And to junior whats-his-nuts who said he sees "these kinds of posts every time the phases change" - Sonnyboy, I've seen more than you can possibly fathom in this game, and you have no right to pass judgement on this post and my experiences in SWG till you been in game for AT LEAST one year. Chew on that for a bit before you even dare think about philosophizing your own conclusions.

Wow there was no reason to get all personal about it.

1. You don't know anything about me.

2. If you have seen it all, why are you b*tching about Jedi being so hard/time consuming?

I was only stating what I have observed.Does it take someone playing a AT LEAST one year to observe that when the village changes and people start talking about unlocking that other people start complaining about how 'hard' it is to become a Jedi and how they would make getting to Jedi eaiser? I don't think so. Someone that has never played the game can observe that. I admit that I haven't been playing the game for a full year, I started playing in February of this year, so I'm two months short of playing for AT LEAST a year. I'm not going to get into a p*ss*ng contest of what I have or haven't seen. I was just stating my opinion as you have stated yours. Clearly I struck a nerve

I understand what you're saying about the grind and how it might be more fun if it was quest based. But, you have to realize that in order to make a quest based system that would take as long as the grinding does in order to keep everyone from being a Jedi in two weeks, that would be an *awful* lot of quests and time on the part of the devs. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be preferable, just that with everything else they have on their plates we would have had to wait a very long time for the revamp, which would in turn have delayed everything else in the game. And, everyone who is not interested in Jedi would have been even more pissed off then they were when they heard the combat upgrade, GCW, and profession revamps were being delayed, as well as any new content that the entire player base can enjoy rather than the select few Jedi chasers.

The other thing to consider is that if it *was* quest based, then everyone would know how to do them. There would be guides all over the boards about every single phase of the quest, which would make the path go even quicker because most people would read all the spoilers beforehand. The only way to counteract that is to make the quests so difficult that you'd have to do them over and over again, or make sure you had a large group to help you at every step of the way. And, this, of course, would piss off the people who want to play the game solo. There's already a huge number of people that complain that you can't do all the JTL things by yourself or the exit Padawan quest by yourself.

My point is, the old cliche, you can't please everybody. What would work well for you might not work well for me, and vice versa. I think the devs did a pretty good job with the new Jedi system. I hated the holocron system and I'm so glad they scrapped it. This is 100% better and allows those of us, such as myself, who actually want to play a character able to reach Jedi. I refused to do the holocrons because I didn't want to ruin my character. Now I can do practically anything I want to do while slowly working my way up. And, yes, I'm a casual gamer as well. I became glowy within a week of the new system, and since then...5 months, I have only filled 3 boxes. At this rate, I expect to become Jedi in ...oh...2007...heh. But, hey, I'm enjoying the game and playing it the way I want to play, and I still have a goal to eventually get to, and I'm grateful that I actually get the chance to do this now. There's a nice combination of quests and grinding, and it's a good mix taking into consideration everything else the devs have to work on in this game and the time and resource constraints. I don't get burnt out because I don't grind, I just play and I know it'll eventually happen for me. I'm one of those long termers who are going to be here for awhile, even after I reach the highest pinnacles of Jedihood because I won't get burnt out, and by that time there will be even more things to do to occupy myself. I never get bored in this game, there's always something for me to do, distractions, and when there's not, I work on my force sensitivity. I think a lot of people rush through everything and get to the top and then they're bored and complain about lack of content. I've never had a lack of content in this game.I always have too much to do. The system works very well for me. And, I think it's a good thing that it's difficult and a turn off to people who don't want to put in that kind of work. And, who knows...maybe I will get fed up with it too and stop the pursuit. But, considering the way I play, I don't think that will happen. Because, as I said, I am just playing how I normally would play, enjoying the game, and filling up a boxevery month or so when I cap out.

ya sobetan is right imp detonators are a great way to go. I am doing that currently and it does go really fast. I have the money to do it onlyI find it god awful boring. in fact even the fastest way and any way of grinding is SO borring. i sit there for for 10 min on the first giant baz nitch lair throwing dets and im already ready to quit in boredom. and even if i did ever get jedi i would probably be sorely disappointed at the fact i have to grind MULTIPLE times longer than the fs grindr to get anywere half decent. so i ill just keep in the back of my mind the ideal that jedi is cool and almighty but for my own sake not ever get there so i wont get disappointed.

