I have played this game since October...

I am a Novice Rifleman at 0100

I am a Novice Architect at 0100

I am a Novice Merchant at 0003

I am a Alliance Recruit at 1111

I am a Medic at 2202

I am a Scout at 3040

I am a Brawler at 2000

I have only 130k credits

The most amount I've ever had is 150k credits

I am in a guild

I have 51 badges, 30-35 of those are exploration

I play 5-12 hours a day, 7 days a week

However I haven't mastered any profession, I still have 1 badge till I'm glowy...

I would just like to know why this game has to be so time consuming and hard, why can't they change it so it's friendly to those looking for a challenge and those who want to play the easy way?

dood..u must be doing something wrong ...if you are playing 5-12 hours a day.....and still haven't gotten jedi..............i think my first advice is to use the guides and get some focus..on your daily activities........i play no where near the time you play...and i am almost half way there....

/stepping away from the Force Sensitive topic for a few to try and help

Yeah no kidding, but I must say that when I first started playing things went very slow for me. Things when alot eaiser when I had money I could spend on things.

I'd suggest thinking of ways to bring in money so you dont have to be worried about having to pay for stuff.

If you check your servers trade forum often you'll find that there are people looking for others to hunt hide/meat/bone etc... often if they are posting it to the trade forum they are paying a pretty good price for it.

Another option is to take a look at some of the crafting professions, butfrom my experience it does take a little bit of up-front money to get the supplies and such needed. Me personally I harvested resources at first, then Mr Holocron said 'Master Tailor' so I did the tailor thing, I had tons of fun with it, met lots of cool people then Ms Second Holocron said Droid Engineer, this was fun as well, I made my first million credits with these two professions.

Also, as someone else has said before, check the forums for the profession you are trying to master, there are usually alot of good posts in there of what weapons to use when, which branches to go up first to make the whole thing as painless a possible.

What server are you on BTW?

Why do people always want things to be given to them, is it a generation thing? Making Jedi available to all would not please the players for more then a few weeks, or months, after that they will get bored and move on. This is a MMORPG, you’re supposed to desire to keep playing it for a long period of time, years, not days. If you can explore all the content, and accomplish all the goals in weeks, or a few months, this becomes like any linier RGP; KOTR, ect.

Some immature person suggested I grow up, roflol. My friend, I’m well grown, with a family, a life, a career and degree in law. Yep, you guessed correctly, I’m not a teenager; in fact I’m pushing the big 40. I think you can assume I’m all grown up now.

As to the comments regarding required playtime, and selectability of game difficulty: This is an open ended MMORPG, and you can play however you choose; that is the selectability. Playtime is an arbitrary issue, as it does not change what you can do in the game; 100 hours of game play is still 100 hours of game play, regardless of what time frame it’s spread over. No one is barred from accomplishing anything they desire in this game. However, you can’t click a button and get instant gratification. This may come as a shock, but this virtual world mirrors the real one we live in, and it takes work to attain your goals. Without the work, what would the accomplishment be worth.

Someone asked me to take a poll, I will.
1. If perma-death was put back in would I quit? Um no, you didn’t do your homework. Had you reviewed my posts you would have seen that I opposed the removal of prema-death!
2. If BH was reworked to give BH the ability to take out JK would I quit. Well, BH have that ability now, and are doing this every day….I’m no JK, far from it, but here I am. Heck the sight of a LLC, or scatter pistol makes me go weak in the knees, and my heart race, kind of like a good rollercoaster………

As far as what the Devs intended, I don’t know, you would have to ask them. However, I can say that those of us who were following this game, pre-release, were told that Jedi would just happen when we did the correct things, and it would be entirely different for each person. That would have so rocked, and we believed things were that way right up until the silly holo thing began. To bad that concept died, I liked the original Jedi idea as much as I hated the holo grind. IMHO, I do not think Jedi was ever intended to be something you perused, but I don’t know. Assuredly, SWG was never intended to be all about Jedi.

I see all kinds of posts complaining about how hard it is to get Jedi, and I shake my head. It can easily be done in 6 months, starting at ground zero, IMHO that’s to easy. I’d say 6 months is based on about 20 hours of time playing a week, and it would be a year at 10 hours played, ect. I suggested long ago that a player should have to qualify as a 52-week veteran to even begin the quest, I still hold that view.

JediMasterZero, your initial post truly rubbed me wrong, and made m reply much sharper then is my wont, for that I apologize. You subsequent post reveals many good ideas, and a more detailed knowledge then I got for the first, and yes we do agree on several things, but disagree totally on Jedi. For me, Jedi is the ultimate end game. I was here before SWG released, and main has mastered over 20 professions, is an officer in the rebal alliance, was a leader of one of the first PA’s, and has upwards of 75 badges. I’ve worn out the basic game, JTM offers some temporary diversion, but I needed to take my game to a new level, and Jedi is that level. Unlike many of my contemporaries, I don’t give a darn about PvP, take no pleasure in defeating other players, and vent a shocking series of profanity every time I see 733t, or whatever the current version of leet is. I want to play the rare Jedi in hiding, trying to make move events, and topple the empire, while living in fear, and on the run. If Jedi become common my vision is destroyed. I believe my vision coincides with the game setting, and what Jedi are intended to be.

