imagine having to grind out 32 professions.....
yes its messed up, yes it will get fixed..... but you guys seriously dont know what a grind is.
No sir, you have no idea. I completed 27 professions prior to them changing the path to this long ass series of quests (1 of those professions was BH back when the missions were so fubar it wasn't funny). I quit for a few months due to school and the fact that I was burnt out and came back to find my character gone, deleted or something. I contacted the CSRs and they sent me to tech support. Tech support sent me back to the CSRs and so it went for 2 weeks until I finally got someone to tell me that they can't restore characters that have been gone for more than 2 weeks. So after losing my first character that would have had 6 free unlocks, I started the whole thing again on my second account. I went through the village BS, unlocking branches when I had time between classes and intended to grind out the experience for those branches when summer break hit. Well thanks again SOE, you &*%#ed me again. It just figures that they would not only put the CU in at the beginning of summer, but push it out early so it came out a week before finals. Now that soloing is practically dead, I have to worry about finding people to group with in a game that was advertised as not needing groups. I bought this game to play a Jedi in a game that wasn't like all the other cookie cutter EQ style "grind for 900 hours with a full group or you can't do squat" MMO. Since SOE seems to want this game just to be EQ in space, I think I'll go to a game that's not like all the others. Guild Wars came out recently, maybe I'll check that out. I mean wow, a game that you don't have to pay a subscription to play AND it is based on skill and not 4 billion years of grinding experience.

sucks to be you, i left for 4 months and all my characters are in tact. sorry about ur loss, but it happens, blame it on SoE, i have. Join WoW, better game, better content
Sad thing is I had 7 characters on the account and the only one that was used for more than logging in to get the free holo on christmas was the one that got deleted. I played WoW, got bored after getting 2 characters to 60 and owning everyone in PvP. The 2 servers I played on had some of the lamest PvPers ever. I'm seriously surprised they even bothered trying. Ended up coming back here because I finally got all 6 branches unlocked and I figured I'd be able to finish the grind over the summer and try out Jedi. Seeing as SOE has seen fit to **% up my gameplay experience once again with a revamp that has effectively killed the game pre and post Jedi...
"OK, lets make grinding experience harder for the people becoming Jedi and give them the ability to instantly change their template to and from MBH. This way we can flood the galaxy with BHs and at the same time make it so that Jedi can't level without gaining visibility. That way we can make it so all the people who are our longest running loyal customers are the ones who are screwed over by a system that makes it nearly impossible to advance."
Seriously, what moron in R&D came up with this idea? Why am I never there to slap the people that truly deserve it.

No, they just nerfed solo grinding. I am grinding FASTER post CU without stupid grenades and boring repetition. Just take a group, go after CL 81 missions and get at least 1 shot per kill to claim your 9k-10k XP and 1k combat XP. It goes FASTER than the commando grenade trick and it's more fun.
Anyone claiming they cannot get FS XP post CU hasn't TRIED. Get a good group though, not a bunch of kids dueling each other.
I CANCELLED all my accounts, then had fun last night finally and now all four accounts are re-instated on same day.
If people cannot grind post CU after doing the group thing with DOUBLE XP (some quad XP) then there is something wrong with what you are doing.
I'll admit, good groups aren't easy to find, but there will be more as we train them.

Let me try to explain this to the people who obviously don't get the point. This game was billed as not requiring groups for everything. It was advertised as allowing for solo play. Hell it was even required for Jedi before and after the update. For people like me, who got this game because we could actually get something accomplished within the 1-2 hours of free time we have, the CUhas KILLED the game. People who got this game so that they could play in a persistant Star Wars universe for a couple hours here and there are the ones who suffer because of this "upgrade." I went through hell grinding out professions back before the path was changed, and I was almost looking forward to sitting down and getting some real play time in during the summer, but I can't spend 2 hours sitting in a starport screaming for a group just to play in the group for 45 minutes before having to leave to do something in RL. I can't and I won't. That kind of bullsh$t is why I stopped playing EQ. I refuse to have my gameplay ruined because of an update that completely turns the game on it's head. I've put up with it for a long time, but I'm sick of getting the shaft everytime I get time to sit down to play. I go away for a few months and come back to find my character gone. I finally get all the branches unlocked through the asinine village phases and now I can't even grind out the experience for the boxes. Even if Iwere to completely disregard my life for the nextmonth and a half andget the experience for the boxes I'd have to contend with the fact that my only way of leveling once I become a padawan is by making myself an easy target for BHs. I mean what the hell, did the devs not even BOTHER to think about what they were doing before they did it? Did they just wake up one day and go "hey I think we'll fuq over all our casual gamers and all the padawans today."
How can you (and they)not see the problem here?

I'm only going to bother with the yellow highlighted comments, and ignore the rest of this rant.
The game still alows for solo play post-CU, make no mistake.
It just doesn't necessarily allow for accessing higher-level content in the game without a group. This is a multiplayer game, there is no reason why anyone should think they can play the game solo without joining up with other players for at least some of the content in the game.
You can still play solo, just don't expect to be able to do everything in the game if you insist upon it.
And BTW before anyone says anything, I play solo probably about 90% of my time in game.

1) Damn right it was a rant, and it was a 100% accurate one.
2) Someone with 2 Masteries being able to solo practically nothing that gives more than 1 experience is not considered allowing for solo play.
3) This may be a multiplayer game, but it was advertised as not requiring groups. They advertised that solo players would be have access to everything that group players would have access to. I'm not saying that soloing should be 100% as effective as grouping, because that would be asinine, but I'd like to still be able to play and advance for Christ's sake. The developers themselves said that solo play would be required for the endgame. I can provide the quotes if you like... (see below). Since the CU I've soloed 3 creatures that gave experience, and they nearly killed me if I hadn't been buffed and kiting them while I waited for the insanely stupid 4 year long wait on using healing packs.
Quote:
"Basically, becoming a Jedi is meant to be a major achievement in the game. Without giving away too much, by achieving specific things in the game with one character, you can basically unlock a second, ‘Force Sensitive’ character slot on that same server. We're not revealing how this second character slot is achieved (although I'm sure players are going to figure it out, probably more quickly than we anticipate, and post the ‘secret’ online). Your Jedi character lives in a world of constant danger, and when a Jedi dies, he's permanently dead (your other characters will respawn at a cloning facility). Jedi are also targets for NPCs and potentially other players. This will make surviving as a Jedi long enough to advance to Jedi Knight or Jedi Master status very difficult."
Haden, IGN Interview
Now you'll probably say that permadeath was removed, and you're right. However, the game still has a penalty for Jedi that decide to show themselves in public... experience loss and bounties. Since people can't solo anything that give them more than 1 experience once they get to Padawan status because they are still considered CL80+ characters and don't have the skill to hit anything with their saber that is CL80, they are going to gain visibility. They are going to gain a LOT of visibility and they are going to die often since practically everyone has respecced to MBH. Given the root and insane power of a MBH against a newborn padawan, you can expect to lose more experience than you gain for grouping. From this beautiful piece of workmanship (thanks SOE) you effectively get a choice between no advancement or negative advancement. Do you want to be getting 0 experience or do you want to be getting negative experience? Those are your choices.
4) What build do you have, and do you actually fight things that give you experience or are you talking about running around killing gnorts outside Mos Eisley? And no, 1 experience doesn't count.
