This timeline doesn't lend itself to Jedi. The obvious solution is either move the timeline to one that does (forward or backward, though I would prefer forward to after the formation of the new Jedi Academy as this would open up a TON of storyline ideas...the academy is located on Yavin so no new planets need to be introduced) or nerf the Jedi into oblivion since there are no Jedi around to train these force-wielders (a term I've taken to calling them).

Also, I don't believe the Force Sensitive people stopped showing up so much as they just stopped recognizing that they were Force Sensitive. Too, there was a tremendous discouragement to acknowledge yourself to anyone as Force Sensitive. A visit from the 7 foot Black Armored dude tends to do that. I don't mind there being Force users in this time span. I just wish there was severe punishment for using it in public. (i.e. Vader shows up every now and then and pummels you into a Force-Sensitive pudding). It's ludicrous to assume that a Jedi can just appear where there were none before with no training from previously trained Jedi. The system from the movies took years...even in the original trilogy, Luke took almost 7 years to become a Jedi. The original Jedi took half their lives (if they were human) to become masters. Having these Force-wielders show up in Cnet flaunting their lightsabers ruins the whole experience as far as this timeline goes.

P.S. love the sig line.

/nod I agree. I've had sleep now

heh. grindin hard will make you come up with sigs like that =P

Good points. I have been a strong supporter of EU and enjoyed reading it. Lucas has been quite busy with RotS and I also heard he is working with the team for Indiana Jones IV (Don't know if that is true, haven't seen any info on it other than it is slated for a 2006 release, and Harrison Ford is on the cast) Ok, I may be crazy, and...I'm running on two hours of sleep in the past thirty hours, gotta love college YAY!!! stupid homework :robotmad but if authors are not supposed to violate the continuity of the original films, yet they make mention of several Jedi that were still alive during the time of the movies and the books are still approved...didn't they just directly violate the continuity of the movies? Just a thought. I finally forced myself to realize that the EU was just fanfiction (hardcore fanfiction, approved fanfiction, but still fanfiction) Also we have to remember, this is SWG lol. It has violated connections to both the movies and the EU, so maybe Lucas will take a closer look at it and either have things balanced out or moved up in the time line.
Above all else...this is still JUST a GAME. While I strongly support the game (and currenlty am grinding towards Jedi...gotta beat that CU lol) I have other things to do, and as mentioned earlier it s a game set in the Star Wars Universe so that people can play it, have fun, and live/play a role in the Star Wars Universe. Anyways, thats just my two cents that don't mean much heh. But on the opposite side of my post, mention in novels, official stuff, etc, was made that after the Purge of the Jedi that people considered FORCE SENSITIVE kind of stopped appearing, like the force had just somewhat vanished or something, just another thought, that's all I can pull out of my tiny brain now. And one final thought...SOE/SWG team are making money off of this game...it's called a Corporation/Business, they work to improve the game, granted most of them enjoy doing it, they are still getting paid to do it. The longer they can keep more people playing the more they are making etc.

I hate the whole concept of "Midiclorians" and the force not existing outside this Galaxy.

Stupid in My oppinion. And (apparrent) the Massive logic errors in the whole Vong plot is frightening.

(though i have not read the books, I assume the Jedi can't use the force on the ding-DONGs)

The Vong exist outside of the Force. It's not unprecedented in the EU. There are little beasties from the planet Myrkyr (their name escapes me atm) that project a Force blocking bubble. I also despise the idea of midichlorians. But the idea of the Force existing only in that galaxy doesn't bother me. In fact, it makes it that much more interesting as to why it only exists there. I don't know what you mean by Massive logic errors in the Vong plot. It's a very well told story and holds up at every turn to the mythos of the saga. Pick 'em up. Read a few. They're much darker than most of the others. But they're very good reads. Plus there's no mention of midichlorians.