If I was out of line it’s because there appear to be a new crop of players who want the world delivered to them on a silver platter, on demand. The quest, the work, is what brings pleasure to the accomplishment. Yes, xp grinding is silly, but we’re stuck with it, and the current system is better then the holo grind. I still hold that getting Jedi has now been made to easy, but the CU may correct that, we shall see.

Gentleman, if Jedi daunts you, do something else in SWG. This game has endless possibilities, explore them.

It is to easy now, however that isn't what bugs me, no I don't want jedi handed to me in ANY way, i think everyone needs to do it all themselves....however the devs again, lied back to my previous point, it was supposed to be a quest based system or something of the sort, it isn't that way now. Do a 5-30min quest once every 3 weeks to unlock a branch that you must grind...jedi is grinding/fun fs should be a bit more of a challange than it is....not xp wise, but quest wise.

Actually, I think the devs knew that people would react *exactly* the way they have and that's why the xp requirements are so high. I believe the Devs would absolutely *love* for people to get Jedi just by playing the game and would have loved to create a system that allowed this. But, they knew they wouldn't be able to because people still want to get it as quickly as possible and will want to grind. No matter what the devs did, the majority of Jedi chases would seek out the shortest route possible, whether it meant posting guides and following them to the letter, changing their template so they could do it afk (entertaining), or the fastest (commando). They may not have known that these would be the exact Jedi chaser templates. However, I am sure they were fully aware that people would try to find some way to do it as quickly as possible. And, I believe that's exactly why they chose a gating and a grind system that would take a long time. If MMORPG players had shown by example in this game and others that they were willing to just enjoy the game and play it for rewards, I have no doubt that the system would be a lot easier. I'm sure the devs would have liked it to be that way.

No, they really did intended it to be done along the way. Originally on Test Center, the ratios were 10:1 Weapons and 1:1 Combat. That would have allowed people to get Jedi simply by playing the Game. Then the TC people went at it like crazy and the Devs saw how quickly people were progressing because they weren't just playing, but grinding. That's when they bumped the ratios to 30:1 and 3:1.

They really didn't forsee the grinding, and then when they saw it happening, their solution was to just bump the ratios so that now it would be impossible to get Jedi just by playing and not grinding.

I think we're saying the same thing here. Originally the ratios were easier because they wanted people to be able to play the game and achieve Jedi. But, when they realized that people were going to grind no matter what to achieve Jedi as quickly as possible, they had no choice but to make the ratios more difficult.

Maybe they didn't foresee this on test. But, the point I was trying to make was that if people didn't grind, the devs would have been content to make attaining Jedi easier. Basically, the players screwed themselves by continuing the tried and true pattern among gamers of grinding instead of just playing the game

Kovev, I'm glad you could go back and read what I was trying to get at. And, for the record mate, I'm not all that much younger than you.

I do *NOT* think that Jedi should be given to everyone - I agree with you that a lot of people are asking for handouts. I do think, however, that padawan should be selectable upon character creation. And I've got no problems with the Jedi grind...my problem is with the FS grind. Building up your Jedi character to a state where you can exist in relative safety should be extremely difficult, as I believe it is now. And on top of that, I think they should add even more limitations to actual Jedi characters! For instance, my suggestion of limiting their inventory and the maximum amount of credits they can have. Tell me that wouldn't add 10x more complexity to it...know what I'm saying here boss? (I'm sure that the Jedi player base is justwaiting to gank my sorry @ss)

I think the miscommunication is coming from your thinking that I'm calling for JEDI to be easier....which is, as I'm sure you've gathered, not at all what I'm looking for.

And I willfreely admit that this is my first MMORPG, so I don't know what a 'normal'end-game goal is. However, I still feel that making a certain profession as that end-game goal is inherently problematic. While I agree it will entice players to go for it, I think in the long run it will do more damage than good.

The ratio on test was deliberately below what its normal level would be to promote testing.

Can you honestly believe this? You think the Dev's had no clue about player grinding following the Hologrind fiasco they created? Their original goal was for it to take 3 months of hard gameplay to get Jedi, now they have that irregardless of the amount of grinding a player does, it will still take the minimum amount of intended time.

JediMasterZero, thanks for the follow-up post. I understand your position, but strongly disagree with what you propose. Also, please understand neither post exclusively was in response to what you have posted.

