Novice medic a waste of 15 skillpoints? Not likely, I find it invaluable when up against high-end mobs or in the hard dungeons. I have 2.0.0.0 Medic, which means I can use the stim B's to heal myself and and I can use first aid to stop bleeding on myself or another.
I don't see this as making Doctors/medics/combat medics less useful, I see it as making myself a little more useful *to* the doctor etc - I can take care of the relatively minor injuries myself, leaving the real party healer to concentrate on those that need it and take the pressure of his blue bar.
Of course, when soloing, the combination of 2.0.0.0 medic and the brawler skills give me far greater longevity. I can reduce the opponents damage and heal my own damage and stop the bleeds.

Yes as a Ranger I feel that I need basic medic stills, its my clasic play style. After holding onto Master Ranger for about 3 mounths,i gave some of it up, just to craft and use stim C's. It most assuredly keeps me alive when I am solo, and make's me a bit more useful in group combat. I have no delusions of replaceing a doctor, but as stated above, the doc's can allways use a little help.

I think you all are forgetting Teras Kasi Meditate, you either have that or Medic/doc.

I have novice medic so I can heal my own wounds, all the docs are too busybuffing to actually heal someone.

15 points on medic a waste? Not from where I'm looking.
Master Ranger/Rifles, so I want to spend as much time in the wilderness, working at what I do, not traipsing back and forth to town every time my HAM bar takes a pummelling. A HTFB and some stims and I'm a happy camper
Having said that, over time wounds build up or you have an unfortunate 'forgot to clone' incident, so it's off to town for some R&R.
One thing I'd ask any docs and ents that pass by this thread, PLEASE, register your location on the map, huh? It takes a second to type /reg when you enter a cantina or hospital, that way the apssing trade knows there's somebody home

If you are a melee PvE'er and looking to go solo, novice medic is the most essential skill. You will be able
to use stims B which can heal up to 700 health and action points, if crafted with advanced components.
Dispenser droids are useless, they can only use stims A, which heal you around 50 points and if the mob you are
fighting uses area attacks, it's destroyed in no time.
I would also advice you to grab 2000 medic, as that makes you able to heal bleeds, which can be very nasty since
npcs got their specials back.

After getting master ranger I threw my extra SP onto medic. I dropped those SP this week for artisan (vendor) and I've gotta say, I miss it. The stim B use along with the ability to heal my own wound were REALLY nice. Without meditate, wounds pile up over time and as a ranger who's out in the wild for extended periods, I don't like having to head back to down if I get a disease.
IMO, not a waste at all.

I dropped nov. medic once, but it drove me totally nuts to have to stand around watching while someone in my hunting party died because I couldn't throw a simple Stim-B at them. Also, asmentioned its also pretty handy when you get in over your head hunting alone to be able to heal yourself a bit.
The guild I just recently left was originally set up as a school for teaching TK skills to noobs, with the idea that as you mastered you then would in turn teach other people... neat idea and I know a lot of the people I trained seemed to really appreciate the one-on-one or small group training that we did, as it helped them not only level up faster but also to learn how to hunt better, etc. Anyways, my point is that it would be almost pointless to take a student out to hunt if you didn't have at least nov medic to heal them with.
By the way, thanks for explaining those funny little stimpack droids... to bad they only take A-stims, they really are pretty useless as is. (Hint hint - TH, a "B" Stim bot would be a pretty cool improvement)
Cheer,

Medic is pointless if you are a high combat class. If you really need that desperation heal to escape, take some spice or food and burst outta there.
I'm TKM, MSmuggler, Pistoleer. Medic is pointless for me. First I never get hurt enough in PvE and even if I did I can use FD. In PvP, stimBs will only give you back half of a hit from another elite profession before you go down.
Poping stims in the middle of a battle is pretty unrealistic anyway. Only docs, cms, and droids should be able to heal someone engaged in combat, not the combatant.

If you can, go 0040 medic. For just 29 skill points, you can use stim Ds or Es, and have heals hit for as high as 1600 or more, prolly 500 at a minimum. Throw on a +25 injury treatment piece of clothing, and the skill points prove themselves very well spent, especially if you plan on killing any jedi in pvp. If you're just going to pve, I'd go for at least novice medic to use stim bs. In any case, you should have medic in your template until you're down to your last few skill points, and have the ups and downs of your template really figured out.

/shrug - different play styles, no biggie.I have found many times where being able to heal myself allowed me to finish off a creature or NPC rather than having to flee.If nothing else, there are definately times when its nice to be able to support weaker players and the only way to do this is with Nov Medic. For this reason alone, I will never be without this skill again...

Sounds like your template is very similar to mine. Not sure what part of Pistols you have, I'm 0044. Regardless, I DO find times when I get hurt enough in PvE that its nice to be able to heal myself, and once again, being able to support other players is very important to me... As for PvP, yes I would agree with you and don't typically try to use this skill in this arena, not that its one I get into very often mind you, but typically the hits are pretty strong as most PvPers seem to be maxed out on SEA's and use uber weapons, and/or have practiced enough that they are very skilled in what they do. Add to this that most attack the unhealable mind pool, and once again, nov medic becomes useless in PvP. However, back to PvE, it is very handy...

Don't know, if I had a RL wound and had a shot I could give myself to boost or stabalize my stats, I would sure try to use it, hehe. Same with applying my own bandages...

I think it really comes down to a difference in the style of playing and perhaps I don't spend as much time perfecting my combat skills as others do, because I seem to spend so much time in other areas of the game, i.e. training other guild members, doing guild leadership functions, and crafting. As a result perhaps I, and others like me, need the benifits of nov medic more than you do.
Bottom line for ME? I personally will never have my combat toon without Nov Medic again. Dropped it once for like a day and just didn't like the bare naked feeling it gave me, hehe
Best regards, and please don't view this as a flame. It's not intended that way. I just find it interesting to discuss different points of view regarding the game...

Novice Medic is a waste of skill points. Back in the day it was needed. Today its a waste. With buffs and food the way they are I never die in PvE and I dont even have an uber template (Master Rifles and Master BH). When I was Master Rifles and Master Swordsman it really was a waste. I cant remember the last time I had Novice Medic, bought a Stim B or popped one its been that long, ive been playing since day 2.
In PvP its still a waste to have, you just die to darn quick for it to matter.
Last reason its a waste. If you happen to die, so what. Clone, rebuff, eat and continue.
