Thread: How exactly is the new system healthier??

this is not even true. its even less that u can unlock. i tried to unlock persuasion in phase 1 and the friendly girl tells me that i have to grind master medic to heal ppl. i was asking myself what i am doing with ppl's mind/willpower/focus wounds...seems like healing to me and i was master musician. no chance to get persuasion unlocked. but the thing i do see is docs dancing in cantina now. doing the kill/rez trick or buffing during the day and picking up dancer0040 for afk grinding during night
Whoever thinks that grinding in a game is fun, needs to be shot. It might keep those people playing who think that accomplishing something in a game by doing the same crap over and over is meaningful. Making people grind in a game is just a poor substitute for lack of imagination and desire on the devs side to make a game more engaging and fun.
I'd much rather of checked out diffrent profs then combat grind. I refuse to go commando so grinding takes 3 times longer.
SWG caters to grinders and nothing more.
-Quote from the WoW Boards says it best-
SWG has unnecessary complexity, balanced out by excruciatingly boring repetitiveness.
The sum total of the game experience is zero, with the bugs actually being the only
game content.
And AFK Macro'ing dance/music/crafting classes was any better? Or grnding the combat classes. At least with this system you know how far you are in the process.
What people don't like is that the current process forces everyone to put in the equivalent effort needed to master 32 professions in the grind, whereas in the old system you had a chance to get off easy because of blind luck.
I got 3 from mastering 12 professions. I was holo grinding andI started a new character and did all ofmy holocron professions first.I musthave stumbled upon one or two hidden ones after that. Of course you only get credit for REQUIRED profession done BEFORE the new system was implemented. It's not how many you did but how many REQUIRED ones you did. Someone posted a statiscal analysis giving the odds of getting x unlocks for doing y professions. It showed the distribution and gave you a way to guage how lucky or unluck you were. The magic number for getting all six unlocks was about 27 professions. 90% of those who mastered 27 professions unlocked all the branches.
Here it the link. It's pretty interesting reading.

No, you are not the only one.

Previously, the path to Jedi was a hidden mechanic where you had to master X amount of random professions. Although our intentions were pure, this turned out to be unhealthy for the game in general, and not as much fun as we would have liked. Now, the path to Jedi has several different stages, full of danger, excitement, and adventure.
If I take this the right way it means that the devs realised thatforcing the players togrind endlesslyhoping to hit the rightthe professions was a very cruel choice and poor desicion to unlock their jedi. However I fail to see how the new Jedi unlocking system is more appealing and friendly. I have just started on it and even though I got 3 free unlocks I realised that if I max my combat and weapon xp every day it will take me 21 days to train asingle branch. And I have to do this 3 times so I may later start to grind the jedi part. That means that I must play 3 hours every day for 63 days to complete the force sensitive part.
Am I the only one who sees the contradiction here?

- At a convertion ratio of 10/1 the horrible memory of AFK dancing/playing music fordaysin the cantina to get master seems childlike.
but just to stay within the star wars story arc, are there such things as pure jedi entertainers? if you are lucky enough to follow this path, i think it would be required that you learn some form of combat. I think that is fair.

The new system is boring as hell. If you want to minimize time spent grinding, you have to do the same tasks (toss nades, etc.) over and over. If you keep playing like you always do, you won't unlock Jedi for a few years. Now, do you think people that get bored of the grind just give it up and go back to playing their regular char, or do you think they say "screw this crap, I'm gonna find a more fun game", and quit and leave? I'd say the latter, since Star Wars = Jedi for most people, and if you can't be a Jedi, then what's the point. Life's enough of a grind to be grinding in my spare time.