Seems like the interview strongly supports what we already knew, which is all things StarWars need to fit in with the continuity of the films butIt also supports the idea that there should be absolutly no Jedi alive at this time other then Luke, Yoda, Vader and Darth Sidious.

This is something I've been wondering about because I usually support the theorythat it'spossable for a few rare Jedi to be alive during this time period, but, if George says no Jedi... then it's got to be no Jedi for everything... If they start making exceptions for this game then the whole continuity is ruined.

Jason_Solo brings up a good point, George Lucas must be very busy with the new film comming. I wonder just how much he knows about this game and what's going on with Jedi. Does he realize how often you see Jedi running around with thier sabers out and Jedi Knight titles above their heads? Or do the devs just send him a generic statement that says "Jedi are very rare in the game". I wonder if George realizes just how much of the player base is either already Jedi or activly grinding towards it.

The bigest mistake was picking a time period where Jedi shouldn't exist and then including Jedi in the game.

I cannot recall which program it was, but in something I was watching on TV there was a commentary about how Lucas had suspended all of his "usual supervision" over SW continuity and merchandise while he was completing the movie. Given that post-production ran until a few months ago, he may simply be on a vacation for awhile.

However, some dialogue I was priviledged to listen to from some members of the industry indicated that some notice has already been taken of the condition of this game, and that actions are in the offing. Whether this turns out to be true or not is beyond me at the moment, as I think I am suffering from SW:G overload, but if it is true then SOE is looking at a hellstorm when George lays the smack down.

I have to say, I hope it is true.

Seriously, if you were looking for continuity and strict adherence to the books and/or movies, you chose the wrong game. This game was created to give people the ability to play a role in the Star Wars universe, and in order to allow people to choose what role they want to play there must be some sacrifice in the continuity. Oh and by the way, when was the last time you saw someone take more than 1 shot to the head from a blaster or a sniper rifle and live?

Good post, I think you're right that this is partially George's fault to begin with. I still wonder how much he knows about the game right now. As for thesection I quoedabove, I disagree. I don't believe continuity needs to be sacrificed, it's just a matter of the Devs taking the lazy way out, and chooseing the wrong time periodin hopesog makeing the most money. Like I said before, you can't make exceptions for this game or anything else and expect continuity to stay intact. It's either StarWars timeline or it's not. If you have more then one version of history, neither one becomes credable.

I wonder if another company showed up and made a MMORPG based on Knights of The Old Republic how many people would leave this game to go play that one, simply because the opportunity to RolePlay a Jedi would be better.

The problem is that in many of the EU books there are Jedi other than Luke, Yoda, Vader, and Darth Sidious alive during this period. Mara Jade, countless force sensitives that come out of hiding in NJO when Luke reopens the Jedi Academy, and a few other names of full blown Jedi that I can't remember at the moment. The truth is, the literature approved by Lucas and his company state very clearly that Vader was in the act of wiping out the Jedi, but that some still survived. If Vader had been efficient enough to kill every Jedi in existance at this time, Luke never would have made it to puberty, and Yoda would have been a green stain on the side of an ugly rotted tree.

The difference is that these people are all Force Sensative, not full blown Jedi. They don't have lightsabers, they don't have specific Jedi robes and they don't have titles like Jedi Knight floating above their heads. Vader may not have been able to find a teenage kid on the outer rim who happened to have a little force ability, but he'd Damn surefind some guy calling himself a Jedi Knight who uses a lightsaber to kill Stormtroopers in the middle of theed. This is what I see everyday and it doesn't just bend continuity a little, it breaks it in half.

Another point of note here is that the Jedi are one tradition of Force users, and Vader didn't hunt the Force-sensitives. Mara did, and while she was bloody good, she was no Vader.

The continuity of the movies says nothing about what was going on with the various clans of the Force witches, light and dark, the Sith descendents who remain active in some remote part of the galaxy, the descendents of the Sorcerers of Tund, or even the random occurrences of Force-sensitives being born every day. In a galaxy with a population measured in the septillions (real number, though the spelling might be wrong), there would be literally thousands of FS being born every day, everywhere.

