Well from the dev chat there is going to be some kind of pilot skill tree. Vague at best but better than nothing.
A few morsels of ambiguous information for us to chew on. Must...get...into...space...

I doubt they will let us have star destroyers. lol.. talk about griefing. Pilot ships with be single cockpit. I doubt we will be able to walk around in our ships. It will be difficult just to duplicate space flight with this current game engine. I beleive they will have a theme park for a stardestroyer. Take a shuttle from theed, load up and *poof* your back on the StarDestroyer. Wonderful theme park idea though. 20 or so levels with those fast opening and closing doors (I would hate to be in that doorway when it closes) From the hanger bay to the bridge, to engineering. Grab a drink in 10 forward.... Errrr wait.. thats another show.
Every single one of these idea posted here are fantastic! But most are a programmers nightmare. (ponders the last eight months) Now, i beleive within the last month or two, SOE has added more programmers or better ones whichever. it seems things aresmoothing out a bit within the last few weeks or month. I still hope!
Im interested in seeing how 'the clone wars' will work. I heard a spoiler at one time where Anakin kills Padme with a force choke on accident. Ive also read somewhere, Anakin somehow falls into a lava pit to where Obi cannot save him, he runs to get help. Meanwhile, the Emperorfinds Anakin and nurses him back to health with the help of his breathing apparatus raising him to the dark side. Lord Vader is born. I beleive being Jedi, Anakin is giving a choice between Padme and Jedi-hood of which he takes the Jedi way of course. He is power hungry. Therefore leaving Padme behind. She has twins without Anakin's knowledge. The seperation of the twins probabily was talked long about, therefore sending the male child toTattooine and the female child to Alderaan. This is all speculation but it kinda fits. The were seperated simply because of who their father is. The most powerful Jedi and the most uncontrollable Jedi. Any chance BioEngineers and Doctors get together to make midi-chlorine buff packs?

Rodie, for single pilot craft I suspect that it will be a single cockpit view only. Surely you are not referring to the X-Wing, because there is no room just a cockpit. However, for the larger ships including the Mill. Falcon sized ships I hopethere will be room to move around, maybe even walk around. I believe they could do this if they ,the developers, wanted to.
We'll just have to wait until May around E3 and then some to get a better picture of what to expect for Expansion. Its good for us that May is not too far off.

Actually, I heard that at gamspot.com, they have the date to be realeased in Augest, but that's most likly not true, but I could be. If they come out with information in May for E3 I think they could have it done by then.

With the space expansion you would probably have two different game engines. Anyway, there isn't too much to load in space so lag and other loading issues shouldn't be as much of a problem.

If you go to the EB Games website and use the search function : Star Wars Galaxies Space- The ship date is July 2004 . Of course we all no better than to believe retail releasedates. I think EB Games had the ship date as August 2004 now it July 2004. ??

Well, stumbled accros this thread tonight, I didn't get a chance to read every page, so please excuse me if I post something somebody else already has.
I agree with what a lot of people have said, landing on planets anywhere would be cool, but it would introduce big issues. Think about having to load the terrain and static objects for the planet's surface, its not the same as placing a harvestor, where it is limited to one area, and you are already on the planet, but you would have to load up the planet, and find someplace to place it on the entire surface, I don't think that that will be implemented... Docking in NPC and player cities will be implemented, I think.... Capitol ships would have to stay in orbit, but I think that when you choose to land on a planet, all that would happen would be
1. Choose city
2. Loading screen
3. Arrive at starport landing area
Moving around in ships, I turely believe that it will be possible anytime, in battle or not. I don't think that they will have come this far as to say "Well, the current system won't let us do this" and then just quit... (Although, I admit there is a possability of this happening)
Decorations... Ehhh... Maybe...
One idea that I had, was that in professions like smuggler and bounty hunter, they would gain access to personal ships that only their profession could have, as well as special manuvers and abilities. There would still be a pilot profession, of course, but it would not be required to fly ships. A bounty hunter would have the skills needed to pilot his own ship, and fly it well. But, a trained pilot could bring him down.
The ship building profession should require other professions to operate, yes, but I think that they would be the only ones to make ship shield generators (After for example, getting the componets from an armorsmith) I think that is how it will be implemented.

I truely hope that they will have specific zones for each planet, and they will have space stations, asteriod bases, and the like.
One thing I don't think has been mentioned, is the need for a special flight suit for TIEs, since they have no life suport systems. This would also mean that craftable ships would require a life support slot, maybe... Tailors and other professions could craft these suits (Maybe a variation of the flight suits already in the game?)
I also wonder what other changes this game will bring, besides the space stuff.... Other races, I think was mentioned... I wonder who?
I also wonder how the Jedi are going to be affected by this space expansion.. Will they get any perks in starfighter combat?
Ah, anyway.... Just my 2 cents...

MBlast there are players running around right now that have those special tie-fighter space suits.
On ship landing thats the whole point (argument)if you can place a harvester in some areas of the planet you should be able to land a ship in certain areas just like placing a harvester. Your ship while planet side would just be a static object. I'll take it a bit further: If guilds can place/display Xwing- Tie Fighters on display planet side players that own their own ship should be able to do the same.

Quick idea to put down because I don't have time to type the rest. I think the pilot profession will simply be xp based and the only thing it will grant is the ability to get larger and larger ships.
