Imp tie pilots that may get introduced, but as far as the movies are concerned those are the only ones that I have seen.
To be honest with you now Im approaching the Expansion with a bit of skepticism after reading some of these post about what people think will not happen. I think alot of people are going to be somewhat dissapointed including myself. So that being said, I dont think the expansion will meet most of our expactations. Of course I have nothing to go on to really make such a statement, but come May we shall all see.
I have said this numerous times in these posts. Load screens are unavoidable because SWG is not a seamless MMORPG. The question is when do we see the load screens.? I think load screens for spacecraft should only be a part of the hyperjump phase..not when you lift off of a planet. Game engine wise they may not be able to do this.
Wow April is almost here. Wonder if this thread will survive until May ![]()
Took me almost entire afternoon to read through ![]()
About prices for ships, they should not be sold by npc vendors imo, economy will regulate it so that prices are fair (depending on the resources required, in case a lot of special resources are needed it will take a while before ships appear making them more expensive at first). Comes the question of whom should make the ships ? If you make a completely new profession it will be making tons of money, if however armorsmiths are needed for shields, DE's for electronics/repair droids and weaponsmiths for guns what leaves that for a stand-alone profession apart from assembling everything and hulls and blueprints ofships ? (allthough every level could represent a new shiptype and they can just make this profession onenext to the current crafting professions or have them make things like nav and requiring subparts from other professions).
Several good suggestions have been made as for components needed for ships, and making it a combined effort of crafters is also good imo. Allowing for upgrades and repairs (requiring actual parts)when stuff deteriorates, so artisans can keep making money. I don't think maintenance should be needed (you use maintenance money to buy new parts), only fuel.
Perhaps it's best to make every planet have a space-docking station where all spaceships dock and from where shuttles to the planet shuttle back and forth as I have read atmospheric was too hard to implement.
As for planets : most have been mentioned (dunno if Bespin has been put forward ?)

The SPACE EXPANSION has been on my mind since it was first announced.
MY SPACE EXPANSION WISH LIST
1. Entry Level (single passenger) spacecraft
(i.e., Obi-Wan's ship in Star Wars II: TCW)
2. Intermediate Level (2-8 passenger) spacecraft
(i.e., the shuttle currently in SWG)
3. AdvancedLevel (2-20 passenger) spacecraft
(i.e., blockaderunner,Millenium Falcon, Slaver I, as seen in Star Wars II: TCW &IV: ANH)
4. "Faction Granted" (1 passenger) spacecraft
(A-wing, B-wing, X-wing, Y-wing, TIE Bomber, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor)
* Must have certain faction rank/training to pilot
5. "Faction Granted" shuttles/transports
(i.e., Rebel Medium Transport, Imperial Lambda Class Shuttle, Imperial Landing Craft
as seen in Star Wars V: TESB
* Must have certain faction rank/training to pilot
6. Droids for navigation in entry level spacecraft (as in the movies)
7. Communication between spacecraft
8. Space Stations (for repairs, maintenance, rest area, etc)
9. "Hyper-gates" to travel across space in shorter times (as seen in Star Wars II: TCW)
10. Anomolies such as Nebula, black holes, space debris, meteor showers, magnetic/ion storms, etc.)
* Entry and Intermediate Level spacecraft would not have hyperdrive capability and would have to use hyper-gates to travel extreme distances.
* Advanced and Faction Granted spacecraft would have hyperdrive capability.
* I'm not sure Corellian Cruisers,Escort Frigates, Star Cruisers, Imperial Star Destroyers or Super Star Destroyers would be good in our hands as they would become "Uber-Spacecraft". Maybe theability"call them in" for support would be nice, depending on your rank in your preferred faction.
To get a look at the spacecraft already in use the the SW world go to: www.starwars.com/databank/starship
Anyway, looking for thoughts and opinions...
Developers keep an eye on this!
