Thread: Tuesday Tips May 24th Stopping Shot
So then you remove root and jedi kill BH in 4 hits again because of the almighty lightsabre and force heals...and you kill the BH profession....you're screwed either way.

Shouldn't there be a timer on this to prevent repeat/chain attempts?

Now in a multi-player PvP situation, it is entirely possible for four pistoleers to "chain-root" a single opponent in combat, but hopefully that person brought along friends
This is the case for knockdown (a timer), and that's a state that can at least be recovered from.
Once rooted, we should be immune from +root+ a for a certain amount of time.
There have been discussions about giving the root a chance to break on damage, but nothing definitive yet.

As a low-level Jedi I have died twice to BHs because of rooting. I was rooted, and while I could not move they just pounded on me from a distance. There was nothing I could do about it for more than 30 seconds each time. Rooting = instance death? No way to recover or break from it? How on earth can anyone think that is fair?

Yes, everyone agrees. Stopping Shot is a great tactic in PvE. It can definitely put a player in a rough spotin PvP. It is also important to consider that the BH/Jediuse of this abilityis part ofa larger situationthanthe use of a single move.

TH, please keep PVE in mind when applying any changes to Root.
I never do PVP, and I'd hate to see root nerfed into uselessness because some people were abusing it in PVP.
Perhaps give PC's high resistances to Root?
That is craptastic. The problem is anyone can be ground to a halt. Never in video gaming should someones toon be held in 1 location by another player. Slowing them down is 1 thing. Stopping movement totally is a bug. You shouldn't be able to stop a creature totally from movement either. You should be relying on a tank to keep range. Its called balance. If everyone in a group is ranged a creature should jump on them and pwnzer them. That group is not balanced. It would be like in guild wars forming a group of elementalists ONLY and expecting to not need a tanker and then bitching that my group of elementalists couldn't win. Duh! This is just lame.
As for you getting together and discussing this issue. What kind of organization do you guys work in? You need to have an internal meeting dragging 10 people into a room for opinions, discussions and coffee? I thought this was a video game?
The larger issue is the cu stinks and is just another series of exploitable bugs. Discuss that in your meeting.

I'll add my 2c for what it's worth, in brief.
On Saturday, I was attacked by 3 Bounty Hunters. They kept me chain rooted for 34 minutes. At one point, I was bidding on an auction (MDefender, Aura and Improved Infusion...)
To say the least, I got bored so eventually stopped healing. I died, and was able to continue on. It was an eye opening experience.
Isn't the real problem here that someone can somehow survive three people constantly shooting at him for 34 minutes without even paying attention on what he's doing?

Folks, please lets discuss the issues and not attack each other.
Thank you.
The issue is, yet again SOW has delivered an UNFAIR, UNBALANCED game mechanism that allows one group of players to grief/kill another player, with no risk or penalty to themselves. I have never EVER seen a game that creates as much hate and animosity between players as this game does. And you guys still just dont seem to get it...you are proud of your borked, imbalanced coed, that provides an unstoppable I win button, in a system that already provides for 5v1 ganking.

didn´t you brought in the resolution with todays update? with nerfing the saber action costs Jedis are cancelling their accounts everywhere, so no Jedis anymore, no need to fix it![]()
No more Jedi? SWEET.
HatErZ
Anyway this runs deeper than JEDI lol these same tactics are easily applied in non JEDI PVP reason JEDI gripe is becasue we are the only ones with risk in pvp aka xp loss gaurantee every BH would start kickin an dflailin if they lost Investigation boxes upon a certain number of deaths say three
Maybee Jedi wouldn't run around like the own SWG if they lost a box every time a BH killed them....oh wait...they did that..and Jedi whined. Be smart...stay off the terms...or stay in yer house
In an attempt to actually provide a tip, I offer this:
When placing decorations, be they signs, paintings, weapons, etc. against walls, I've found that if you /move back 5 once they're where you want them, they won't appear to flicker as much when you walk into the room and see them. I've done this in my house and my ship to quite noticeable effect. Five units usually isn't enough to notice unless you stand off to the side.

Each week, we start a thread for you to share game tips with fellow players. Please be sure to join in and add your helpful tip.
Do you have a little known command you use all the time?
A cool place to visit?
A trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here.
The Pistoleer profession has a useful ability called, "Stopping Shot". Stopping Shot is a special ability that is a ranged attack against an opponent's legs and feet that has the ability to stop their forward movement for a very short time however very little damage is usually done.
This is a very useful ability to have either as part of professions or as a helpful member in a group because it "roots" or "stops" an opponent in their tracks for a short period of time.
he Pistoleer simply has to fire his Stopping Shot attack on an enemy. The group will know it was successful because they will all see fly-away text that reads +Rooted+ and also an animation of red rings around the legs and feet of the target. Once this combat message has been seen, it's time to let loose and do as much damage as possible for the duration of the rooting ability. If you have a melee combatant in your group, it is also helpful to root and enemy so they don't have to run very far and can do the maximum amount of damage.
Do you have a useful tip that you want to share with your fellow Star Wars Galaxies players? E-mail it to SWGTips and if we select the tip we'll post it as the Tuesday Tip and give you the credit! Send us the character name and server you'd like us to include if we post the tip.
