Thread: If you hate the FS grind please read this message!!!!

Okay people, listen up.
First of all let me state that everything you're about to read is coming from a non powergamer. I am a very casual player, prefering to play SWG when I feel like it, and not every day because I feel I have some kind of deadline to meet. On top of that, I am very hardcore Role Player on the Starsider server. Now, what does this have to do with this topic you might ask? Well I'll tell you because I am one gamer that is no longer whining about this "grind."
I've been playing SWG since it was first released. Every day that I have played I have dreamed of playing a Jedi for the purpose of RPing one in game. I personally think it is the ultimate achievment for myself in SWG. However, once the system for attaining a Jeid was revealed, I was shocked and angry. I felt it was as if SOE had ripped the possibility of Jeid from me, because they had made it a fierce Mastery grind of a few known professions, and then a lottery so to speak on several more unkown professions. So, my hoopes for Jedi were dashed.
Then the new system was set in place, where a character had to become "glowy" and then journey to a village full of FS inhabitants that would help you become a Jedi using a quest based system. Low and behold that I quickly discovered that the new system meant an even harder, and longer grind than the first. Yet again, my hopes of Jedi were crushed and so I left the game.
For several months I wandered, never really feeling at home with other MMO's and then one day I picked up the SWG expansion and began playing once more. After moving quickly through 2 pilot professions I discovered I was quickly gorwing bored with the game and needing something new. It was then I decided to begin my quest for a Jedi.

I've said from day one that the only thing that ever mattered to me is to see the toon that I created forever agoholding a saber. It'll be the biggest reward SWG could possibly give me. It's worth it to me to grind out all the FS xp for that one second I see my zabrak kickin it with a saber. Not some other random toon owned by some random person but by my toon who I've put the time and effort into hold that very saber. As a matter of fact I dont even care if I advance in the jedi skill tree's. I JUST WANT A SABER!.
Question..... can I be so negative in jedi xp that they take my jedi away? If not then im golden

I've done the FS grind had no Free unlocks.
It was tough and boring and I didn't use grenades.
You may be able to keep your Jedi XP and not have to go and convert.
What you will have to adjust to is you definitely won't be getting much xp per kill.
Your Damage, speed, and Accuracy with your saber is really poor with little help like a normal profession with superior crafted weapons and powerups.
You have no armor to protect u so even lower end mobs in groups can be lethal.
The biggest hurdle after the FS grind is reaching a 4th level box in the saber of your choosing.
That hurdle is 3,020,000 XP away.
At less then 1k xp per critter it can really try your patience especially if you die and have to clone.

I justed wanted to apologize to the other members here for the multiple posts above. I assure you all that I did not press back, or attempt to press the submit button more than once. I'm not sure what caused the multiple post, but I wanted to say it wasn't done on purpose. If this post should do the same I'm sorry

I'll try and figure out why it's happening if so. Again, for anyone that thinks the grind to Jedi is too hard I have only this to say: It can be done. I know it isn't easy, but don't think about the grind. Think about the prestiege in being a Jedi and knowing you overcame the difficulty of getting one. If nothing else, you'll have a second character slot to work with, and that alone is a big reward! You can do it people, just keep at it, and stay positive! May the force be with you

Origionally I was a Master Entertainer, Master Dancer, Master Musician. Prior to leaving SWG, I dropped Master Entertainer and Master Musician to Master the Swordsman profession so that I could go after the Jedi slot.
Since coming back I have recently dropped Dancer and now am raising my skills to become a 4-0-0-0 Commando so that I can quickly grind out the FS XP I need for my branches. Now this is where the justification for my piost comes in.
I do not want this grind, but it's what I have to do to get Jedi, and I -will- get Jedi. You people that just think about the mountain of XP you have to climb aren't thinking about the view from its summit. I have given up my much loved Entertainer professions and the RPing the brought to seek a new story by following the path of a Jedi. If I can do it, then anyone can. This isn't about piowergamers or RPers, or a huge grind for that matter. It's about sacrificing to attain that which only few have the strength and will to achieve. It can be done, and if I as a casual player can go through all of this frustration to wear a smile as I grind away, then maybe you people that are complaining want a Jedi for the wrong reason.
This grind isn't about grinding...its about being a Jedi and that is a hard life. The road to it should match the path it follows.

I guess my problem with it and my frustration with most online games is to a lot of folks "hard = tons of play time" why not make "hard = REALLY hard quests" I heard people crying during the phase 3 quest how hard it was ect I loved that quest it was something to group with a friend and DO not just mindless hours of boring grenade throwing. Why not make more quests like that where you feel some sense of accomplishment after each one that would eventually lead to jedi instead of just catering to people with no other responsiblitities and those who can afford ebay jedi... Yes you can do it as a casual gamer but you know what if I spend the next month of SWG doing nothing but grenade grinding its BORING. if I dont do that I can kiss Jedi goodbye..
So yes I wish devs would get a clue that Hard doesnt mean killing the same monster over and over and over and over a.. you get the idea. Imagine if Yoda had told luke .. all you have to do to be a jedi is kill 900000 of those snakes over there and you will magically get your powers woohoo!!!

My biggest complaint about the 'grind' is the repetative motion. All the clicking I have to do for Crafting XP grinding. I think it's wrong that the game is forcing me to get carpel tunnel, just to get to Jedi. I have a third party clicker, even if they say we shouldn't use them.

....., in my guild i have a noob that whants to become Jedi, he did not even mastered any profession yet, he always wants help to grind TK coz he does not like to solo .....and He thinks getting to Jedi will be that easy as to just go get some POI .... then he glow, the he starts the FS grind, and then i know for shure he is gonna post a message here whining about the FS and The Jedi grind that is to long or to hard or whatever ... hey bad new THIS IS PRETTY EASY COMPARE TO JEDI GRIND...
Sorry just fustrated of reading about these PPL whining about this grind... just wanna say you going to be Jedi ... A JEDI .... its SUPPOSED TO BE LONG AND HARD, its more than an Elite prof ...

I really dont like grinding, never have. but ever since i was 3 years old, i've wanted to be a jedi.. this game seems to be as close as i'll get. i own god knows how many toy lightsabers, have attempted crafting my own saber, hell i even want to take kendo to learn how to swordfight.. the point is that yes, this grind is a pain in the tush, but the whole point is to get what i want. I WANT TO BE A WOOKIEE JEDI!, or Jeedai as i like to call it.. damn KOTOR2 got to my brain. i like games where you are instantly a jeedai, but this is so much more satisfying.. i am actually working to BECOME a jeedai. i dont get it on a silver platter. that makes me happy. STOP COMPLAINING! if you dont like hte grind, and dont want to do it... STOP PAYING FIFTEEN DOLLARS A MONTH AND GO WATCH TV. PLAY DOOM, WHATEVER. JUST STOP WHINING!
