Can Wookiees wear this factoional armor? We want to have fun too.
I don't know, but I will find out next week.
Hey Thunderheart..good job on the armor. Can ithorians wear the rebel armor also? Thanks.
Definitely not the helmets, though the Ithorians will have a competative suit of armor for each tier. Early next week, I will sit down with the artists and put together an little armor chart that shows which species can wear the different suits.
Okay, I can live with that. But make sure the helmets match the actual suits of armor, or look relatively close to the orignal humanoid version! Thanks again man!![]()
The quoted post hits the nail on the head with this.

I don't want to get too negative... this is a great Firday Feature and I like the sounds of the new weapon/armor system.
However, these two people (and many others) are expressing a very important issue here.
"More Star Warsiness" does require more things from the movies.
Now, I know that the movies cannot supply us with everything, but the movies did in-fact set the tone for what things looked like during this era.
I was actually searching the internet the other day getting ready to post a thread with a bunch of links to the many authentic peices of armor that I was really hoping would have already made it into this game.
I feel it is about time that this game catches up to what is in the movies before it goes and creates more new designs.
I do believe that some of those Rebel outfits in the movies could have some kind of blast protection... we could also embelish those outfits to make them look a bit more like they would realisticly offer protection. I believe we all could have been swayed to accept slight changes to the canon outfits to make them more armor-like. Seriously... some kind of high-tech kevlar is possible... does anyone complain that mabari armor doesn't really have a lot of armor-like bits?
Padded armor isn't that much bulkier than some of the rebel's outfits.
Are Ubese jackets really that tough? The pants are just suede BTW.
I'm not trying to knock those armors... I'm just saying better use of what IS in the movies for Rebel Armor would be SO much better for this game and for the Star Wars fans that make up a large population of this game.
Instead of trying to make the canon attire fit into new armor designs, the team created completely different designs for Rebel Armor.
I'm not going to say it doesn't look good, or doesn't have any Star Warsy feel at all... but it is absolutely not what Fans of the Films (And there are many of us that play this game strongly because of that love of the films) picture when they think about Rebel Troops.
It does look more like something from Halo or any other Sci-Fi realm... and that will never equate to Star Wars.
The team should use the overall design of the original movies to guide their clothing and armor designs (definately influenced by the times the films they were created in).
People say some of those costumes looked goofy... Hello? We don't care what your opinions are of them... it IS what they wear in the Star Wars universe during this period!
I knew things would go like this when I first saw the Alliance Ace Helmet that you are rewarded for mastering their Pilot profession.
It's a fancy, more modern design of the ACTUAL helmet they wore in the movies. :/
I don't want a fancy face shield on my rebel helmet... I want the ones from the movies.
Heck, we want the X-Wing helmet, the Y-Wing helmet, the A-Wing helmet, the Tantive Helmet, the Imperial Trooper helmet (Black and similar to the one the rebs wear on the corvette), the Death Star Gunner Helmet, the AT-ST Commander Helmet...
Here's a simple rule to follow when designing for Star Wars.
Many things in Star Wars are old fashioned cliches... Black and White, Good Guys and Bad Guys.
The Western Bandit wears the black hat and the good guys' faces are not covered/hidden (unless they're in disguise of course).
You have to see the heroes faces... that is Star Wars canon.
It's all about classic approaches.
It's like the difference between the WWF of the 80's (Good Guys vs. Bad Guys)and the WWE today(Nobody is really a Good Guy).
Sorry, but Star Wars is based on the theme classic theme that good must overcome evil.
The problem isn't our opinion that we don't like the look of the armor because it's not what they wore on the movies.
The problem is that this is the telling face of SWG. And it opposes the face of the SW movies.
I vote for the movies any day and am very disappointed that SOE does not feel the same.
I have no problem with these armors being introduced, but I absolutely believe that authentic movie helmets NEED to take priority over these new designs.
PLEASE put in AUTHENTIC movie helmets... there are SO many that you have not put in.
I hope this post comes off as respectfully as I mean this to be... this is a great game (and a GAME) and I never want that fact to be lost in these discussions.

Silver - Im glad you posted in a way that would make it easy for me to respond =P
Im glad you think it is an improvement and I know that the new Rebel armor won't be for everyone. It certainly is for me. Back when I was a kid and fell in love with Star Wars, I fell for it because it had that gritty sci-fi feel to it. The new armor (again, I am speaking just personally) really brings that feel back for me.
From another standpoint, where I can certainly empathize with the look and feel of the Rebels in the movies, we never saw battlefield armor outside of Hoth. What we did see though was that Rebels had gear for different types of situations. The new Faction Rebel armor is for heavy battle action.
And like I said, when we did all the research on Rebel Armor (which is not gray khakis and a black vest), what was available just didn't have the grit and oomph that the Imperial Faction armor had.
There is another aspect to consider. For every piece of armor that is out there, there has to be a special helmet to accommodatethe heads, etc. By covering the face and head, we can make one helmet for the majority of the species (sans Wookiees and Ithorians). By making those choices, we were able to get four newtypes of armor included into the CU and I like that.
But speaking directly to your concerns, there is two things to consider. The first is that this new armor system makes adding different types of armor in the future much easier (relatively). The other is that those familiar gray khakis and black vest with the clamshell helmet is Star Wars and something the team is keeping in mind.
I'm working with the loot team to get that clamshell helmet into the game as a loot drop. That gets most of the key wearables for that "look" in the game. Now we just have to enable all the folks that don't want to wear armor but participate in heavy combat get the protection they need. It's too early to talk about, but that is a consideration in play and one that I know is important to the community.

And that's probably not a coincidence. I wouldn't be surprised if the films' Rebel helmets (clamshell, Endor, various pilots) are deliberately open faced because Lucas wanted to convey exactly that.
My impression was that the Mabari, bone, and padded helmets fit on all eight "humanoid" species, and they're all open faced. Wouldn't it be possible to make more?

The rebel armor was pretty difficult actually. The thing is, the armor in ANH isn't armor - - they were just wearing gray chakis and a black vest. It wasn't armor. We did quite a bit of research on rebel armor and none of it looked as cool as the Imperial armor so we developed the new rebel armor types and LucasArts approved the designs, so here they are!
But when you think about it, isn't the recon/marine armor also pretty much just clothing? Only armor parts are the boots, helmet and some odd shoulderpads. Quite honestly, the Tantive (Corvette) trooper outfit would work just as well as armor as the current marine armor. (And it would look much better too!).
Disclaimer: The followingis not meant to be a flame, whine or such. it's just an honest question.
But here is what I am wondering: Is there some form of rule among the developers to not give rebels their proper movie-styleequipment?
I mean, sure the clothing outfits the rebels wore can be crafted by tailors, but whenever some form of faction rewarded rebel equipment is added, it seems to be some form of new design.
For example: Instead of getting one of the properrebel pilothelmets (any of the three styles)we've seen in the movies, the rebels got a modfied version of one of them for some reason. How come? Wouldn't it have been as easy to just remove that awful facemask and give the rebels their proper helmet?
And more such examples can be found: The marine armor (instead of the Corvette outfit/armor), the wrong colored B-wing suit, etc. Why can't the rebels ever get what they wore in the movies? I'm just wondering here...
