Thread: OMG! CU MADE FS IMPOSSIBLE!

1) Damn right it was a rant, and it was a 100% accurate one.

2) Someone with 2 Masteries being able to solo practically nothing that gives more than 1 experience is not considered allowing for solo play.

3) This may be a multiplayer game, but it was advertised as not requiring groups. They advertised that solo players would be have access to everything that group players would have access to. I'm not saying that soloing should be 100% as effective as grouping, because that would be asinine, but I'd like to still be able to play and advance for Christ's sake. The developers themselves said that solo play would be required for the endgame. I can provide the quotes if you like... (see below). Since the CU I've soloed 3 creatures that gave experience, and they nearly killed me if I hadn't been buffed and kiting them while I waited for the insanely stupid 4 year long wait on using healing packs.

Quote:

"Basically, becoming a Jedi is meant to be a major achievement in the game. Without giving away too much, by achieving specific things in the game with one character, you can basically unlock a second, ‘Force Sensitive’ character slot on that same server. We're not revealing how this second character slot is achieved (although I'm sure players are going to figure it out, probably more quickly than we anticipate, and post the ‘secret’ online). Your Jedi character lives in a world of constant danger, and when a Jedi dies, he's permanently dead (your other characters will respawn at a cloning facility). Jedi are also targets for NPCs and potentially other players. This will make surviving as a Jedi long enough to advance to Jedi Knight or Jedi Master status very difficult."
Haden, IGN Interview

Now you'll probably say that permadeath was removed, and you're right. However, the game still has a penalty for Jedi that decide to show themselves in public... experience loss and bounties. Since people can't solo anything that give them more than 1 experience once they get to Padawan status because they are still considered CL80+ characters and don't have the skill to hit anything with their saber that is CL80, they are going to gain visibility. They are going to gain a LOT of visibility and they are going to die often since practically everyone has respecced to MBH. Given the root and insane power of a MBH against a newborn padawan, you can expect to lose more experience than you gain for grouping. From this beautiful piece of workmanship (thanks SOE) you effectively get a choice between no advancement or negative advancement. Do you want to be getting 0 experience or do you want to be getting negative experience? Those are your choices.

4) What build do you have, and do you actually fight things that give you experience or are you talking about running around killing gnorts outside Mos Eisley? And no, 1 experience doesn't count.

I'll answer these by number...

1) From your "certain point of view" perhaps...

2) Then perhaps you've maxed out your advancement since the character level caps at level 80.

3) Any player has access to everything in the game, that does not mean nor was it ever promised that they can be particularly successful soloing high-level MOBs. There's nothing stopping me from getting in the captain's chair of a 747 and taking the controls, that does not at all mean I'll be able to actually fly the thing.

Your quote regarding the Jedi was obviously pre-Publish 10, since it mentions unlocking "a second Force Sensitive character slot on the same server". We al know that since Publish 10 the new character slot is not Force Sensitive at creation, that the primary character is. Old, obselete information. Things have changed since then.

Why are you still level 80 as a Padawan? You still have all or at least most of your combat skills intact I take it. "You must unlearn what you have learned." Try dropping most of those skills and hence dropping your combat level to something where you'll actually get XP for killing stuff. If you insist on making the CHOICE to keep all those combat skills intact as you have, you have to live with the choice what goes along with it; not having an effective way to make xp at that level. So of course you'll gain visibility.

Nothing but you keeps you from dropping skills to lower your combat level to a more appropriate number to allow you to gain xp. Those that do will be able to make xp just fine without gaining significant visibility.

4) Actually I've been killing lot of level 19-20 Rebels this week and getting 4-5000 XP per kill (I'm level 22, 1/2/21 TK) thanks to quad xp, but even 1000 XP after this week is a lot better than what you are doing. So no I'm not killing gnorts outside Mos Eisley.

Only your own inflexibility causes you to get 1xp per kill, it's not SOE's fault, or the Devs, or anymore else.

