Thread: Tuesday Tips May 24th Stopping Shot
Rooting is like being pinned down and there where quite a few scenes where jedi got pinned down or were made effectively immobile from ranged fire in episode 2. The Jango Obi scene where Jango blast off to get some range while laying down a ton of fire effectively rooted Obi.

But if you want to go by the movies maybe all jedi could get a friendly visit from Mr. Vader for some good ole perma death. Not the restart your jedi character kind either.

This concept only works if a single hit actually hurts you. SWG has no reality in this sense, since players can take multiple hits that would be fatal in real life oreven make believe in the movies. The Jango Obi scene where Jango blast off to get some range while laying down a ton of fire effectively rooted Obi. Yes, and it was Jango that was being hunted by Obi, not the other way around. When Jedi were to be hunted, the emperor sent a Sith Lord after them. Although, I freely admit that Vader in his hunt for Luke enlisted the assistance of BHs, he never in any stretch of imagination believed they could capture him. And yes, Jedi did die when confronted with insurmountable odds or unexpected treason as shown with order 66.

Sounds like someone else is jealous that they don't have a jedi to play with, lol! Your suggestion would be OK if all characters risked perma death.

Kurt, chain rooting a Jedi with Stopping Shot and Concussion is called...Tactics. "Fair and fun for both parties" seems only to mean "Fair and fun for Jedi." To ravage (the filter wouldn't allow me to type "r*pe") every other fighting professions' specials:
Last Ditch
Low Blow
Concussion
Stopping Shot
all knockdowns
etc, etc, etc
so that they don't affect Jedi means they don't affect anything ELSE either. Doing this will hurt PvP AND PvE for us non jedi non bounty hunter (I use bounty skills to HELP my smuggler, not the other way around. I haven't hunted a single jedi...yet) types to no end. I know everyone else just whines and flames, but PLEASE (for once) listen to someone besides the jedi if they make a reasoned statement. Jedi DO get everything they whine for, and everyone else gets Nothing. Your focus group people are feeding you misinformation if they are telling you that everyone wants to be a jedi and everyone wants all other professions to be ruined.

Okay, so let's take Jedi/BH out of the equasion:
Say you're an Imperial SF member, heading out for some PvP one night. You and your group zone into Coronet, not knowing what awaits.. but hopeful that there are some Rebel SF members about. You head out of the starport and are suddenly +ROOT+. You quickly start tabbing around looking for someone.. anyone... -ROOT-. +ROOT+.... uh oh.. there must be covered riflemen/pistoleers about using a combination of stoppingshot and quickdraw on their Laser Rifles... /bacta, /bacta, -ROOT-, +ROOT+.... -ROOT-...+ROOT+... incap. 4 riflemen appear on your radar and you visit the cloner.
Could this happen (honest question)? If so.. would you call it fair and fun?
What kind of person loads into a hot zone like that? Do people on your server really load into a Starport for PvP?
4 bad ones wont think to keep the jedi rooted and stay out out of saberthrow range.

Call me crazy, but I'm of the belief that in a 4 on 1 PvP situation, the 1 SHOULD lose the fight.
Jedi or not.
1 vs. 1 = fair fight, odds are even
4 vs. 4 = fair fight, odds are even
4 vs. 1 = the 4 SHOULD have an advantage, and SHOULD win the fight
Making it so a single player is able to hold their own against 4 opponents at once, now that seems unbalanced.
Un-frickin-believable.
Its not a matter of win or lose. With perma root in a jedi vs bh situation the jedi can't counterattack at all thats not a fight. And for the record one good pvper should be able to beat four bad ones, jedi or not.

Sure we do. A bunch of us play and some of us play a lot. To answer your question, currently, there is a problem with the timer and it is being looked at now. I'm sorry if I hadn't made that clearer.
I do hope the "fix" for this "problem" is implemented about the same time the Jedi/BH TEF is fixed. It would be very insulting to "fix" something that makes it "harder" for a Jedi to "hit-run-hide", as opposed to actually "fixing" the ability to "hit-run-hide"....I mean both effect the Jedi profession, one to it's benefit, one to it's disadvantage. Then again TH, if you and the Devs just want make it crystal clear for the rest of us....pleasse fix the 3 week old "problem" before you fix the 3 month old problem. I won't mind one bit, and at least I'll know where the Dev team stands. I don't have to agree with anyone....I just like to hear the truth.
You shouldn't be having 4 riflemen lay roots on you while they are covered. Once something other than conceal shot is fired the cover breaks and they should be showing up on your radar. If this isn't the case then it is a bug that should be fixed.