The problem is finding away to slow down the powergamer and make it achieveable by the casual gamer. This is an imposssible task. My advice to the casual gamer is to get commando as soon as possible before they nerf it. I have triple my xp using thermals. Yes it is boring but what grind isnt and I will grind in one third the time it was taking me with just rifles. I have one box left after looking at 3 and 1/2 trees to go only 3 weeks ago.

I've been done with the village quests for well over a month now. I had 2 free unlocks. Being a casual gamer, I can only "grind" so much FSxp per week. Since the beginning of the Village, I've only mastered 1 other tree and am working on my 3rd box in yet another tree, still leaving me with 8 boxes left to fill. This sucks to an extent that I can't even possibly convey to everyone. I think I'm the only person who's been playing since Day 1 that doesn't have his Jedi yet.... And yet a Jedi is supposed to be attainable for evencasual gamers. I balk at that, and I balk at the devs.

They disgust me.

Your very upset veteran,

Ok, this is where you are wrong. If you want Jedi, you're gonna hafta work. If Jedi was attainable by casual gamers everyone would be walking around with a lightsaber. That's not what this game is about.

And trust me, I know what it's like. I had zero unlocks and I had to grind every single experience point on my own. It blows, I know. But the harder you work, the better it feels.

I agree 100%. Someone said if you dont have patience then jedi isnt for you.....but you gotta think outside the gaming box. Who wants to waste 4 months of your time for something your just getting started in...... It seems to me SOE just wants money and made it take so long so that they can keep people. Someone said this i think, but it's obvious SOE did this to keep the population from dying entirely. Im a huge starwars fan, jedi isn't my main priority and i was thinking about doing it because im bored with everything else. Many of my friends left, hardly anyone role plays, and the profession i really wanna be is really broken(Pistoleer). Grinding out that much just to get to go for the padawan trials is in my book, not worth it.

If you wanted a jedi in the first place, since day one of this game being launched, why didn't you become a jedi under the old system? You had over a year to do so with the holocrons.

I totally agree with you slipp. i am a big star wars fan myself yet it is disappointing to see this instance where such a great potential is ruined by tedious and borring grinding. this game is meant to be fun. games are meant to entertain and be fun. for me,a fun game is one with variety and constant diversity of situations and experiences. grinding is the complete opposite of a fun game. i still find other aspects in the game fun but the jedi grind is down right borring and pathetic considering it is a huge marketing tactic for SOE to keep the money coming in while gamers are too blind to realized they are not having fun.

Jedi should be hard. I don't want everyone running around the world with lightsabers. It should also be quest based, more than it currently is. And those quests should be done by soloists. Jedi do not hunt in packs at this time.

But does Jedi really have to be our only end-game option? Give players other options for things to do once they spend their 250 skill points and you will see alot of people:

1) Stop complaining about how hard Jedi is

2) Start having more fun

Yeah, I would love to be a jedi, but I don't want to grind. What I really want to be is an Imperial Inquisitor (maybe an Emperor's Hand...) or a Royal Guardsman. How's that for an "elite" profession?

I heard there are offline xp gain in WoW. They call it "Well rested char" or something. I am not playing it so i can't confirm it. They said they made it to accomodate the casual gamer bytemporary doubling xp gain evenafter longofflinetime by put the char in "Well rested" status.

So, may be dev can implement similiar xp to help casual gamers a bit in the next publish. So, we can keep up with the hardcore gamers xp gain but may be not as fast as they do.
