Thread: Friday Feature March 4th – New Desktop Wallpaper!

I've been a programmer for 12 years now (professionally that is, 20 overall). I've learned three things from coding for other people...

  1. never promise a hard date on any code delivery, just on the final product

  2. never tell anyone everything you know

So have I, that's why I said I understand things can be delayed, but if I tell my boss I'll have an update on why the project is delayed next week, and then do it again the following week my butt would be canned. How about you? I could care less when it comes out, I like many others just want to know what the deal is, and why it's being delayed.

Had he posted something saying, "well do to the fact that some of the systems of the CU have been a little harder to code than others, we've been delayed" or "The finalization of how the CU is going to work is encountering some road blocks due to such & such" people wouldn't be flaming as much.

Honestly I used to feel bad for the devs when they'd come on the boards have to deliver some bad news. But what I've seen in the last 2 years (including beta) shows me that they love shotting themselves in the foot. I could of told you he was going to get flamed coming out with Wallpapers. this almost tells me they had no plan for a FF this week , and relied on the post earlier this week to come up with an idea.

I know it's not really TH's fault but unfortunately the messenger sometimes gets shot, and after all he is the community correspondant (or whatever) he is the voice of SOE for us, he's the only one we can really vent our frusterations on.

Sorry TH, but we were expecting something a little, err, bigger. Nice wallpapers though.


We look forward to Friday Features every week, save neat little things like this for another day--- give us CU info on Friday. But as of now, it would be nice to get CU info before next friday's feature- Can't wait that long.

And you wonder why the player base is getting cynical. And what happened to the FF that you told Commandos was coming 6 months ago? As much as I hate to say it Thunderheart, your trustworthyness isn't very good right now with the player base.


If its not ready or some important parts of the information changed, that would render what was going to be featured obsolete. Then be honest about it and say so, at least people would respect you more. But this promising something and then doing something completely different, not only makes you look bad but the Dev Team as well.

Wallpaper? What happened to the big Entertainer announcement?


Do we not even deserve the courtesty of a "next week" post, when this week IS the next week you spoke of LAST week?

Umm, but yeah, the wallpapers are nice.


Now, back to getting Entertainers out of the AFK and macro HELL they're in right now...each week puts another dent in the morale of those of us who PLAY Entertainers.


You can't meet timeframes you stated, hey, I understand man. But treat us like we're something above nothing and give us a NEW estimate as your previous one has now expired.


Don't post it here, go ahead and post it in the Music, Dance, and Entertainer forums. Go ahead, it's the exact same process as any other forum...it's gonna be okay, we're gonna get through this together.

One thing I am asking myself after reading all of the responses since is where is Calandryll? He tooted that communication horn pretty loudly and we seem to be right back to square one. I myself put a lot of stock in what the new crew said and here we are again. SSDD.

Let me turn your attention, if you will, to mmorpgchart.com. Particular areas of interest are the "Market Share by MMOG" and "Analysis and Conclusion" links.

I am apathetic towards this this Friday Feature - I feel that, as great as wallpapers are (I'm gonna be hard pressed to replace my '05 Z06 background), our community needs something a little more substantial. This thread has been up for just over an hour and has received flame after flame - very little constructive discussion is happening simply because the community is so disappointed.

I feel that SWG is a game that stands out among other MMO's and has a very unique style of playing that you can't get from games like EQII or WoW. It's a matter of personal taste, but since we've all commited our money and countless hours in order to 'live' in the Star Wars Universe, I think some better communication isn't too much to ask.

Idon't think I have to remind you, TH, that SOETyrant's post last week to "not give up just yet, positive changes are on the way next week,"was an almost immediate response to a Musician's concerns for the future of our profession, given that Jukeboxes can hurt our importance at live events.


You guys gave an estimated delivery date to Entertainers.


Meet the deadline or explain what's going on to the Entertainers and set a new ETA for the announcement of whatever SOETyrant was talking about. There were lots of irritated folks last week, and having nothing show up, no word, NOTHING this week isn't exactly going to make them tiptoe through the tulips, you dig?


Don't patronize us. Don't placate us with false hopes. We're not unreasonable with timeframe changesand sliding schedules - but at the very least we're owed an explanation of why our stuff isn't showing up this week. We were told by Tyrant something was coming our way. So what happened. We're fully aware by watching our Correspondents' post counts skyrocket that SOMETHING is being done, so tell us if there's a delay - the last thing we heard was we're getting something this week, which was a means of calming us down LAST week over something that seriously upset our community.


I'm not playing this game of "piss me off one week, promise me something's coming next week, piss me off next week when nothing shows up, hope for some informationthrough a 3rd party." Let's just cut to the chase, and have someone inform the Entertainers about what the heck is going on, please. Thank you.
