Cool, interesting, and unique. Im glad I am working toward TK, Swords, and Fencer. I will be able to use all of the melee weapons I think. I also think they should try to put out a new polearm though, but they might have but not shown us. Keep em coming!

Hmm.

:: Looks toward the Proton Rifle and the Proton Carbine. ::

Why do I get the impression that there's a Heckler & Koch fan on the Dev team for the Combat Upgrade now?

The Proton Carbine is obviously inspired by the HK G36, and the Proton Rifle looks frighteningly similar to the original winning design schematic for the United States' new Objective Individual Combat Weapon ... an Alliant Techsystems project that was spearheaded largely by H&K as well.

Mind you, I'm not complaining in the least. I think the guns are awesome. I'm just curious as to who designed those two, as it's directly indicative that we probably have a person with a real-world love of firearms working on the ranged portion of the Combat Upgrade. I'd love to find out if there's a means of communicating directly with this individual ...

And what do you think all the original guns were? Ever herd of the Sterling Mark 4, Lewis Gun, MG42, or Broomhandled Mauser? There are more, but i'm just listening examples. Point is, Most of the Early Star Wars guns were built out of World War 2 era weaponry with little modifcation. MOST weapons look like "real" ones. I understand your point, but it's really nothing new. So long as we are getting new weapons, I'm more than happy.

Calandryll (Jonathan):

Would it be a violation of any sort of SOE policy for you to tell us who designed the new guns? ... or at least the two in the Proton series?

And to those flaming the fact that some of the new weapons look like real ones, you need to take the gun knowledge you learned through playing Counter Strike and go back to the drawing board. Most weapons in this game are based on ones from the real world ... :: Points up toward Harlequin's post. :: ... even if the designs are based on somewhat unfamiliar weapons to the modern era. There's nothing wrong with thisat all ... fiction emulates reality. It always has, and always will.

As for we few who are actually firearms connoisseurs in real life, I think this all looks very promising ...

Oh... So you're complaining because they look too realistic?

I think that's a compliment to the designers. Good job artists and desginers!

Some of my pet peeve bugs:
•Armorsmith protection layers were not converted with the CU.
•Ship Details window does not close when you click "Travel" resulting in the message "You have lost the target. Closing interface."

Actually, the MG34, wich was a german ww2 machine gun, was nearly unmodified in the movies. The lewis gun, had only a few gadgets added and a "scope" put on backwards..a redpoint scope I believe.

the MG42 (now named MG-3) was somewhat modified, but was more or less more visible as a mg42 than the "proton" weapons the devs gave us now.

Even the Jawa Ion rifle, was based on ww2 weapons, if I don't remember wrong, it was either a Mauser or a Lee Enfield they cut the barrel off, added a tin can, added some metal and hooses..voila, Jawa Ion Rifle.¨

The DL-44, was based on a german ww1 pistol even.

I hope the certifications for some of these weapons, are in some of the other combat professions (smuggler,BH, & cammando)

or atleast in the marksman/brawler slots, so that others can have use of the new toys

i hope most of them are standered items too. the scematic can be gotten from a mission or something, but after that the normal materials and componits. (with a socket or too for a looted power up maybe)

Very nice looking weapons being added! Being a swordman on my main character, I'm hoping the RSF sword is two-handed...I like the looks of that! The Sith Sword is nice too, but the RSF really caught my eye.

Mesca Phost - Scylla - Rifleman/Ranger/Pilot
Crem Darkstrider - Wanderhome - Smuggler/TK/Brawler/Pilot
Mesca' Phost - Bria - Grand Master Entertainer
(Master Ent/Music/Dance/ID)

Cancelled 7/27/05 - I joined to play Star Wars, not Jedi-BH Wars. You've ignored/gutted/abused just about every other profession in the game, while spending most of your time working on Jedi and BH as they related to Jedi. You've basically killed the game for anyone who doesn't want the glowstick. Congratulations.

i wanna see commando stuff...

i was a about 6 of the combat professions... rifleman, commando and TKM were the best... as in a "feel" of star wars or that ur a soldier...

tkm-rifleman was wicked... commando lacks in a lot of places but has great potential.
