What about the grand majority of people who DO celebrate Christmas for both the religious purpose and the tradition of bringing families together? Christians, Catholics, Jewish, Athiests... Most all celebrate Christmas.

The developers, along with the rest of this crumbling nation, are already whiting out Christmas by replacing it with "holiday" in an attempt to rid the world of Christ. It's enough you can't even name a vendor or house or item in SWG Christmas but you can Channukah or any other "holiday."

Amen and Amen

I don't remember a single mention of Jesus Christ in any Star Wars movie.

What's up with the religious crusade? Happy Holidays is a great way to say to everyone, regardless of beliefs or religion, hey - enjoy this time of year, when we all get a little cheerier (well, most of us) and a little friendlier, and we are all reminded of the true value of family and love.

If it's all about Christ to you, that's fine. That's your call. When you deal with a diverse population, however, it's common courtesy to be mindful of other's beliefs. Not everyone is a Christian. If the Devs came out and just said "Merry Christmas, everyone!" then they'd alienate thefolks who play this game (i.e. their paying customers) who AREN'T Christians, who have every right NOT to be Christians, and who don't want Christianity thrust upon them while playing a Star Wars game. It'd also makethem feel like they're weird or different for not observing Christmas.

And, don't tell me you wouldn't be the slightest bit offended by a couple of vendors called:

"The Body of Christ Foods"

"The Blood of Christ Drinks"

Trust me, people will always find a way to offend. Keeping that word out of this game is not only based on Star Wars, it prevents a nightmare of policing immature and inconsiderate people. Then, folks like you might start screaming and hollering in the forums, "How can you allow people to do this in the name of my Lord and Savior?!?! Boycott SOE!"

And, I guarantee you that missionary types, who can never NOT be talking about Jesus and how we should join their religion, would make such wonderful vendors as:

"Believe in Christ and follow his teachings."

"Jesus saves - ask me how"

"Christ leads the way to salvation"

Nothing says Star Wars to me like having Jesus pushed on me.

So, ease up on the crusade. I see little reason for a campaign to bring Christinto SWG. He was never in Star Wars in the first place.

Check your e-mail people. TH, I kinda feel bad. You come out on the forums, say there isn't going to be a gift, and TADA!!!!!!!

TH from 12/18 - "Sorry, but there will be no "automatic" Christmas gift this year.

I do want to thank the events team for pulling all of the Life Day events together though."

MEANWHILE, I come home tonight and my e-mail account says SOE is giving 75k to each character per server.....

C'MON! A LITTLE BIT of communication would be nice!

THE 75K HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS.

It's only for JTL people who get JTL - so that they can actually BUYa new SHIP.

Look are your server's economy. Could a brand new player EVER afford a new ship (like a Tier 1 and 2) AND pay for all their repairs easily? The Devs decided to make the newbie ships have a hyperdrive, and they gave this to JTL folks only to offset the new players who get SWG and JTL, and say "Great, now I can't do anything, i have no money, and I just want to fly around in space."

Everyone needs to settle down a bit. Look forward to your presents in REAL life, not some digital entity that you'll just stuff in a house anyways. I mean, really - with all the loot junk from JTL and all the other stuff that's soon to come with the Loot Revamp, you're gonna need all the inventory you can get, anyways. Because the Devs refuse to give us more inventory, and instead we use up all our lots for houses (especially me, as a crafter).

The 75k has NOTHING to do with Christmas. It has EVERYTHING to do with new players getting JTL FOR Christmas, and not being able to repair their ships/buy new ships/function in our overinflated economies. Wouldn't THAT be a delightful Christmas present? A cool new game, looks great, but you can't even afford a CDEF pistol because you blew up in space too many times, while learning the ropes?

The gift is lame, im sorry and I know it sounds greedy but its lame.

75k? Have they looked at the economy lately?

Aside from that, you must have JTL to claim this gift. How lame is that??? Is that supposed to promote sales for JTL?

"Buy our $50 game and well give you enough money for a CDEF pistol"

Lame, lacking in creativity, greedy, discriminating present.

They could cancel this game tomorrow and I wouldn’t lose a bit of sleep over it, and IM JEDI!!

75k isn't a Christmas gift!

And who cares - it's a free 75k.

IT'S FOR PEOPLE WHO GET JTL FOR CHRISTMAS, so they can survive in our overinflated economies for awhile, repair their ships, actually BUY a ship or two, etc.

Tell me where in that email it says "Merry Christmas from SOE, here's your 75k gift."

The more I play SWG and the more I read the forums, the more I think that there are a lot of people whom are very unhappy that are playing this game. They never seem to be happy with anything. I'm sorta glad that I'm not a DEV on this game, because it must be rough always reading the same things from disgruntled players.

I do believe that we have a right to complain with this game, especially since we are paying a monthly fee for it, but some of it is just ridiculous. Please, just try to give it a rest. Just try.

Sure, I'd like to receive a Christmas gift from SOE, but since the Star Wars Universe does not really have Christmas, I'd rather see something like a voucher for a free month of play. Something real.