My template: MBH/MM/Mpistoleer/Master Combat Prowess, level 80 combatant

What I can solo: Pikets, Huurtons, Rancors, and most other things that are my level on mission terminals. Only a fool would try some of these without a group. What I can safely solo Tortons, Borgle Bats all on Rori. Takes me 30 minutes per lair. Add a ranged level 67 player, time to do lair is cut in half. Go to 8 players lair is done inside of 5 minutes. The question is do you like wasting time? I don't, so I group to save time, equipment , food buffs and patience. I run out of patience with people who whine and fail to adapt to what the game is directing you toward. Now I didn't respec a thing. I am not aFOTM MBH. I know how to take down jedi. I know how to grind solo, and I really know how to grind as a tank in a group. I went into the CU with my eyes wide open and my mouth shut. My recommendation, learn what the food buffs offer you in increasing your speed and accuracy. Learn how to select the appropriate weapon based on speed and accuracy. This is no longer a sticks, swords, and fists game. Ranged fighting is where it should be. Dabblers are given the appropriate SP to dabble and die. Full combatants, level 80, have the appropriate SP to succeed or die. Are you feeling me?

I wasn't around during the profession grind, but I'd prefer the currentgrind over learning a bunch of profs I never wanted to learn in the first place. I'm a fighter first and a fighter second. No room for crafting. However, the FS grind pre-CU was stupid as well. Lock yourself in a dungeon and kill, kill, kill. Now with CU, it's brought FS grinders like myself out of the dungeons, allowed me to hang out with my guildies more often because we can hunt together and not take each other's xp.

I was extremely skeptic of the CU and still upset over some of the bugs, but I wouldn't trade all the tea in China for the CU now. For the first time since FS grinding, I've been able to keep getting closer to my goal of being a Jedi, and have fun doing it.

I hear ya on that one...

I started the grind pre Publish 10 and just finished it.

I VASTLY prefer grinding FS skills using my chosen professions rather than grinding with other professions I never wanted in the first place. Carbineer was three months of my life I'll never get back. For me and a lot of people, the village is a far superior system to the old grind even though it tends to be longer in many ways.

yeah well if you think FS is impossible wait till you have to grind as a padawan and stay off the terms to make a positive exp gain.... it is near impossible im 1 mil exp in the whole and ive stopped playing im awaiting a fix so that jedi can hunt in groups.

Let me try to explain this to the people who obviously don't get the point. This game was billed as not requiring groups for everything. It was advertised as allowing for solo play. Hell it was even required for Jedi before and after the update. For people like me, who got this game because we could actually get something accomplished within the 1-2 hours of free time we have, the CUhas KILLED the game. People who got this game so that they could play in a persistant Star Wars universe for a couple hours here and there are the ones who suffer because of this "upgrade." I went through hell grinding out professions back before the path was changed, and I was almost looking forward to sitting down and getting some real play time in during the summer, but I can't spend 2 hours sitting in a starport screaming for a group just to play in the group for 45 minutes before having to leave to do something in RL. I can't and I won't. That kind of bullsh$t is why I stopped playing EQ. I refuse to have my gameplay ruined because of an update that completely turns the game on it's head. I've put up with it for a long time, but I'm sick of getting the shaft everytime I get time to sit down to play. I go away for a few months and come back to find my character gone. I finally get all the branches unlocked through the asinine village phases and now I can't even grind out the experience for the boxes. Even if Iwere to completely disregard my life for the nextmonth and a half andget the experience for the boxes I'd have to contend with the fact that my only way of leveling once I become a padawan is by making myself an easy target for BHs. I mean what the hell, did the devs not even BOTHER to think about what they were doing before they did it? Did they just wake up one day and go "hey I think we'll fuq over all our casual gamers and all the padawans today."

How can you (and they)not see the problem here?

