Hawke.....Deep Bow
That was awesome bro, brought me back to 77 when I was 5.
Star Wars to me has been more then a movie, its been a good friend. I remember after seeing it being changed, yes at 5 I was changed. Playing Star Wars with my friends, watching it at least twice a day on my dads kick ass Laser Disc player!
When I was 18ish and life wasn't so good I would sit down and read one the newly released Star Wars books and a smile would sooner or later come to me.
Let me digress a bit.
My dad went to school with George Lucas back in the day. I didn't believe my dad, but he showed me his year book and George's picture was on the same page as my dads. My dad said it was funny looking back on it, because George was this geek that sat by himself during lunch time and wrote his space stories.
When Empire Strikes Back came out we waited in line for about 4 hours. As we were about to enter the theatre the people who saw the movie before us were piling out....someone approached our line and said...."You won't believe it, Vader is Lukes father", I remember my mother and several other movie goers having to refrain my father as he was hell bent on beating this guy senseless.
My family is now spread out over thecountry as happens when people get older and move away and so on. This year for the final movie the entire family is flying out to my mothers. We're getting our lawn chairs, bringing plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, and we're going to wait in line to see EP3.
So while I'm sure George never thought his "stupid space stories" would touch so many people like they did, I truly thank him for what he has given me and many others.

Thank you Den. Yeah old Lucas has done an amazing amount of things to improve the qualities of movies. THX was his I believe. Industrial Light and Magic has been a part of almost every major blockbuster since it was started. And the amount of people both behind the scenes, behind the camera and in front of it that have gone on to impact so many aspects of film and entertainment that it really boggles the mind. And to think, all this started with a film that he never thought would amount to much lol!

That sure brought back memories for me as well! Like you I remember the day we went to see Star wars for the first time. I was young but the day was anything but uneventfull. The theatre we went to was in luguna beach CA and had just been built with the latest and greatest sound system... Surround Sound! I think Goerge had a lot to do with this new technology in the theatres.
We had no idea what we were in for, but we heard it was the best movie ever. The theatre was packed, the lights finnaly went down and the opening storyline faded into space and then .... Wow! Lasers and ships, Stormtroopers and Darth Vader, the movies would never be the same again! I will never forget that day.

Thank you as well Ozz. ROFL I saw the Laser Disks and thought..Hmmm. So I went rumaging today and found ANH on LD! Have no idea where the player is but that disk now sits on my display bookcase with all the other keepsakes I have relating to SW! This bookcase is of course right next to the other bookcase with every piece of literature that I have been able to get my hands on.
I love the part about your pop wanting to beat that Spoiler of the Goodies senseless! I too remember similar scenes happening when we were in line! Classic!

While I would love for this to happen, I don't think it would feel "right". I also would like to see the Zahn episodes brought to life somehow but again, it wouldn't feel "right? We need closure. We were brought into the original story in the middle and saw it through to the end. That left us needing that closure in regards to how it all started. We are getting very close to that closure. Unlike the Bond films which are all episodic and not really connected, EP I - VI are one big story. It would be like breaking up "A Tale of Two Cities" into 6 different books and then coming back and trying to write more for it after the last one was published. You just don't want to mess with a classic. The adventure of SW will continue I am sure for a very very long time in print, comics, games and whatever other mediums come along. Perhaps even till many of us are no longer around (at least thats my ardent hope). But the movies are and should be done after EP III. When asked the question himself, Lucas didn't hesitate, ponder or even mull over the possibility of more movies. No, there will be no more SW movies. For me that is fine because I can continue to watch the ones he gave us over and over and over and over again.
Although I have heard rumors of a SW tv show coming to the small screen

ep3 totally seems to top ep1 and ep2... IMO, it's gonna be SW on steroids !

it's called clone wars and takes place between EP2 and EP3. good show, too short though. wanna see more.

Great posts guys!
I myself was 10, back in good ole 77, and in the town we lived in you could go in to the theatre alone and not get kidnapped.
It was a huge deal for me, my mom trusted me to go into this movie by myself while she finished some business at the mall next door. I wanted to see this movie so bad, they had shown a couple a short clips on the local news station at lunch and I was dying to get in to see it, and my mom caved and let me. My only restriction was, in, movie, out front to mom's car. easy enough I say and go it all proud to be doing something solo.....
MY mind gets imeediatly fried, the millenium falcon....becomes an icon for hot rodding that I still adhere to to this day (I have a 72 nova hot rod that has evolved for years), Han's rougish charm and inner core of good-guy-ness become something I aspire to....funny really but true.
After watching the movie and even drinking in the credits.....the CREDITS!!!...I get up and wander to the front of the theatre.
Back then movies were CHEAP, 2 or 3 bucks as I recall. I had a couple dollars and after noticing my mom isn't out front yet (man where were cell phones when you needed em) I buy a second ticket and roll back in and watch it again! Of course mom was out front when I come strolling out this time, and she was the most un-natural shade of red I had even seen! I had such a high fron that movie that I barely noticed the MAJOR gorunding and various ass chewings that occured over the next week.
I have long since learned why mom freaked, but honestly.....it was worth it.
I sincerely hope that EPIII turns full circle and really gives back to the fans, George kinda botched it with I & II trying to outdo himself, and leaving behind the people that really helped breath the life into Star Wars that it has, that being the fans.
Does anyone besides me remember how long Star Wars played at the theatres? OVER A YEAR, then they recanned it as EP IV and played it antoher year and a half!!! I can honestly say that I probably saw that movie 25 times alone in the summer of 77....wow I get a warm fuzzy jsut thinking about it.

do a little research folks. there won't be more movies, but Lucas and Speilberg (sp?) are probably putting together a TV series that takes place AFTER "RotJedi". Mark Hamil has signed on to play the older Luke Skywalker as the Jedi Master in charge of the new Jedi Academy.
I'm pretty sure this will be the next level for SW expecially since Speilberg has done Band of Brothers and Dark Angel for tv and seems to know jis way around the genre.

I've read this as well (IGN Filmforce?) a while ago and last time I checked Mark Hamill was only going to make cameo appearances for his character (probably sick of the whole Luke Skywalker thing, but hey, it's his only claim to fame, so why not milk it?). I really, really, really hope that when this tv series comes out, it will be like a Band of Brothers in that it's not some watered down normal 1 hr drama/action cable show and something more of the HBO variety. One of the reasons I think Ep3 is going to be so good, is that it is the only one that will have a PG-13 rating (as opposed to the other 5 that had PG ratings) due to violence and disturbing images. We all know that THIS star wars will redeem what the previous two lacked. It truely will be a sad day for the film industry when this baby gets put to rest.
