Thread: Solution to Casual Player grind
You are always better to log in every day and play, but if you don't you'll be able to 'catch up' at a reasonable pace.
My sort of gut instinct is that anything a grinder can do 40 hours (so say a week) a casual player should be able to do in 20, but they have to spread that 20 over 2 weeks.

In WoW, every 8hrs you are in a "Inn", you get 1hr double xp. This wouldnt really be a bad idea, but knowing SOE they wouldnt let there be a cap to the amount of time allowed for the xp increase.

Im pretty sure World of Warcraft either HAS This implemented, or HAD it implemented...I read it a while ago. Basically what happeened is if you log in below a certain amount of hours per week, your rewarded with DOUBLE the xp... To me this is the most ridiculous thing ever. People who dedicate more time to this game per week, SHOULD be rewarded with more...well not more, but they should get the xp that they get. Someone who pays less shouldnt get more xp just becasue they dont have the time...Thats stupid. Maybe you shoudlnt force grind if you dont have that much time.
Imo, jcecil had a couple of very good points. Also...
I am a casual player too. I haven't started the fs grind, due to lack of time. Why? Because I have a girlfriend, I spend a lot of time with my friends and at the university. I have a good life, and the education will probably result in a well-paid job. Now, what else could I wish? A jedi. Yes, I must have a jedi! Otherwise I cannot be happy! (ironic)
My point is that THIS GAME IS FUN WITHOUT HAVING A JEDI. And some people who spend 10 hrs a day in this game would probably like to trade their life for yours (the topic starter). While you have the crosscountry stuff giving you loads of fun, why can't you, at least, let the people who have swg as their most important and time-taking thing in life, have their jedi? While you stay with your (probably very good) non-jedi char(s).
If you can not, I think you want toown a cookie, and still eat it.
Put your time in the things you think are important to you, and you will be rewarded for it. Be it a family, or be it swg. You have the choice (and it sounds to melike you've made the right one), so you are lucky. Some don't. In my opinion, we casual gamers have to face that we cannot have everything, but be glad for what we have outside the game.
"x: so you are doing the FS grind?
y: yeh, just waiting a week for my xp % to go up, then I'm gunna kill bols for a few hours
x: same here, so... wanna craft?
y: no, I crafted yesterday, too soon, my XP % is still low.
x: ah, alright
y: /yawn
x has logged out
y has logged out"
Bankler, thank you for your very good points by the way. I'm a power grinder because college has ended and all my mates (like myself) are stuck inside revising, so I can't see them. I don't really have a choice which I do

LOL, great Idea! Why dont we apply this system to REAL life too! People who work for the same company as you, doing the same job(and who'stime working there and performance are identical)should makethe SAMEmoney for working LESS hours than you, if they have other things in their life, like kids, that require additional time. That sounds real fair, doesnt it? This idea is completely illogical. Its like saying if two guys(with exact equal body mass and exact equal potential for growth) are working out in the gym, and the ONLY difference between the two is one has more responsibilities in life which means he cant work out as much as the other, the guy who works out LESS should get just as big and strong as the guy who works out all the time(and keep in mind, they would have both had the exact same potential for growth, as this is but an example)
I could think of tons of real life examples which show just how ridiculous such a senario is. Think of it like this "You reap what you sow". If you investX-amount of timeinto something, you are rewarded accordingly. Just because someone else cant invest as much time into it doesnt mean there a bad person, but their reward will also reflect the less amount of time put into it compared to someone else who puts more.
And if a system like this is implemented, it would just mean people play the game less in general, which is bad for business. Power grinders wouldnt power grind if they knew they could get the same amount of xp for less play time like the people who cant play as much and get the bonus. Think of the chaos if such a ridiculous idea existed in real life. Your basicaly advocating communism. Nobody will have any motivation to work hard anymore, if they know they'll be rewarded the same as someone who works less. Theoretical equality is good, but it promotes laziness in real life application.
Person A) is a student on summer break, who has virtualy no responsibilities and can play galaxies all day.
Person B) is a student on summber break, who has a job, and can play galaxies when he's off work.
Person C) is married and has a job. they get to play galaxies when not spending time with their wife, and when not working.
Person D) is married and has a kid, and a job. they get to play galaxies when not spending time with their wife, kid, and not working
Now, according to the OP's ridiculous theory, person D should get just as much xp as person A. What will that mean? If persons A-C all know person D will get as much xp as them, they'll all only play as much as person D, as they wont get any reward for playing more. As I already said, what a system like this will do is decrease total gameplay by all players accross the board to match the amount of gameplay as someone who can hardly play at all, because even if they play more, they wont get anything more from it, so they'll do other things than play the game, which SOE doesnt want.