I know I'm speaking on deaf ears, but finding groups is not difficult. I have my entire guild, plus a half dozen other peoplein gameI can start /telling and I'm grouped in no time.

MaybeI'm just luckyor maybe it's your poor attitudeand once you group with someone one night, they don't want to group with you anymore. I knowI wouldn't want to group with someonewith your attitude. I'm sure you'll find something to flame me with this reply, but here's the simple truth, CU is here to stay and it's much better than the (required)doc buffs making us omnipotent to just about anything. Oh boy, that was loads of fun (/spinattack2, /spinattack2, blah, blah, blah).

For the past few days I've been weighing the pros and cons of the CU. I've considered a good deal of the criticism; I've looked at things from both sides and there was one single thing that swayed my decision in favor of not liking the CU. I'm currently in a guild where the majority of the members have already unlocked. When they're hunting, they're doing it just for the experience. It's not too often that they have time to help me with quests when they're too involved trying to not be killed by bh's and gain more exp at the same time. I think that being able to group is a great idea, but I also think that measures should somehow be taken in order for those of us with separate agendas to be able to actually get something done. Keep in mind, before you can actually advance as jedi, you have to be able to become one. And please, someone don't tell me I should join a new guild because that's just ridiculous. I've been a member of this guild for a good while, it's the first guild I've ever been in, and I should not have to leave my friends behind to actually be able to get something done.

After thispostI'm going to stop bothering to reply to this thread. Why? Because you've already made up your mind to be fanboys and nothing I say is going to change your mind. The truth is that SOE just changed the game into a totally different game. The game before allowed for people who play 1-2 hours every few days, the game now does not. I could spend 1-2 hours playing and make 100-200k FS experience before the CU. Now I'm lucky if I make 1k. There was someone who said before that it's not difficult finding groups. Obviously you aren't someone who is a casual gamer. I play MAYBE 8 hours a week including weekends. I've got 2 masteries and I'm finishing up getting FS experience so that I can become a Jedi, but now I don't even think it's worth it.

I've spent over a year on this farce and I've had to endure the path changing and the loss of a character and to be screwed once more by an "upgrade" that makes itimpossible for me to advance ata reasonable rate is pathetic. It took me 45 minutes to find a group today and I barely finished 1 mission with them before having to log. That 1 mission netted me a little over200k in weapon experience. That means that when double experience is done I'll be making a little over100k weapons experience which will convertto about 3350 FS experience. At that rate it will take me over a year to get the experience that is required to complete the branches I have unlocked, on top of the more than a yearI spent grinding professions on one character and getting my branches unlocked on the second. If you honestly believe this to be fair, then I pity you. You must spend way too much time playing something that is supposed to be a game, not a second job. If you can't see how asinine this change is, then I pity you even more.

As for the person who said that they never promised that you could do everything in the game... Maybe you should go back and read over the advertisements for the game. Most of the ones that came out over the last year and a half say something about being able to play as a loner (especially in the case of Jedi). That was actually part of the draw for me. The idea of permadeath (completely destroyed), the idea of being a powerful character who was always on the run (they got it half right, they're always on the run), and the idea of having to be careful about where you reveal yourself for fear of being hunted down by Darth Vader or Mara Jade (they ruined this when they replaced Vader and Jade by BHs named Ipwnjedi and Hialot Weedsmoker, and then totally did away with the possibility of playing solo). Even with all these promises they backed away from I still wanted to be a Jedi, if only to hear the saber hum. Now I'm about ready to just junk my account. They might get back some of my respect if they change the conversion rates so that they are more reasonable for a casual gamer.

I'm sure that once the glitter of the double experience week wears off I'll probably seeall of you peoplewhining about how impossible it is, but by then I will just sit back and laugh at you, because you will have been part of the reason it stayed in the first place. I'm sick and tired of having my gaming experience ruined so that the company can cater to the powergamer children who can spend 18 hours a day online.
