appenrently tossing gernades all day is a much better route to becomming a jedi then mastering profs
I'd much rather of checked out diffrent profs then combat grind. I refuse to go commando so grinding takes 3 times longer.

The fact is, the name may have changed but the process is harder. It is a shame that SOE has turned this game into a "grinding nightmare". I figure that if a person pays $15.00 a month, they should get to do what they want. I don't understand why you would dangle the ability to be a Jedi in front of peoples faces, then decide to make it almost impossible to achieve because "we don't want to many Jedi." If you were worried about that, then you should not have put it into the game. I still feel that they should a least cut the grind in half and lets get into some serious PVP with Jedi versus Sith and Rebels versus Imperial. No wonder there is no PVP because everyone is beating their heads against the brick "grinding" wall. Remember, this is not the movies. We do not have to follow what the movies did. Lets all start are own story. Lets put the "Wars" back in "Star Wars".

The unlock system originally was a mysterious system of unknown events, you would “allegedly” unlock when you met a set criteria, which would be different for each person……that was Beta, and pre-release, per Sony. We all believed in this, and chased this dream, until we were told, months latter, that it was broke and could not be fixed. This sounded ideal, perfect, to bad it did not work (if it ever existed).
Next came holo mania. Problems, yea, many. Holo’s were near to impossible to get for players who were not part of big PA’s, or wealthy enough to have the best gear. This was worsened by kill stealing, camping, and every sort of repulsive behavior known to man.
Now, Sony had to do something, so they gave holo’s way as gifts! An interesting solution, that caused much resentment, and all kinds of chaos. The end effect was everyone was now grinding to jedi, the game stopped, the grind was the game. Grinding resources were sky high, peeps were in professions they hated, and the game lost all depth and detail, beloved avatars were utterly destroyed for no reason at all. Every profession was ruined; players left the game in droves. To make it worse, the cred dupers and exploiters had huge advantages, and luck was the gatekeeper of Jedi! Nothing sucked more then grinding nearly every elite profession in the game, and not unlocking, just to see some guy unlock doing a half a dozen starting professions! The holo grind was not fun, it was not fair, and it was not good for the game. I left SWG as the holo grind was winding down, I was sick of it, and what it had did to SWG.
The current system is fair, as fair as anything can be. It’s balanced between professions, excluding none. It’s quantified, we know the method, and mechanism, no one can cry “foul”, they know exactly what they are getting into. We now get rewards as we go, and the quests are fun! Yes, Virginia, the grind is still here, but it’s the same from everyone. The grind should be here, without it everyone would be a Jedi!
I love the FS system, but think the skills granted a re a bit under par. Hey, it’s cool that those not seeking Jedi can be FS, and enhance their tunes. Money. And uber PA’s still tilt the scale, as a player coming back from a nearly one year break, broke, and in a time where almost all his friends have moved on, this is hard, darn hard, but I will survive.
What would I change, if I could? 1. The unlock quests are to easy, but the CU may correct this. 2. To “glow with the force” can be done in a few days, it’s silly easy; it needs added to, more badges, and an elite profession mastery should be required. 3. Nurf all recursive macro use, it hacks me off that peeps are AFK grinding their way to jedi. Hey, I could do this, but it’s just wrong, so I will not.
The jedi path should be long, hard, fun, and rewarding. Like in life, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Go back to holo grinding? In a word, NO!

You are not serious...
This is not IRC or Play by Post. SOE does not just offer an on line world. Everyone keeps screaming about the lack of content and you are only expecting an on line environment where you can walk aroundthat looks like the trilogy??
SOE should aid such efforts by participating in the game actively. In UO there was an invasion at Trinsic where a major NPC was controlled by an employee of Originand was leading the battle. In another time there was a major lich that attacked another city also controlled by a human.
Combat is only one way to use this idea. Imagine the posibilities...
Imagine Vader participating in the unlocking system in such a manner...

Nifty idea. Scary... kinda creepy, but nifty.
Vader would finish his grinding in a couple weeks, then be shocked to learn he has to sit on his ass and wait 4 months to spend it haha.

the new system is fine, and much better than the previous one. The main reason is that we as the player get to chose our OWN fate. and as well, that fate is quantified. There are many players like me that only like one aspect of the game. Some are pure crafters, some are pure warriors. FYI, i never followed the jedi path in the first time around, b/c i never hunted holos, and my first one was during last year's christmas presents.Lo and behold, my first holo told me to be an armorsmith. i didn't even bother, and thus ended my quest for jedi. Now that the new system is out, I can do what I like to do on a daily basis, which is hunt for loot, and from time to time go to the village and convert it to FS xp.... since the launch, I have unlocked 5 branches ( no freebies), and have filled up 7 boxes, and I still love the game.... if i get jedi , so be it, if i don't, I'm happy hunting loot, and selling it my guildies for their house decorations....... who knows some day, i might go crafter... and guess what? I can even use those xp to convert! how can anyone say this new system stinks???
That was exactly my thoughts too. I like playing on a day to day basis. I won't do the math to find out how long it will take for me to reach Jedi, I'd rather not know. I have a friend that is grinding combat xp on 3 weapon types on a daily basis and doesn't have time for her friends and guild events like we used to participate in. I think she's gonna burn out like so many others have. I used to feel the pressure of capping that experience so I can get to the village, but the game was a chore and no longer fun.
Now I hunt and I fly, gonna get a Jedi. Not today so goodbye, but I'll be back tomorrow.

The holo system messed the game up, causing not only aspiring Jedi to quit, but many other players as well. The current system, has a much nicer feel, and is causing much less chaos. Yes, it allows anyone to become Jedi, just like the old system did……yes it did, but the path is known now. Even better, people can play progression, and that plan will keep them coming back. This is win/win for Sony.
Ok, for various reasons a segment of players, Devs, and Sony/Lucas officials do not think there should be countless Jedi in the game (I will not get into way, or what I think on this point). It’s been said that if you play long enough you can become a Jedi, and this is true. The question was, and a question Sony had to answer, how to we control the numbers?
The answer: lets review Jedi related changes, in a broad way.
1. The path to Jedi is still daunting; many will turn aside, and never go the distance.
2. BH Jedi hunting is alive and well, the bounties are no longer broke.
3. BH requirements have been lowered to a shameful extent, and the ability to get Jedi missions cone low and easy, allowing powerful hybrid hunters.
4. Look at group combat dynamics regarding Jedi hunting, strongly structured against the Jedi.
5. Jedi can no longer wear armor, and robes suck, Jedi are easy to kill.
6. Jedi combat ability, and saber power has been reduced in an extreme way.
7. XP loss upon death, for a Jedi is horrific, making advancement a real challenge.
8. Jedi advancement to Knight gives a perma TEF.
9. Jedi advancement past Knight is so difficult it’s insane, and Jedi have to PvP each other!
10. Jedi must kill to maintain rank, and by that I mean kill each other.
The answer is, the organic system will discourage Jedi advancement, discourage obtaining a Jedi, and cause peeps to play the free alt, more and more. End effect, the players keep playing; lots of Jedi may exist, but are not played. Add to that, when Jedi are played it’s out of sight! I’d say there is one heck of a control system in place, and it has a minimum negative impact, drawing and keeping more players in game then it causes to leave.
This is just my view, but I think I’m pretty near the mark.
