Thread: It really sucks to be a casual gamer....

Well first off I have to say I agree....the grind is just painfully awful for force sensitive and then to padawan. I think attaining the basic force sensitive level should be relatively easy and then once you are a jedi, things get stepped up. And how about some jedi quests for goodness sakes. How about something like they do in City of Heroes where you get a waypoint for a factory/cave or whatnot, that feels like you are on your own mission...with fun twists and turns here and there...and you can take anyone in your group there...or you can solo it. That part of that game for me was awesome because it felt like my character was accomplishing something. It felt personal. Killing billions of huurtons and baznitchs to just get padawan is so incredibly stupid. Don't get me wrong, I am doing it. I am using thermal detonators....and doing my best to keep up a good pace, but it is painful. if there was somethign that I wished SOE would do...it would be to add CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT.

Another rant I had with the whole system...was why not have different classes of force users so everyone isnt labeled jedi. And make gettingtheremoderately difficult, but once you have the class it would be VERY difficult. Here are someexamples from SWRPG:Force Adept, Force Witch, Emperors Hand, Spirit Adept, Urban Adept, Zeison Sha, Matukai, Baran Do, Spirit Master, Dark Side Marauder, Dark Side Devotee, etc....etc. The list goes on. Maybe with more variety to the force, there would not be so much of a surplus of jedi. I mean think how powerful an Emperor's Hand would be as a hunter of Jedi? Look at Mara Jade. The possibilities are endless. I love star wars...and I have been with this game since beta....I just see so much possibilities being cast by the wayside.

Yeah, it's attainable. They never said you would get it in a few weeks.

Here is the problem, it is a game, everyone pays for the game, everyone has the right to play whatever is offered within the game. Except in the world of SOE where you have to play for 6 months as a casual gamer to obtain something that is offered within the game. Other games dont have this problem because all professions are available for anyone, no matter how long or how often you have played or can play. Power gamers have an advantage in those games because they can master their professions quicker than the casual gamer, not because they can obtain the "right" to play that character quicker. Playing a Jedi should be tough and the road should be hard. Playing a Padawan should be hard, and it should take you a long time to make Knight. However it should not take a long time to become a Padawan. Luke didnt go see Obi-wan and Obi-wan said well your strong in the force, but you haven't killed enough Huurtons go kill come back and see me in 6 months.

Before you flame me, saying I want it easy, I don't. I think in fact that being a Jedi should be so incredibly tough that that in itself will force people to quit playing Jedi. The time period in which the game is set should limit Jedi. You should be hunted by NPC bounty hunters, you should have elite forces of NPC Imperial guards coming for you, NPC Dark Jedi sent by the Empire to hunt you down. Vader himself should hunt you. If your a dark Jedi, Luke should come and try and stop you. It should be tough. I am not saying 'give' anyone anything. I am sure that during the time of the movies there were plenty of other force sensitive people that did not become Jedi because the Jedi were hunted. Make it the same. Just don't make it so that you have to give SOE 6 months worth of payments so you have the "right" to play something that you are paying for.

I agree 100%. Someone said if you dont have patience then jedi isnt for you.....but you gotta think outside the gaming box. Who wants to waste 4 months of your time for something your just getting started in...... It seems to me SOE just wants money and made it take so long so that they can keep people. Someone said this i think, but it's obvious SOE did this to keep the population from dying entirely. Im a huge starwars fan, jedi isn't my main priority and i was thinking about doing it because im bored with everything else. Many of my friends left, hardly anyone role plays, and the profession i really wanna be is really broken(Pistoleer). Grinding out that much just to get to go for the padawan trials is in my book, not worth it.

I totally agree with you slipp. i am a big star wars fan myself yet it is disappointing to see this instance where such a great potential is ruined by tedious and borring grinding. this game is meant to be fun. games are meant to entertain and be fun. for me,a fun game is one with variety and constant diversity of situations and experiences. grinding is the complete opposite of a fun game. i still find other aspects in the game fun but the jedi grind is down right borring and pathetic considering it is a huge marketing tactic for SOE to keep the money coming in while gamers are too blind to realized they are not having fun.

Exactly! Grinding is like working, and why don't these people realize you gotta work to get this proffession? It's no longer fun. I already work a full time job, and i really don't wanna start working 2 full timejobs.

so what is the way to ensure we casual gamers get the same treatment as the powergame players. well two methods have been mentioned.

XP BONUS

This can be done by SOE, they have all the stats for every single player in game. They know when we login for how long and what date. so why cant they say. (Player A: Say powergamer) is online 6 days a week for an average of 8 hours a day. for 48 hours a week.

Days = 6 * 8 = 48hours wk, 48 * 4 = 1152 hours a month...

every 3 hours (buff session) max gain 900k, now watch this...

XP Gain(384 * 900 = 3,456,000 XP gain EVERY month)

5

So lets look at (Player B: Casual gamer) is online 2 days a week for 3 hours a day, 6 hours a week. 2 buff sessions. maximum XP gain 900k IF lucky.

