Slicer and master smuggler do NOT have the same stats. The maximum slice on a weapon for a slicer is 30% while it tops out at 35% for a master smuggler. Armor slices also get an increase at master.

Well that's a complete lie.

I'm just a Slicer, not a master smuggler, and I have gotten over 30% slices quite regularly.

My best is a Composite Helmet (53% protection, 270(ish) Mind Enc) Sliced for 35%. Dropped it down to 170 Mind Encumberance, which is most reasonable now

The key? Use better quality slicing knives. I use 987 Conductivity copper, on a workstation, so I can experiment, and I got 2 amazing successes (one for craft, one for experimentation) and got the laser knife to a quality rating of 44%.

Seems to make a difference Having said that, the slices are random. I still get 9% slices from time to time.. but when you get that 35% slice on Expensive Composite armor, it really makes your day

Maybe you should all go read the FAQ in the Smuggler forum that explains the cutoffs for Slicing IV and Master Smuggler quite clearly (which are different, but I'll let you go read the specifics for yourselves)

I wish I had $1 for every moron who posts that there's no bonus to Master.

/sigh

It's called read the smuggler boards.

Yes, Master Smugglers get at least a 5% higher ceiling to both weapons and armor, and generally tend to get higher avg. slices too because of this.

Agato, weapon slices top off at 35% at master. Armor slices top off at 45% at master. As a slicer you would have 30% and 40% respectively. So you're still getting slicing %'s within your skill if you slice armor. I've tried the "make uber knives and clamps to increase your average" thing, but out of 50 slices with the best tools, i averaged 22% on weapons. With only average tools (about 19% craft), i averaged 20%.The weapons that I was slicing were from a weaponsmith grinder. About half were FWG5's and the other Laser Rifles. Nearly identical stats per weapon from each type. I probably should have tried to take the average from more slices, but i'm poor and it takes forever to gather the resources for and make an insane amout of tools. But then again, I could be wrong about the whole thing seeing how there hasn't been an official statement about the quality of tools and the slice percent.

I've a question regarding slicing. I have two locked containers I need slicing to open them. My questions are:

1. Do I hand over the container to be sliced and hope the person doing it returns it to me?

2. Can they open the container once it's sliced? In other words, could they slice it, take whatever's inside (if there is anything) then just say, "no, it was empty" and hand it back to me?

3. What's the going rate (in terms of cost) to geta locked container sliced open?

Unfortunately I haven't seen many slicing-skilled players around to ask..

Thanks,

Tyl

I am a Master, my highest % so far was 44, I am led to believe the cap is 45% for a Master.

I have also noticed a reduction in the amount of 'bad' slices (under 15%).

As for containers... yes we can look in them, yes we can get stuff out of them and lie, but we can also go (LD) after taking a suit of composite and a load of weapons off a customer.

Master Smugglers have a rep to protect, it's our livelyhood after all, and a very lucrative one.

My advice, find a smuggler you trust for the containers from high level mobs - these are the only ones with useful stuff - and a novice for one from regular mobs. They need the xp, usually payyou and the container will most likely be empty or have a CDEF and a Warm hat if you are lucky.

Chances are the smuggler will hand it back to you. He slices it for XP, you get an unlocked container and some cheap cdef rifle or other trinket

2. Can they open the container once it's sliced? In other words, could they slice it, take whatever's inside (if there is anything) then just say, "no, it was empty" and hand it back to me?

Once its sliced you can open it. Most containers will contain useless items. Most of the slicers I have seen don't bother to open the container

3. What's the going rate (in terms of cost) to geta locked container sliced open?

Should be free. Some smugglers will even pay for the locked container. Just see a novice smuggler. He's looking for XP, and you are looking for an unsliced container. Just never ask a slicer or master smuggler to slice a container. They don't usually do it. Find someone who needs the XP to slice it for ya.

Unfortunately I haven't seen many slicing-skilled players around to ask..

Well, the answer is 'it depends'. If you want to do PvP it can be worth it with the right template combos. If you aren't that concerned with PvP then it defintely is worth it. Smuggler seems to be somewhere between a fighter & a crafter. Overall though I like it and refuse to drop Master Smuggler. You can slice your own gear, and if done correctly you can make decent money. Check the FAQs here for some good template ideas. For PvP some common one's I've seen are Smuggler/Commando, Smuggler/Pistoleer, Smuggler/TKA and what I've seen on the boardscalled the Smuggler Triple Crown--- Smuggler/TKA/Pistoleer. Others geared at making credits-- Smuggler/Weaponsmith, Smuggler/Armorsmith, Smuggler/Chef (spice & food stack ).

A few tips if you go Master-- buy a food & chem factory, and a small equip factory. (f&c for spices, equip for knives, clamps, AUKs & WUKs). Buy or deal your way into clamps until you can make your own. Either get into a guild with an AS & WS or work out a deal to slice gear for a few in exchange for AUKs & WUKs or schematics for them. You won't be able to make the kits, but schematics can be traded. And shoot pistols until your eyeballs bleed. And once you DO get the Master Smuggler title, NEVER NEVER NERVER show it in game.

Hope this helps.

To Do List:
[ X ] Master Smuggler profession
[ X ] Buy JTL so I can have a personal spaceship to Smuggle goods
[ ] Wait until Smuggler Revamp to be able to actually Smuggle well, ANYTHING.
Well, SOE? I've done MY part.