For those of you whom do not celebrate Christmas, or do not think that you should even have to look at any Christmas things, I kinda agree with you, but the way the world is, you'll have to get over it, or you'll drive yourself mad.

Christmas is for kids, and retailers. Christ wasn't even born very close to Christmas, the tradition was started to make the Christian holiday more palatable to the pagans whom were being forced into Christianity by their Roman Emporer. At least into an acceptance of the religion. It's like Easter... when Christ rose from the dead... it is celebrated with things like bunnies, eggs, chickens and baby animals.... it was a fertility holiday that was melded with a Christian one. These things just make me laugh, and a little bit too hard sometimes. It really is funny, from a certain point of view.

I applaud you, well put - Happy Holidays

And with that note, I'm done with all of this. Thanks for the sweet Matriarch/Patriarch paintings, Devs. And the Life Day robe - my wook's been wearing it with pride ever since. I wasn't in-game last year, so it was neat getting one of those robes, finally. And my Orb is a treasured gift from a friend gone to WoW - it's very symbolic of Life Day, and reminds me of those gone and who are missed.

I look forward to the New Year, and some serious work on all the professions' top issues, which has lingered for pretty much all of 2004. And, of course, the Combat Upgrade/GCW Revamp. You guys sure have your work cut out for you - rest while you can!

Happy Holidays, Devs!

let me been by saying i dont write much on the forums, but it doesnt mean im new either, been playing since september 2003. one of the reasons i was looking in the forums was to see any info on Christmas gifts like last year. Last year there was a Life day with the same gifts given out. I should know cuase i have them. I dont have the paintings but they were there last year too, very rare though. But unlike this year from the sounds of it, we arent getting nothing but maybe an extra 75k in credits...which is fine i will take it, but i will tell you where we are getting jipped. Last year everyone got at least 1 holocron and 1 piece of art, and if you were on more than 30 days(or some time period) you got a total of 2 holocrons and 2 pieces of art...in which there was a total of 3 different types of art given out. NO for those who might not know or remember, this time last year jedi was a rumor..could someone tunr or not. And the Devs was keeping it a secret. So Holocrons were worth millions cause you had to open them to see what you needed to master to become jedi. And yet they gave out 2 of them.

Now I'm not one to complain much about receiving gifts, a gift is a gift and will gladly take what ever. But for those who think we are not getting jipped on the value of it think again. The devs are pushing the loot system to help drive the economy, but for some reason they choose to go with just the life day stuff, and possible 75k. As for being able to buy a new ship....one only has to fly for 15 minutes in space to collect enough space loot to sell to the Chassis Dealer to make enough for that. Or become shipwright if the want. As a player whose playing this game for over a year, I must say I am kinda disappointed about the gift thing. What can we expect at the 2 year mark in July. 2 types of paintings and 10k for everyone. They set the standard kind of, and they can/could keep the momentum up by giving out something on the same line. They have the veteran rewards thing atleast to hand the stuff out. Even on the 1 year mark when they gave out 1 painting out of 9 or 10, that drove the trade wild. But for those who have been playing over a year, we have the robes and orbs, so we were kinda wanting something else. We all dont mind gifts but getting "socks" every year isnt that exciting.

Thunderheart already clearly stated that there would be no automatic Christmas gifts this year. Don't expect that to change.

However, there is a Life Day gift if you care to pick it up. The paintings areartwork just like the sculptures we received last year. There are no holocrons, but mine is just sitting in my house along with the artwork. I kind of think of it as a very small square blue sculpture.

There is a 75k credit gift to allJTL players. This is not a holiday gift and can be recieved by new toons as well as old (once per galaxy) at any time up until January 31. This is limited to JTL because it is an incentive for those that try JTL just like the yacht and flash speeder.

We even just had an announcement that there are three entirely new swoop tracks installed for your holiday enjoyment. I saw someone that said they would be happy with just one new swoop track for the holidays. Well they are live. Get on your swoops and go. I'll bet you can even paint your bikes red and green if you must.

Whatever you do don't go asking forsnow on Tatooine this Christmas. The last time there was snow on Tatooine the Krayts went into hibernation for 17 years and the Banthas almost all died off.

I got the 75k email too... Is this a joke? I mean come on, we make a rant thread and SOE's response is to bribe us with 75k? Alright, well considering all the Life Day paintings are going for like 500k and WAY up on the auctions, I may be able to pay for the sales tax since all I got was another stupid Orb.

Try harder SOE, really, please try harder.

You must be the kind of person who gets a present, unwraps it and says to the gift giver, "Gee, thanks for the present, but it isn't good enough for me. why don't you try harder next time?"

You know what most people would call that? Rude, inconsiderate, greedy, ungrateful and selfish.

You're lucky you get anything. Smile and say thank you.

You are absolutely right. We should cater to the minority like we do with everthing else in this country because gosh, we don't want to hurt anyones feelings. You must have been sleeping in history calss when the fact that our country and it's principles were founded by christians was discussed.