Every month player gets. XP Gain... (6 hours * 4 = 24 hours) now multiply this by.. 900,000 = (24 * 900) = 216,000 XP

Okay the above scenario isnt totally correct, but it shows the sheer difference in the amount of XP gain a powergamer has over a player lucky enough to get over 3 days play a month.

QUEST BASED MISSIONS

The devs can change the system to incorporate these quests. come on, no player here can argue about us the paying public wanting something this game lacks in pure and simple.

CONTENT. im not asking for the whole system to change, or to be made easier. just to make it more appealing to all players out there.

Say there is >>5<< different paths to jedi available.
===========
Lightside Defender (Defends the galaxies NPC population from Imperial Avengers.... (player V's Player)
Lightside Guardian (Goes around the galaxy killing all imperial forces, evil jedi NPC and players)
Netural Jedi (loves the peace and quiet, and is in hiding, continues with existing grind)
Darkside Avenger (Anakin Skywalker)
Darkside Protector (Similar to defender, healing, protecting NPC from imperial forces)

Each one of these can have its own mini series of quests. they can also be player V's Player based as well.

And yes, players have their Lightsabers. Makes it more fun, to see 2 Force sensitive players battling each other... (idea only)

Example.

an imperial Force sensitive player wants to let out his anger, hes been consumed by the dark side and lead on the vicious path of the Darkside Avenger.

His quests can be total destruction of NPC characters. his quests can be designed around subjecting the denziens of the galaxy to suffer. this can be done easily. hundreds of quests can be made (which GIVE out force XP) for them, (similar to Lightside guardian) here they go around killing camps of tuskens, ewoks, jawas, wookies and so forth.

This brings the collecting of XP more enjoyable to that style of player. ie, kills everything wants everything there and then...

These can be implemented by the devs into the game, us the players can change this, modifiy it, and improve our beloved game SWG. it is us that makes this game what it is. if all the players, diss each idea that might improve this game beyond the stigma of what SOE has produced then its doomed to failure.

To win in PVP one must cheat, exploitz, hackz, and above all, have other pals that do the same. Once the foe is defeated, then go "OMGZZZ UZZZ SUCZ, LERN TO PLAY"

And so forth!

My two cents:

I'm not complaining about the system to get to padawan however...

If you think about it, not that it would make much difference I guess, everyone goes and grinds all day long 24/7 (majority of the players on some servers) That means, less PvP, less RPG...well that wasnt really every big in this "mmorpg" anyways. "hey guys, want to go hunting?" "Sorry i'm busy grinding, I won't be able to do anything for the next few months if I want to finish this grind before I die" "bah, see ya." Sorry"

Ok, maybe a bit exaderated but it's true, I want content. Devs said a quest grind, well, that's not really a quest is it? Maybe it's just me but doing a 1hr quest every 3 weeks to just unlock branches you need to grind...well thats not really quest based..its grind based. Before you start the same old shi* to each one of the posts about how hard the jedi grind is, people know that! Some want it to just say they got Jedi, some want it for fun when they log on after hours of work, and if you start the same shi* about working for it, I hate to say it but, most of us have lives, and going to work and coming home and spending your whole damn night staring at a screen does NOT mean you have a life, it means you are forced to go to work because you need money to CONTINUE to play this game, maybe supportinga family as well, but dont even start that stupid shi* about being a working person and unlocking like you say you do because if you go to work and come home and sit on your probably overweight-obese ass and play this damn game every time you have a spare moment you DONT have a life, I can't stress this enough. I've wasted enough of my life on this post, hate to end it.

Uh, is this towards me? Like i said, im a casual gamer that loves starwars.... not a person who needs this game, just trying to have a good time in a game that has not much to offer. Since its the only MMORPG for starwars(that i know) is the only reason i really play it.

I agree that a quest based way should be better. I am suggesting it not to be slowbut controled by game masters. Say the old man was not an NPC but a GM. If you meshed it up roleplaying-wise you would lose the chance to be a jedi! Delete the toon and make a new one to get another visit someday by a GM if you want to unlock.

That way people would play the game and be happy and maybe they wouldn't want to become a jedi when their beloved character would get his visit.

slipp. i dont think hitorikibattousai is venting towards you. i think he has a good point and a point i have been trying to make since the jedi craze started back over a year ago with the addition of holocrons. people have lives. they cant (rather shouldnt) play SWG or for that matter any video/computer game all the time and make it their life goal. SWG is a good game to pass the time and have some fun. it is NOT a way of life. jedi is not a way of life. star wars is not a way of life. it is an interest and hobby just life any other fantasy or role playing game. I am a big SW fan myself but i apply my skills and goals towards real life things.

quest based is good, but this is a bit too long, jedi is supposed to be hard but thats jedi, not getting jedi.
besides the current system isnt quest BASED, you do a short 5 minute quest then GRIND GRIND GRIND. people grind enough in jedi why should they have to grind useless FS skills too.

I totally agree with the second quoted post.