It is how that ability is discovered, shaped, trained that makes the difference.

The Jedi Order, Knights of the Republic, were ended by the actions of Palpatine and Vader, and with the death of Yoda, it is true. But the tradition was kept alive in Luke, and it was into this fertile soil of burgeoning Force-sensitives that he would later sew the seeds of the new Order.

I care. This is a MMORPG based on a time period where there isn't supposed to be Jedi!!!! It is a game. But it's a game set in a specific TIME period! I take it "too seriously like this?" Go choke on a goat. I do a ton of stuff outside of this game. I don't play this game for 14 hours a day...unless there's snow on the ground and it's 40 below zero. This game isn't my life. But I expect a little quality from people making a game based on my favorite franchise. I don't expect everything to be perfect. I expect them to allow for a few things. But major events like Jedi running through the center of Coronet or Theed with their lightsabers blazing in a time period where they are supposed to be all but extinct with zero consequences twists my panties just a bit, yeah. The Devs are lazy in the way they build this game. They see an issue where people don't have enough content, so do they invent some more content for the existing jobs? NOooooo....that would be toooooo harrrrd. They just make it easier to get Jedi but make it last so damn long that people will keep playing for months in order to unlock Jedi all the while their salivating over getting their precious little lightsaber....not having any more time to complain about the lack of content.

I never intended this as an in your face type of thread. I was informing people that this game wasn't part of the EU and providing a little proof of the reasons. You're the dink that decided to chime in with your .02 like I gave a poop. People have been debating whether or some of the events should be included in this game for some time because they break with continuity. Just because YOU don't care about continuity doesn't mean there aren't people out there that do. And just because YOU think that caring about continuity means that we don't have lives doesn't give you the right to be an ASS about it either.

LMAO! You go, boy!

A couple of points, just while I am thinking of them, that I heard or read somewhere(perhaps someone can confirm or deny them for me):

1) The midichlorians were not the source of the Force, but rather present as a result of the Force, forming an organic interface with the Force

2) The Force is the unifying field under the fabric of the universe, and thus exists everywhere, whether it is known or not

3) There were Force-dead individuals in the continuity that I recall, like the critter, but they don't project they are invisible to the force

Not sure how accurate these tidbits of yummy goodness are, but take them for what they are worth.

Perhaps we will get an answer once Revenge Of The Sith appears in theatres. Maybe there will be few other Jedi that Vader misses. If not then let the discussion abound about why there are so many Jedi running around. A galaxy is a place of immense proportions and there are a lot of places for people to hide if they really want to.

Even IF Vader missed a few Jedi here and there, that doesn't explain the plethora of Jedi running through the center of Cnet or Theed or any other populated area with their sabers out and no punishment for that behavior meted out by the Empire.

You actually believe George is just now taking a look at this game? LOL. I am sure he has looked at it since it started 2 years ago,he knows about the jedi and I highly doubt it really matters to him.

As a matter of fact, the poster is wrong. The movies, their scripts, and their novelizations are classified as canon, which is undisputable SW fact, or gospel according to the Insider. Other novels, comics, cartoons, and games are all classified as EU. And as this is a game, it is also under the classification of EU. Whether or not it SHOULD be is debatable, but whether or not is IS is not. So, just to once again make the point, the title of this thread is an incorrect statement.

Yeah, if I recall correctly it was about a couple of BEs gettin caught up in the GCW. If they wanted to accurately depict swg they shoulda added in stuff like

"As the time waiting for the next flight out to Dantooine seemed to fly by, the local Jedi could be seen blurring back and forth with their sparkling feet"

Most memorable SWG quotes:
"You lookin fer summat?"
"Get on board the falcon kid. This place is gonna blow." (How can you forget something you've heard over 100 times in a row?)