You mentioned a limited inventory for Jedi, and although you may not be aware of it, this is in place. A Jedi robe may not be equipped with any type of backpack, bandoleer, strap, pants, boots, cloak, jacket, or coat. You can wear jewelry, gloves, belt, and a hat, that’s all. Many Jedi do not wear their robes so they may wear bio clothing, and carry a pack; however this is not without a penality. A Padawan robe gives 250 force, and a nice bonus to force regen, the higher tier Robes are better. To put that in prospective, a Jedi starts with a 100-point force pool. To add to this limitation, gloves, belts, and jewelry may not be bioengineered, leaving the Jedi with only the head slot for bio clothing. I didn’t know if you were aware of this. Robes have no slots, no defense, and no armore rating.

I feel Jedi are more then restricted enough, although the money idea has some appeal.

And yet a Jedi is supposed to be attainable for evencasual gamers. I balk at that, and I balk at the devs.

They disgust me.

Your very upset veteran,

I have been playing since day 1 and dont have a jedi, but to be honest i dont care about that, I care that they FORCE you to become a Jedi for a second slot on a server... and i ask you... name me one other MMO that only allows one toon per server? And there is all this complaint about too many jedi... and yet they force you to become one to get a slot that still counts against the max 8 slots we can have over all servers.

Forcing me to grind again, is what will cause me to leave the game... oh BTW I have been here since Beta and am not remotely close to jedi or padawan. I just want my second slot!

I'm not the type of person that plays a game for years... I've never played 1 game for more than 5-6 months and I never will...

I have well over 200 video games for the console and computer that i've played since 1996. This is just 1 of the many I have played. I love this game, but I also loved the other games I've played for more than 2 months.

WWIIOL is the hardest game I've ever played in many ways. I quit playing it because it just wasn't fun and was tough to play.I play this game because I like Star Wars and it has the nicest people I've ever played with in my gaming career. This game is fun, but it'd be even more fun for me if it was a bit easier.

Like I've said, I play games to relax and forget the outside world, and I play games to escape the challenges of everyday life. I don't play games to face equally hard challenges...

I want to become a Jedi, but I just don't want to have to constantly grind and grind and grind for months just to get 1/3 or 1/4 of the way there. Whenever I play a game beyond 5 months, it just isn't fun anymore. And I don't want to have to play that long just to accomplish 1 of my goals... And I don't want to have to kill and kill to become a Jedi, that is 1 reason why I haven't played a First Person Shooter like COD, MOH, WWIIOL etc... for a while, I'm just tired of it, and it gets depressing when you kill for weeks on end.

Watch Episode 5...see how Luke is being trained?

Jedi Academy...we need for everyone to have a personal trainer thats going for Jedi, as you saw in the movie (or will see) Luke, hardly done with training, goes to save his friends while having a lightsaber and SOME force skills.

===============

this is exactly what the devs want us to do, but i will say one thing, before i pay another DIME towards this game, i will cancell my account and leave. why should i have to (due to not being a powergamer/unemployed waster) have to buy a pre-made up jedi

that according to the devs is illegal and against the rules and regulations of SOE?

Now, i know, cause i made a post asking people who where casual players, to find out how many really are out there.

There is a lot of players that WILL leave SWG in the near future when they realise how hard getting jedi will be, but thats AFTER the mindless grinding of Force Sensitive XP.

which in my opinion is pure bulls***. will i take this crap from SOE? yes and no. i will do other things in game before even attempting to gain 1 single XP point after unlocking my three force areas. but im sure by february 2005 when World of warcraft hits the UK shelves i probably decide then whether or not to keep going with SOE.

the devs want to limit jedi, fair enough, only unemployed wasters get the time and resources to achieve this goal, fair enough, im studying for my honours degree. other players work full time jobs, with kids, we do not have the time needed to achieve this goal

and alas this WILL kill SWG faster than me moaning here. The devs have never and will never post the "actual" number of players that have left over the last 4 months. but with lucasarts now taking the realms doesnt it give you warning bells?

--------------------

The very fact (okay i know there on holiday) but this was posted BEFORE they went on holiday. the very fact NO dev has ackowledged players ARE felling let down, totally dejected and heading for the cancel button faster than a taskmasters shot.

i have no problems with the grind, i just want it to be more exciting more intelligently thought out rather than coming up with some**** figure on a bog roll.

* Devs in toliet before jedi revamp. Comes up with brilliant idea whilst on the bog!

"i know, screams tiggs" Jumping of his seat, his pants wrapped around his leggs, he rushes in to the board room and proclaims.

"Lets screw the players up again boys!" all the devs look around, at the hairy legged tiggs.

"lets increase the Conversion rate so they have to kill 1,000,000,000 critters and takes the casual players 4 years to achieve!"

With this a heated discussion over cheese pizza develops and thus, the grind fest begins.

To win in PVP one must cheat, exploitz, hackz, and above all, have other pals that do the same. Once the foe is defeated, then go "OMGZZZ UZZZ SUCZ, LERN TO PLAY"

And so forth!