Its funny you say that TH as 'IF" you all played like you stated you would see that fixes to broken profession (almost ALL of them) would rank far higher multiplayer speeders. Eye candy is not needed profession fixes are needed
you realize that they have people working on profession fixes, new game features, and expansions all simultaneously right?
it's not like the boss comes in and says, "ok everyone stop whatever you're doing! i want you all to work on multi-player vehicles!... get to it!"
i rather like that they added multi-player vehicles.
it shows that they're commited to fixing the bugs, as well as improving game systems.
Yeah but it would do the game a world of good if they took those teams and actually applied them to rather more useful endevours. Such as fixing the innumerable bugs, broken abilities (Commando AoE for example. Which really does NOT work). Things like how elemental damage. Doesnt. LOS doesnt work all that well at times. So that some one out in the open suddenly 'cant be seen' because they are a foot lower than you are due to a small dip in the ground etc. Or how about the fact that pure crafters are left with NO form of protection what so ever? PSGs will save you they said!. Bull. PSGs only protect against energy. Not very well either for that matter. And then only ranged attacks. Totally ignoring kinetic ranged attacks, melee attackers that will hit you from over 30m away etc. Not to mention that as a pure crafter your level is 1. Which means ANYTHING and everything agros you. And WILL one shot your ass with the exception of agros near the NPC cities which will maybe take 3 hits as their geared towards level 1 characters. And then of course they require us to get resources from such fun places such as Endor, Yavin, Dathomir etc. With their level 80+ mobs who do boggling ammounts of damage to you that no buffs will save you from. Nor will armor as you cant wear any. So now they give us camo kits.. woo. The same camo kits that rangers use sure. But I seriously doubt they'll be that effective for no rangers. Also being grouped to raise your level doesnt really help that much when you only have 900hp.
like i said, they already have people working on all those issues. they don't need the whole entire staff to work on them. that would be overkill and probably cause more bugs than it would fix.
so they devote some people to bug fixing, and some to developing new game systems that will make the game more immersive and fun.
there's always gonna be bugs no matter how many people you put on the job of fixing them. putting everyone on the job of fixing bugs would just result in a game with no content or cool game systems (kinda like what we had for the last 2 years when they spent all their time trying to fix the old combat system)

This arguement of work involved shouldnt get even a minuscule bit of consideration. The hard grind is there to make them rare, not make them elite. It could take 2 years and they be no more powerful than a regular player and the long grind is STILL justified becaues it exists for the sole purpose of making jedi rare. Now previously I explained that better ways exist to make jedi rare, but currently this is the only one and you keep reducing this 'penalty' which makes jedi less and less rare. First there was a hard grind, an unknown way to become jedi, and permadeath. Then it was a known way to grind, permadeath and a long grind. Then its a known system and a long grind but 3 deaths within 2 weeks for permadeath to take affect. Then its a known long grind and you lose a skill box every time you die. Then its an XP loss on death and a known grind. Then its revamped so they get their own nondefendable damage type by the majority of us 'mundane' not to mention the entire PVE arena, a quest and a long grind with XP loss. Then we get a CU which brings them from 8x more powerful than any other profession in the game to just 1.5x more powerful (if you cant do the math dont bother replying). Then they removed XP loss on PVE death. Then they removed XP loss on PVP death that isnt from a bounty hunter.
They fear NOTHING and flaunt their robes and their sabers everywhere. They force meditate and channel force in cantinas. They pvp in front of starports. Now they are actively campaigning to systematically get every SINGLE special nerfed that has a chance of taking them down because 'afterall I'm a Jedi and mundanes shouldnt be able to kill me because they are just stupid mundanes'. I even had a Jedi on Chilastra named -Ultra send a email to a guildie once about how he owned the geo cave and it was his right to prevent anyone else from grinding there because SOE has elevated him to the status of GOD and GOD has decree'd that noone else is allowed in there. They pick and they pick and they chisel and they weasel every SINGLE change one at a time. They will never be happy until you finally change it to a ingame form that one submits requesting jedi and upon aproval (which is mandated all forms are automatically approved) they get to type /firstspec on their next login and just choose the boxes in jedi they would like to have. Mark my words, next they will start demanding the XP requirements of each box be lowered if they havent already.
Nearly all of the rest of us 'peons/laypeople/mundanes' are so sick of the jedi and their Holier than Thou attitude, you can almost feel the hate dripping off the walls. If you run astromech stats on the respec I bet will find an overwhelming amout of players that took up BH just because they are so sick of Jedi. They give nothing to the community, they have been made entirely self sufficent. They need no clothing. They need no weapons. They need no armor. They usually dont even need docs to heal their wounds. I and many others in my guild and on servers across all galaxy want to know one simple thing, we have one meager request:
Can you PLEASE create a galaxy cluster for us and make it a NO JEDI galaxy?!

