Taken from the Sticky at the top:

To get a free unlock, you must talk to Paemos, who offers any free unlocks you might have. He will unlock the branch of your choice, and allocate enough xp to master that branch. Training is provided by Noldan.

Remember: Unlock ONE free branch at a time, train it, then return for another free branch.

I belive you had to have finished your holo professions and gotten a silent holo for free unlocks.. I could be wrong however.

I belive ya have to be silent as well. I was silent and got 3 free trees. Where my guildmates were not silent and got none.

You did not have to be silent to get a free unlock. You had to have completed 3 of your holo's for 1 free unlock, silent would get you 2 free,five, six, and seven I believe got you one more per. I'm still trying to locate the original dev post and I'll make a Clicky for it when I find it if I do.

Hope this helps

That would explain why I got 3 free unlocks..I went in this order: Medic,Doc,CM,MHS,Silent,Marksmen,Commando,Smuggler,TKM,Chef,Merchant.

Almost forgot... Keeping in mind that the devs changed the holo cycle somewhere in the middle and went from 5 to 8 (hence the 5,4,3,2,1 remaining).

Evidentally you needed 8 specified profs to unlock FS, and if you mastered those 8 u got 6 free unlocks, and etc.

Completing professions in the pre-publish10 world. There were 8 profs you needed to get Jedi, you could find 4 of them from holocrons and the other 4 are silent. Depending how many of those you completed determined how many free unlocks you got (and post pub10 profs don't count, the system has changed now)

8 professions -> 6 unlocks

7professions ->5 unlocks

6professions ->4 unlocks

5professions ->3 unlocks

4professions ->2 unlocks

3professions ->1 unlock