No offense to those that are jedi..I know you worked hard for it. But this is getting silly now. You cant go ANYWHERE in the game and not run into a jedi. Nightly I am seeing any area of the game filled with Jedi running around..healing folks who need it (since there are no more doctors)...constantly being used to fill up groups to complete some of the new quests. It is getting sickning reading over and over how certain quests can easily be completed with 2 jedi in your group with defender and lightsaber. Things need to come back down to earth in terms of making it a hard life for a jedi. To keep seeing the constant catering to this profession...it is getting me more and more frustrated every day.
Again...no offense to you all that are jedi...I know you spent alot of time doing it. But even you have to admit it is getting out of hand.
No offense to you, but are you a jedi? if not I think you should be carefull what you say, because me and hundreds of other players did not grind for months to become a jedi just to pwned pvp vs 1 BH or not being able to do high end pve. Be objective....have you ever seen a starwars movie? have u seen that jedi can do certain things that a regular prof cant? i mean this with no disrespect, but if i did work for something as a full template jedi, i want a reward...no reward means goodbye to SWG. i bought this game on launch day to become a jedi. that was my only goal in this game. in 2003 the devs said repeatedly a full template jedi can compete with 10 or more players if he knows how to play his class...is jedi hard..u bet it is...have you been a padawan in the CU? i bet you havent...so if you have a kind soul that will let you play a low level jedi for a day or two you will realize the faults of your argument.
If you dont work for a fulltemplate jedi, that is not my problem, but onlky yours...do you loose anything when dieng in pvp? no you dont as aregular class..you dont even loose buffs no more so stop the whinning...to many time i fight a regular class that loads into bestine and dies fast..you know what....if a player is dumb enough to load into a city where pvp is rampant it is not our fault..be carefull..play smart and group up for pvp(CU=grouping in everything). befor jedi were rampant in swg, i remebr very well how some professions were overpowered compared to others..i used to always get killed by CM/mrifleman, and people whined about that at the time...in the presnt the FOTM is bittttch at jedi, cause they worked for it for months but they can all go to hell right? common get real dude..when u fight a full template jedi, its like fighting a jedi knight....do you seriously think that han solo could beat luke skywalker after he became a knight? what about master windu chopping fetts head with one stroke..i mean a jedi is a jedi..u want to nerf jedi, than this is not a starwars game anymore.
You want to have that many jedi in the game then it is also not the starwars game anymore that we all signed up to play. Rare, Unique, almost impossible to attain....this is what a Jedi was supposed to be. Not what it is now. Any starport...any city....and popular POI (Krayt Graveyard filled with them). Its to much.
You ask me to be objective when you wanted to know if I have ever seen a Jedi in a starwars movie that can do more then others....fine. Of course my answer is yes. But now YOU be just as objective and tell me that the amount of jedi currently in game on every server is not out of hand. During the time in which this game takes place there are not supposed to be jedi running around freely in the open...yet I see you all everywhere.
I worked on the grind to be a jedi...I do know how tough it is TIMEWISE and I respect that time you have put into it. I have been in game since day 1 and that was my end goal as well. I got only 2 boxes away from getting all the Force sensitivity I needed...and then killed out every single Force Sensitive box on my own because I was just tired of seeing them everywhere. There is nothing unique about it anymore...it is not even hard to attain..it only takes time. There was no reason for me to just try and be the same as a large portion that is on every server already. But this is not a reason to Nerf every other profession (because you are having an issue with a Bounty Hunter and one of their specials). There are other ways around this with timers and specials that could be added in and hopefully will be added in for your profession to counter. But when I see folks from your profession go into an uproar on every messageboard in here trying to get things changed because it affects your skill negatively and not take into account how others survive (that are not jedi)....it doesnt go over to well by now.
And just remember....your full template jedi cant get along at all in the universe if folks just keep dropping off of the servers because there are a rediculous amount of you everywhere that would rather get the upperhand every single time over every single profession.
Dont you agree that it would get very old for the rest of us? The ones that make up the majority of the servers?

Thunderheart you just hit the problem how many post here by you before you finally said that the timer on stopping shot was not working and is bugged? 4 5 6 7? The player base has no idea what is bugged and what isnt bugged. cause you the devs wont tell us what is and isnt working. i have yet to see a page stateding what you guys consider is a bug so we know when to stop bugging it.
why dont jedi get the kd/blind.dizzy recovery skill at padawien or level , this will prevent all jedi from grabbing the same skill to get them?
And that is the key, fundamental problem with the CU.
What needs to happen, is the dev for each profession needs to make a post in their respective profession forums detailing EVERY attack and the complete and full description of that attack, how it works, and WHY it is supposed to be that way (the idea behind it). Also, the description MUST indicate IF it is, for example a state, or mez, if damage/DoT breaks it or not. At that point, players can submit ACCURATE bug reports as to what WORKS (not much, at this point), and what DOESNT (too much).
Of course, my post will be immediately dismissed because it makes too much sense....

Thunderheart it is clear by this and many other threads just how deep this jedi vs non-jedi animosity runs. The jedi OFTEN refer to non jedi as 'laymen', 'laypersons', 'mundanes', 'interactive NPC' and so on and so forth. They somehow have arrived at this sense of self entitlement that is evident in EVERYTHING they do and post. Everyhing should be given to them because they spent 6 months grinding. Wow, I have been playing this game since early beta. I have ground professions when some of these new players were still potty training. Every day I spend on average 30-60 minutes just filling out bug reports. I have been accepted to every Beta test and during those phases commited 3-4 hours a day finding and reporting bugs comming up with every way to break something I can think of. That kind of 'work' clearly is much much MUCH greater than the kind of 'work' some jedi spends playing a game and yet I have no special 'I win' button that makes these jedi fall over dead when they come within 30m of me. I dont fill the forums with page after page requesting you elevate everything specific to me and all the while bring down everyone around me.
